Christian Pop Music

Christian music that is cool? I have some artists I know that have songs that are pop and rock sort things:

Okay any artist on The Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe... Those people have awsome songs.

Switchfoot
Tobymac
Kutless
David Crowder band
Jars of Clay
Stephen Curtis Chapman
Newsboys

Thats just some of the cool Christian music artists I listen to. ;):D:cool:

Also I found a link to Newsboys site http://www.newreleasetuesday.com/lyricsdetail.php?lyrics_id=49704

It's really hard to find good "fluff-free" Christian music, but it's out there. I find that some of the best Christian songs (including pop) are the ones that are basically just Bible verses put to music, or the ones that take out the main points of a passage and make them more poetic. My two favorite Christian bands that do this are Casting Crowns and BarlowGirl. Their lyrics are very creative and for the most part, free of fluff (and very God-glorifying!). My other favorites include Switchfoot and Relient K. Contrary to Casting Crowns and BarlowGirl, their songs are more "topical" and are more closely related to secular music than other Christian music. However, they're still just as God-glorifying as the other two - they just have a different approach. Actually, Switchfoot and Relient K tend to have almost NO "fluff." Their songs are chock full of meaningful and very well thought-out lyrics.

I use to be a big fan of Comtempory Christian Music. But I feel there just isn't the quality there. It may be that talented singers just don't want to do that kind of service. You just don't have a 2nd Chapter of Acts, Amy Grant, Keith Green, Petra, Servant, Michael W. Smith, or Marty McCall (Fireworks and First Call). But that was 20 years ago. I will say that that good Praise-Worship music is still coming out, which is all the Lord really want.

People keep saying Casting Crowns but I still haven't heard anything good from them. But to be fair, I haven't listened to much.

I bought some songs from iTunes, but really I only like about 2 songs from Casting Crowns and maybe 2 from Jars of Clay. Mostly I bought Michael W Smith (7 songs), Steven Curtis Chapman (2 songs) and one I really like from Nicol Sponberg called "Resurrections."

oh, and Robbie Seay Band (4 songs)
I checked out Newsboys but I really didn't like them. I'll check out a few more when I have time.

I don't like whats on Christain Radio (with a few exptions, Like Tobymac and Casting Crowns). I listen to the harder Christain music like Pillar and Thousand Foot Krutch, and my home town band Disciple.

I agree with you about Switchfoot and Relient K. Relient K is my favorite band, mostly because their lyrics are so real and speak to me. Sometimes they have silly songs, but the next one on the CD can be so true and touching. It's like they take my words, thoughts, and feelings and put them into a song. I love music that is personal like that.

Thanks to everyone who has posted in this thread. I have been looking closely to Christian Pop and I've found a few I like. Most of it is what I consider "generic" stuff that our youth group plays a lot better in church, but some good stuff is out there.

A lot of people mentioned Casting Crowns and Jars of Clay. So far I only like about two songs from each, that's all. I listened to that Phelps guy and I did not like him. Sorry. I hope people keep posting more stuff. I will check it out as time permits.

in germany christian pop/rock music's not so popular ... but i listen to switchfoot and as i lay dying. the first time i've heard songs from switchfoot was in a walk to remember. i absolutley fall in love with this band. so bad that they don't come to germany...and as i lay dying ... ok it's metalcore (my music XD) ... but not many people know that they are a christian band ...
i wouldn't say that I am a really religious person ... but both bands have something special in their music that in can't describe.

christian music is like normal music, there are pop, rock, metal (?).. christian pop music is the same (not in the contents), the beat and the rythm are very close.. or are you talking about the words, the lyrics and these things.. ? :p

well, i like the classics, chris tomlin and vineyard are ok for me :D
