Carrie Underwood is featured Artist for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

According to her official website: Carrie co-wrote & performed a song that will be featured on the end credits of the December 10th movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. In working with the movie company, Fox, we will be releasing the single as an iTunes exclusive on 11/16/10.

Fox’s objective is to promote the movie, but there’s also an opportunity for Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for the song/Carrie. We are also working to build some of their social media marketing into our Carrie web presence. According to David Hodges, the song is called A Place For Us.

We’re excited to finally know a bit more about the soundtrack for the film! Pre-Order the Soundtrack Today! And here’s where you can find Carrie Underwood on iTunes. Keep an eye out for her song on November 16!

  1. Same thing here, MountainFireFlower. We had Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap for the first two. Very indie, artsy, and bold artists. Now….Carrie Underwood? Personally, I’m disgusted. Marketing 100%. It’s all about the money. It couldn’t be much worse if they had picked Taylor Swift.

    • Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap were also marketing… just before LWW, Imogen Heap had a hit song for the film Garden State when she was known as Frou Frou. Regina Spektor’s song Samson was very popular prior to Prince Caspian. But remember, LWW also had Alanis Morissette, and PC had Switchfoot. I see this as no different.

      • True. I forgot about Switchfoot. Personally, I hadn’t heard of Imogen Heap or Regina Spektor before the Narnia movies came out. I’ve definitely heard about Carrie Underwood, so it feels somewhat different.

        • I think Carrie will be great. She can do songs very well that are not country, and country is obviously her founding genre. I can’t wait to hear it!

      • I had also forgotten about Switchfoot. But, honestly, I still haven’t listened to “This is Home” all the way through. I can’t get through it, it’s so boring. Switchfoot’s style just doesn’t mesh with Narnia, and neither does Underwood’s. Yes, Imogen and Regina were marketing, but they were also stylistic choices. Underwood (much like the rest of VDT), is /pure/ marketing.

        • This is Home isn’t a very long song… you should give it a listen all the way through once. Granted, it’s not my favorite Narnia related song, and Switchfoot isn’t my favorite band either. As for the concept of pure marketing.. it is all marketing. There’s never a time when marketing isn’t happening in some way. When you get dressed in the morning, you are marketing. Even if you wear label free clothing, you are still telling the world something about yourself. If you go to a job interview, you’re marketing yourself. Having Carrie Underwood on the soundtrack is definitely marketing, and no one is going to argue that point. Especially because the release date helps them out for Academy Award qualification, that is also a way to directly market the song. It would then be performed before millions. What is wrong with that? (I get rather passionate about marketing, as it is part of my job.)

          • I’m not saying marketing is bad. Marketing is essential, and without it nobody would get anywhere. But if you make a decision based /only/ on marketing and not on talent, art, creativity, or style, the decision could be the wrong one. Business people need to understand the artist, and the artist needs to understand the business person. If either one takes complete control, the project will not succeed.

          • Consider that the only things we really have so far are (1) The name of the artist, (2) the name of the song and possibly (3) a different artist performing a song with very Narnian lyrics in Sweden. Add to that the fact that she co-wrote the song. I’ve had to give Alanis Morissette the benefit of the doubt, among many others. Some artists that I’ve loved have written great songs for the films, and some didn’t. Some artists that I wasn’t a fan of have written some great songs as well, and I never would have picked them in a million years. Until November 16th, the jury, for me, is out.

    • taylor would be bad but thats because i feel too oversaturated by her and her songs right noe. Carrie is not in your face nearly as much, and at least she can sing.

  2. My first thought: Huh? Carrie Underwood?

My second thought: This could be good marketing for the film. Still not what I expected though.

I guess I’ll have to wait to hear the song before I decide.

    • Carrie sang the main song for the movie Enchanted and it was good. She should do a great job with VDT’s.

  3. I love Carrie’s song “Ever Ever After” for ‘Enchanted Movie’ and so excited for this Carrie new song for Narnia 🙂

    • I had forgotten that she did that song. That’s probably the only good song that I have heard of hers, because it’s not very country (a type of music that I just can’t bring myself to listen to). I hope that this one is along those same lines.

      • country music is pretty good, if you were not so biased you would realize that modern country is pretty good. keith urban, carrie underwood, brad paisley all great. and Carrie has last name, bhc, undo it, a lot of pretty good songs other than ever after.

        • I hope it’s sort of a slower song…somewhere along the lines of “Wunderkind” or “The Call”. I think that Carrie Underwood is the perfect choice to do a song for VDT. Although she is more well-known than Alanis Morrisette or Regina Spektor, but her personality and appeal make her a good choice for this type of film. Can’t wait to hear it!

          • Right..I get goosebumps when I listen to Wunderkind..It should be soft and sweet..
Anyway, very Excited Carie Is doing The song 😀

  4. this does sound bizarre, but it can only be good for us in the end. i have been worried about the low key presence of VDT vs. the first two movies and have worried about Fox dropping the ball. So to have Carrie onboard, no matter what it sounds like, can only be a good thing. MORE PUBLICITY FOR ASLAN!! HUZZAH!!

    • HQS…I am worried also…I had mentioned before that there has been no TV spots for trailers at all…what’s going on?? I mentioned before that PC had 2 commercial spots during the Super Bowl in ’08 (Jan.) and premiered in May..that was pretty far ahead…but nothing yet on TV…Once again, I hope Fox also does not drop the ball. PAUL Martin…have you heard of any schedule yet of when advertising is going to take place??

      • Fox has not yet dropped the ball. There are a lot of things going on. It’s all going to happen in the month of November. I’ve said before: Fox likes to advertise only a few weeks ahead of time. This way they can capture the best return on their advertising dollars. Everything is fresh on people’s minds.

        • good to know, thanks. i was not familiar with their typical strategy. whew! i also thought they might like to let harry potter come and go and let the air clear before they make a big splash. but do i still get a stuffed reepicheep? how ’bout the bookmarks, etc?

  5. It would not be a big surprise if Carrie is automatically nominated for a Golden Globe or Academy Award and she gets it, because that is what they do best regardless of what anyone else does.

  6. That is so great!! I really can’t wait for Chronicles of Narnia:Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I’ve already watch Prince Caspian like a hundred and forty-nine times!! Epic!! Long Live Narnia!!

  7. She’ll do fine. I like Jesus take the Wheel. And if she give Dawn Treader an academy award that will be great.

  8. Oh, I’m looking so forward to hearing this song by Carrie! As another person said, Carrie can sing other types of music besides country. She has a beautiful voice. Looking forward to this song and the movie now!!

    • yeah, i doubt very highly it will sound anything like country. she probably wants to crossover to pure pop.

  9. well i’m not big on carrie underwood, but i think that whatever she does will be a little different and fit with narnia. i love the song wunderkind and i’m really not a huge alanis morissette fan either. so i am optimistic…and super excited!!! i have LOVED the music from both movies so far.

i might not want to listen to it before i see it though…it might ruin the effect! 🙂 but how hard it would be to resist!!

  10. Hello guys, i can see most of you aint a big fan of Carrie Underwood, but all i can say is i know she has the package and obviously the vocals to pull off a big song. She is the country version of Celine Dion, and a versatile singer. She can sing in almost any genre and make it sound great. She is a songwriter, the winner of American Idol in 2005, one of the biggest stars in the music industry, what more could you ask for? Maybe you guys can listen to her sample demos in her latest album Play On, the link is below:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ON3WNG6X0Ts

She has both the beauty and the voice! I see her as the perfect candidate!

  11. Linda, thanks for sharing the link.

I’m disappointed with all this “oh no, it won’t fit in, it’s not what i wanted, oh she’s commercially successful so that’s no good for narnia. narnia can only use indie underground music”. Can we have some optimism in here please?

I enjoy Carrie Underwood’s music, and having heard ‘There’s A Place For Us on youtube’, it’s not country. (IMO, there’s nothing wrong with that genre of music.)

And Beren, you got the point across that you’re disgusted with Fox getting Carrie involved because it’s all about marketing and the purposes of just making money. Well, you know that if you want to see another Narnia film, VDT has to make money somehow. I think it’s great to have someone as successful as Carrie on board.

I’m looking forward to hearing the final song.

  12. Carrie Underwood is a brilliant selection! Carrie has the best voice of ay female singer alive today! The few that are complaining are your teen bubble gum Taylor Swift fans!

  13. I’m not a big fan of Carrie Underwood because I don’t like country although she is very talented and has an amazing voice. She will be around the music charts for a while.
