ok! i'm adding ALL of chapter 8
Today went amazing. I got constant attention from Jacob, Alec and Jason. Alec kept me laughing, silently laughing.
The translating worked well. Jacob kept up tirelessly the entire day all through my constant chatter. Alec and Jason are transferring later this week to St. John’s Christian Academy.
I sit by the windows. My forehead is resting upon the glass pane, waiting for Daddy. I’m so excited. Today is one of the only days I get to see Daddy. I miss him terribly. The effects of divorce are horrible and lonely.
Oh! He’s here. Bright headlights shine in my face. I know this night will be amazing.

School. Will I ever be able to concentrate again? Melony plagues my thoughts constantly. But she’ll never know, never know how I feel. She can’t. It would ruin everything. What if she doesn’t feel the same?
Like yesterday, I’m on my way to Algebra II. Ring! Oh! Drat, there was the first bell. I walk into my room. Mr. Anderson looks up from his attendance book. “Thank you for joining us today or are we running off again?” I stare cruelly at Mr. Anderson. He was one of the people who tried to get the board to not let Melony into St. John’s Christian Academy. He thought that having her in the classrooms would hinder other students from learning as much, as they waited for Melony. She’s proving them all wrong with every breath, every second of her attendance at St. John’s. She is the smartest student in the entire sophomore class. Mr. Anderson did not approve of my running off to hang out with Melony during his class yesterday. I smile at the fact.
I quickly take my seat in the back of the room, where Mr. Anderson can’t breath done my neck. He finishes up attendance, probably marking me tardy even though I was only seconds late. His lecture begins. I already know everything he’s talking about. Melony’s class is farther along and I helped her study for the test two weeks ago. What will I do to entertain myself for an hour? The only thing that comes to mind is Melony. I snicker at the thought. Mr. Anderson turns from the board he was writing on and glares at me. I keep smiling. There’s nothing that man can do to stop my love for Melony. There’s nothing anyone can do.

History test! Oh no. I can’t do this. I won’t do well enough… There I go again. My consoler warns me of this constantly. I am a perfectionist who takes things way to far and has hardly any self-esteem. That’s exactly what she told me. I don’t know what to do about it. I can’t just change myself at the drop of a dime.
I stare at the clock nervously and drum my nails on my desk. As the hands get close to 8:10, I drum harder, keeping my gaze glued on the clock.
Smack! [INSERT NAME]’s hand lands on top of mine, stopping my violent tapping. She smiles at me. “Hey, chill out. It’s just a test and you’ll probably ace it, since you are the smartest girl in the class.”
I roll my eyes. I get told this a lot, I just can’t ever seem to believe it. Her kind comments make me angry. She doesn’t really mean it, does she?
“Ok? Just relax!” She’s looking right at me. What do I do? I can’t tell her how I really feel.
I put on a smile. “Thanks,” I sign to her letter by letter. She’s learning phrases and stuff in sign language, but she isn’t fluent enough to understand much. She’s mostly comfortable with the alphabet.
The bell rings. Mrs. Carmen is sitting in her seat waiting. The class is still noisy with chatter. Everyday I hear the same chatter. Everyday I wish I could be a part of it, but that will never happen and it’s all my fault. I’ll never speak again can it’s all my fault.
~
Melony. I sigh. I have every class with her. I watch her everyday and she never seems to get old. Her hair is pulled up into a high, messy ponytail and she has tucked it over her shoulder, under her chin. She’s nervous, probably about the test. Her bright blue eyes look like a deer’s stuck in the head lights of an oncoming car.
“David… David Bohm!” Mrs. Carmen is standing the front of the room taking attendance.
“Oh, sorry. Here.” I shrink into my seat, scolding myself for daydreaming. I glance at Katie and then at Melony. Katie follows my gaze straight to Melony. She looks away. I can see the hurt on her face. Melony gives me an odd looks and turns back to Mrs. Carmen. Katie pulls strings of guilt in my gut. How long can I keep doing this? How many more times will I hurt her, my astounding Katie? So trusting. So willing. So amazing. Why can’t I love her like she loves her?
~
My head rolls forward and I snap awake. Wow, I need to pay attention. I concentrate on the board, but Mr. Anderson’s voice is uninteresting to me. I wonder what Melony’s doing.

All the bubbles to fill in. All the questions. I can’t remember this one. What is it? I glance up at [INSERT NAME.] Her head is in her hands and her elbows are on her desk. Her forehead is creased with a frown. She’s having just as much trouble with this test as I am!
My mind starts to wander. Jason and Alec are transferring for sure tomorrow. I can’t wait. It’ll be great to get to know them more. But they strike me different from other boys at St. John’s. Alec seems so much older than all the other freshmen guys, more mature or something like that. And Jason, there’s so much about him I don’t understand. He seems very refined, very put together. Something mysterious hangs around him. Something I’m dying to understand.
Oh, back to that question.
