  • well, at least you have students :p :)

I got married this past January... so ya, recently. Our focus is ESL but we will probably teach other subjects as well. We are planning on working at a small Christian school in Korea for the time being. Before we leave, we are hoping my husband can pass his CBEST/CSET so that he can start his masters in education while we are there (the college we graduated from has a masters program over there)
You are teaching Latin? that is quite awesome. Are you officially in a Nursing program yet, or are you still in the waiting faze?

As for me, I recently finished up my BA, got married, and am now trying to prepare to go overseas and teach. A bit frustrated, however, since we had to start over in the visa prep process since I changed my name...
Not usually...there are just those times when I want to...get a reaction out of the Tree....

(She's the one who suggested that I put an entry on her Treeness in the Encyclopedia, by the way, although she deleted the post after making it. My theory is that Lossiful originally disliked being labeled a Tree, but she's starting to like insisting that she isn't one. Something like Derny.)

If you're associating the term "science" with knowledge, then you really have gotten immersed in Great Books--which is cool. I didn't mean it in the "knowledge" sense--more in the social sciences sense. My school is a Christian liberal arts university with a pretty typical program, so the emphasis is more on job training. I'm history ed., so I have certain...er, deficiencies in other areas of the humanities, particularly languages, that I'm trying to fill in. Kind of. Except that it's hard to stick with my good intentions in the middle of the semester.
I'm a member of the Brotherhood; the Can Clan is unfortunately kind of dead. But I do get cliff-splatted in other threads every so often for dishonoring the Can. (I try to honor it, but then I stuff things in it, and...well....)

I'm a history ed. major, and whenever my ed. teachers talk about history being a science, I want to throw the book at them--LOTR and the Sil., that is. It's my idea of what good history should be like--the art of Story. Definitely not a science, although science has its place.
Sorry--D is MissReepicheep; it's the first letter of her first name. And don't fall off the TDL wagon. Someone needs to remind us not to abandon the Can thread (it hasn't been active since I've been a Duffer, which is sad :().

On gamer-LOTR-Star Wars--it's extremely sad. Especially when there's so much literary goodness in LOTR. It's gotten me into Norse myth and Finnish epics so far, and probably into Beowulf in the not-so-distant future.
I think the icing was in revenge for something he did to Derny; I forget what. And don't feel bad about the confusion; I expect I'll have quite a bit after being gone from internet this summer, since D and Sopes seem to be picking up on Duffering pretty quickly now.

My mom is a very practical, down-to-earth person with a suspicion about anything that involves fantasy magic. But, rather accidentally, I think, she ended up reading LWW to us. I bought the books later, got rid of them when I noticed the magic in them, re-read them when I became a teenager, understood their purpose, and loved them. It took longer to get into Tolkien--I associated him with Star Wars (the only Tolkien fans I knew in high school were video gamers). Then I started reading more C.S. Lewis, found out he was friends with Tolkien, and picked up LOTR. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of reading ROTK first. I read the other two in order, but seeing the movies over Christmas helped me really appreciate the books.
I wish my younger brothers would take after him...except the littlest one, who is sweet (when he's not frustrated in school or bored in church or being tormented by his older brothers). He snuggles with me, too, and I get to read to him (planning on The Hobbit this summer--my mom, who dislikes fantasy, says that I'm corrupting him).

You would probably remember more of what you did if you had developed a beard--but that would just be awkward. ;) Most of the old threads I've read were when you were fading, I think, and nothing in particular comes to mind, except some reference to when (I think) Derny got you to ice Olorin in real life.
Younger brothers can be wonderful (and evil; I have three). As for new Duffer objects--oops? They kind of come on their own.

Oh, and just so you know, Lossendil is a Tree--the Lossy-tree. As in, Derny is a Duffer (DIAD) and Lossy is a Tree (Triad). She refuses to admit it, naturally, but she has roots, bark, piney branches, and evil squirrels that sit on the piney branches and attack me when I mention her treeness. Freckles inadvertently caused it the last time she dropped in here--I doubt she knows it yet. :D

Speaking of Freckles, I think I ran into some of her early stuff while going through old threads this semester. Duffer development is an interesting process. Sometimes painful, too. Sopespian got really annoyed with Duffers after a Mafia game that ended...er, interestingly...but he's started getting sucked in. D's been coming along slowly, too, although for a while she was afraid to jump into the middle of things. She's getting over it now, which has been a lot of fun. :)
I'm guilty of the same feeling, I think. I still feel new, although I've been active for pushing three years and caught the tail end of Oly and Freckles (I didn't know enough about Duffering to really understand what was going on, though). Hanging out with Lossifiscient doesn't help, since she was around for a lot of stuff I wasn't. But, being newer, I have more old Duffer threads to read than they did, so I guess it evens out.
I'm afraid it's my fault, in a roundabout sort of way, but Lava was the one who turned a passing reference into an encyclopedia entry.
Glad to friend a Duffer under any circumstances, and Duffer dinosaurs (Lava put that one into the encyclopedia this week) in particular. ;)

I guess Life has a lot of definitions...I don't have a Life, because I lost it in the shower last fall, and my roommate said that it went down the drain, and that she couldn't catch it because it was too slippery. Some roommates.... *shakes head*
Yes - my teacher right now is very intent on the technique and poise of playing piano. :D And glad to meet you as well - I'm glad to know there are other adivid piano players. If you ever get a chance, you should check out Keith Green. He was a great Christian piano player. I can play the intro to his The Prodigal Son Suite :) It's on you-tube.
Nope, no name change. I just got here a few days ago. I really love piano and probably started around the same time you did - if not earlier. I've been taking lessons in general for 8-9 years and have hadmy fiar share of theory, bach and lesson books. :D I really like just sitting down and playing what comes to mind and letting my emotion take over what I play. More strict stuff like Bach is harder because of its rigidness and rigorous rhythm. :D
I've been taking piano for a while. Saw that you like serious piano as well. How long have you been playing?
Latin teacher! So, do you enjoy teaching? I've long wanted to learn Latin, but its time has yet to come. I am currently doing Greek, and I love it. Perhaps Latin will have its turn in a couple years.
I haven't started working yet, and with the class schedule I have, I'm not sure I want to. But perhaps things will settle down somewhere along the way. And I hope the same for you. I hope your studies and work will at least fall into managable rhthym, if not slow down a bit. :)
