Oh yes, I know that it's totally unreal. But, I'm saying that even fantasy books need reality in them. Just imagine, in LotR, wouldn't it be stupid if Gandalf just went out killing all the orc armies single-handedly and threw the ring into Mount Doom? Course it would! Even Tolkien understood the need for reality in books. In tLWW, wouldn't it be a terrible story line if Alsan slew the witch and her armies by himself? Now, I'm not saying that Eragon went about killing whole armies of Urgals with Sapphira, but I'm trying to say that reality is the key.

oh wow! gosh....I agree with L_A. ha..sorry dun what to say. of course Tolkien and Lewis wouldnt make the books as simple as that. then they'd have no plot-line and be short and dull. :p

ha..I wonder how long it took you to type that up. :p need it be as complicated as that?

Mmm, I'm sure that Tolkien and Lewis would've been able to fill the books with something... a lot of filler-material. :p

Wow... a long, long, long 45 minutes. :p Hopefully someone will take the time to read it...

Yes, I think so. If a book is to become an "epic" or "classic", it needs to be able to be criticized to the fullest extent.

Well, you say you "laughed at the stupidity of the characters" which charatcers exactly? I can perhaps understand for Eragon, but not like Brom, Murtagh, Ajihad, Jeod.

You're contradicting yourself in the last sentence... How many books actually have a detailed and real battle? Personally, I don't look at the much detail in a battle. I think that many people look for the characters. I really think you cannot say anything bad about them. What's better than to have characters coming from the wonderful world of imagination? :)
I really think that Murtagh was not stupid.

Well, I suppose opinions about books differ. =P

I stayed up for six hours straight reading Eragon last night. I like it way more than Eldest. I think now I can account it as one of my favorite books.

Oooh, let's see:
Gods and Legions, The Last King, The Ten Thousand, The Sword of Attila, Emperor: The Gods of War, and Ironfire. Just to name a few. Ironfire focuses more on defense, The Gods of War focuses more on battlefield tactics, The Ten Thousand focuses more on a tactical retreat, The Sword of Attila focuses on the battlefield, and The Last King also focuses on the battlefield.

I don't look at the much detail in a battle.
Not a lot of Teens do, these days. I, on the other hand, find it fascinating how quick-witted some commanders (like Julius Caesar, La Valette, Flavius Aetius, and even Adolf Hitler. ) were.

I really think you cannot say anything bad about them.
Haha, I think that Eragon had a snotty attitude throughout the whole book! I know that he was just curious, but Paolini should have had him ask questions in more of a... nonirritating way. It's like he thought everybody owed him answers.

Mmm, I didn't say that Murtagh was stupid. He wasn't too bad, though I've already guessed that he's Eragon's brother. But that has to do with the story itself, not the character.

I should have made this clear in my fist post. :p You're absolutely right, TN.

Yes I don't want to argue or anything...just discuss..
Of course History can be fascinating but Alagaesia's got it's own history. Maybe people never thought about how good it would be to have longer spears... and don't forget that they've got magic.

About La Valette...I think I would call him wise...

Yup; of course the history of Alagaesia isnt like our own world. and the battle formations could be different.

All in all..its just imagination.

I have to say, I am flabbergasted that you even know who La Valette was. Providing that you actually know who he was. Anyway, are you saying that you would add "wise" to his list of trait, or that he was just wise?

*argues* :p
