Christian Pop Music

I think we sometimes use those iWorships in my church....they're okay....some of the songs are ones I recognize but some I have no clue of what they are. :p but some of the videos that go along with them are neat.

PS- KEITH GREEN!!!! He was in the 70s JESUS movement, and he's got the 70s style, but JESUS lyrics. I'd recommend all of his work, especially any songs from his evangelism CD.

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT! There are a FEW of his songs which annoy me, but growing up in a musician's family (Mom and Dad), I have my musical likes and dislikes partially based on patterns and rhythms and such I've heard TOO MUCH over the years.

I've probably said this already, but being a part of a Pentecostal church, I hear and play a lot of Christian pop.

Granted, we play mostly inspirational, but the crossover pop songs have become more and more prevalent in the last few years as praise & worship songs.

Long-gone are the days of two-beat praise songs, and the straight-jacket of hymns :D. Just kidding! We still play some of both, mostly because no matter how dreary they can be sometimes, hymns are part of the foundation of what we play today. Plus, they're some really powerful ones, of course!

What I like about Hymns is that everything is about praising God and about our sinful nature and His Mercy. They are awesome!

Well I like a lot Hillsong United, Michael W. Smith and Don Moen, they sing really good Christian music with a great message.

I'm agree that a lot of the groups of Christian pop music are bore and monotonus, there's nothing different between them.

I was so glad when someone finally mentioned Jennifer Knapp. She is pretty much amazing. Has a different sound than most christian pop out there. I really like her. I've also gotta agree with just about everyone about Casting Crowns. If you haven't already, you really do need to check them out.

What I can't believe is that no one mentioned Caedmon's Call. Granted, I don't think they'd be classified as "pop" but they've gotta be in my all time top 3 favorite bands. They're extremely talented and varied, musically, and have lyrics that are both incredibly accesible and profoundly deep. I highly recommend them. I think 40 Acres is my favorite album of theirs. They're no longer together, but Derek Webb, one of the founding members, is doing his own thing now, and he's pretty much incredible too. Look up his song called "Wedding Dress." Or any of the rest of his songs, for that matter...

Wow Branch,

I was just about to post about Derek Webb when I saw your post. I am a HUGE fan of his music, since his music is very raw and honest, and is not like a lot of the stuff you hear on the radio. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard him on the radio come to think of it. But yeah, if you want to hear stuff by a real songwriter and not "la la la, we love God, la la la, we love God" he is definitely worth listening to. His first album, 'She Must and Shall Go Free' is honestly one of the most well-written Christian albums I have ever heard. He has a few others out now, such as 'Mockingbird' (another great album) but overall, I must recommend him.

Caedmon's Call is still rather good from what I've heard. The last album I have from them is titled (I think..) 'Share the Well'. This album is musically diverse and feature a lot of well-written songs with a strong message behind them. Their only 'weak' (and I use the term loosely) album is probably 'Back Home'. It's a decent album, but not their best work honestly. But 40 Acres is probably my favorite of theirs.

Some others who are not in the la la la category:
Casting Crowns
Jeremy Camp
Third Day
PFR (kinda pop-ish, but still a good band)

Of course you probably already know about these but it's certainly worth a mention:
Rich Mullins (amazing songwriter, humbling life story)
Keith Green (same could be said for him)
Older MWS and SCC (they both have gotten kinda pop-ish now tho)

I can't think of any other off the top of my head at the moment, but I may add to this list later.

ok on the radio I hear an amazing christian song! and the band was something Jars or had to do with jars
lol what's the band called
the song was called Flood
I think....

Casting Crowns is my all time favorite because their song lyrics are just so... real (well, at least to me) and it sounds awesome too. My favorites by them are 'Every Man', 'Praise You In This Storm', and 'East to West'. :D

I've heard that song 'Flood'. It is pretty good. I agree with the whole topic here, Christian music is always the same. That's why it's good to listen to the good old hymns once in a while ;)

I like Kathryn Scott, she does good Christian music.

Ok then!! I'll buy one cd each for Casting Crowns and Jars of Clay as they seem to be the names that pop up more often. I'll let you know how they go.

If you listen to a lot of Christian Pop, then you probably know more than me. Any good ones you think I might like?

What I would like to get out of this thread is for people to point me to good Christian music. What I've heard so far doesn't move me, but that doesn't mean there is nothing good out there. I just can't find it.

Try Trading Yesterday or 33Miles

I don't know exactly what you concider fluff, probably you would think that Mark Schultz and Mark Harris are pretty much just that (they are more ballady songs with references to God here and there).

I think that you would enjoy Most of what Chris Rice does, also a lot of what Casting Crowns does, some Mercy Me, Newsong, Newsboys, Natalie Grant. A lot of the newer singers have a specifically "Praise and Worship" CD I know that I would personally recomend the Newsboys one, some of the older bands/singers also have put out "worship" Cds. Often times, with the newer CDs you have to sift through the fluff to get to the good stuff. In fact, I think the one except that I know is Casting Crowns.

Tenth Avenue North: Over and Underneath. AMAZING cd. It made me, who has cried once in the past ten years, cry. That takes some doing. Their lyrics are simply amazing.
