Are the Emerald Witch and the White Witch the same person.

And that's certainly a valid interpretation, but it is still an interpretation. (I feel like one of those "militant agnostic" bumper stickers--I don't know and you can't either! :p In all seriousness, though, I think this comes down to personal interpretation.)

I would certainly agree with this. I do think my point of view has been thoroughly coloured by the use of Barbara Kellerman as both characters in the BBC which I saw before reading the books (though I was only a few years old when I first saw them. As a result, my interpretation could conceivably have no basis but I feel there's enough evidence in the book to support it - thus I shall keep it.

Noooooo! You are wrooooooonnnnngggg! You have to STOP THINKING THAT!

Or, um, OK, if you want to think that, that's good, too.

I was referring to the second half, but entirely in fun. ;)
LOL. Personally I think Jonny just persists in claiming to believe the two witches are the same person because he knows this theory annoys me ... might as well just say Glimfeather and the phoenix in the garden in TMN are the same bird ... there's no evidence that they aren't the same bird, and they both have feathers and a beak and roost high up ...

There is a little more evidence than that...the problem is there isn't anything conclusive. *perplexed*

Awwwww - would I do that!!?!?!

.... well yes I probably would. :D But not this time. I really do think they are the same person!! Honest. Just like I truly believe that Jill is just Susan having suffered amnesia and regressed in age through a freak scientific accident that also changed her physical features. That, I think, is undeniable!!

Oh well, there is certainly nothing in the text which suggests that Jill can't be Susan with amnesia ...

You are killing me!!!

No. We really, really, really don't want to hear it. You're crazy. That's no reason to drive us crazy.

See you just have to think laterally. Do you want to hear my Trumpkin/Rumblebuffin theory???? :)
AAAeeehhhh!
You are a madman!

Green Lady + White Witch = 2 DIFFERENT PEOPLE!

Now stop!!!!!

Thank you, Dernie.

Wow. Its been a while since I started this thread and its turned into a big discussion/argument.

I frankly don't know wheter or not their same. I tend to lean towards the decision that they are not, but that poem spoken by Rillian in my mind is evidence that I can't ignore.

"Though under earth and thronless now I be,
While I lived, all Earh was Under Me."

Wait, are you saying you think that the verse refers to the Green Lady herself?

Yup.

Though under earth and throneless now I be-refering to WW after she was buried and dethroned in LWW

While I lived-indicating that she died

all earth was under me- so the Witch was revived in underland and took the form of the Emerald Witch.

I think it's mentioned in the book that those words were carved for a king of the overland—Rillian explains that to them, trying to convince them that the words were a coincidence, and not meant to guide them. If I'm remembering that correctly, those lines can't really be used as evidence. I still have an inclination to think that they're the same though. :p Mostly because—where else do you get a witch like that? Hags are one thing. Witches are not (to my way of thinking) a natural part of Narnia, and there is no evidence of contact with worlds other than ours after MN.
