Walden Media Exec Chip Flaherty visits Franciscan University

Chip Flaherty, executive vice president of Walden Media, visited Franciscan University a couple of weeks ago to speak on the power of story and the impact on a person. A friend of mine went and spoke to him very briefly. We also received a comment from a reader, saying the following. They did write that the third film was said to have filmed in New Zealand. That’s only true of some exterior shots, however as most of the film was shot in Australia.

Here’s the link for the article on Franciscan University’s school paper website:

Here’s some notes that my friend took on the Narnia section:

-Lewis said we have to tell kids stories of bravery because if you don’t when they do face adversity they will feel powerless.
-If the 3rd Narnia movie does well, people will probably start looking at all of CS Lewis’s works (The Space Trilogy, etc.).

-On the power of a story:
The evil power of King Miraz
-bans certain stories
No Pevensie’s, no Aslan, no Golden Age
-no hope or inspiration; without these stories of hope, there is no faith
The stories that are told shape a country, a culture, a people
-defeating a dragon

-The 3rd movie was filmed in New Zealand because 1) subsidies (save $); 2) Peter Jackson filmed LOTR there (there’s a talented crew already over there)

-Fox is distributing Narnia which is a big revenue and they’re fired up about it.

(In about 2 months or so, I’m told that the video/audio of the event should be up on the school website.)

Sorry if those don’t make a lot of sense… I’m basically typing what my friend wrote for notes.
