Beliefnet, Inc., the largest spirituality and faith website and online community, today announced the winners of its first annual Beliefnet Spiritual Film Awards. Beliefnet recognized the films and filmmakers whose work is of the highest quality, while also being imbued with significant spiritual and inspirational themes.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe ran away with The Best Spiritual Film of the year and March of the Penguins stole Best Documentary. The experts lauded Steven Spielberg with the Lifetime Achievement Award while the Beliefnet.com community awarded that honor to Mel Gibson.
Beliefnet’s panelists and community members spent the past few weeks debating the nominees and casting their votes. In the end, the experts and the community picked the same winners for two of the three categories. For each category, two winners were named: The Judges’ Award, named by vote of the expert panelists, and The People’s Award, named by vote of the Beliefnet community.
