I liked A Town Called Mercy. I've seen a lot of people draw parallels between what Amy told Eleven about killing and what Rose told Nine about destroying the Dalek in... well... Dalek, as well as Donna's reminder that The Doctor sometimes needs people to stop him. I like that that is a theme of sorts. The companions essentially help him hold onto his, I suppose, sense of humanity.
Yes, I did like that aspect of it.

I totally understand why BK is so eager to see the Ponds leave. I am glad that we get to move onto another companion, but I'm just dreading actually seeing Rory and Amy leave the show. :p Once they're gone, I'll be super pumped for the new direction the show is taking, but at the moment I'm really apprehensive about HOW they're going to leave.

I think that Amy's statement, "See, this is what happens when you travel alone for too long," is a sort of subtle hint that the Doctor needs a new companion — and not just the Ponds more often, since they have a real life: "Um, can we leave it awhile? Our friends are going to start noticing that we're aging faster than them." I think it's pointing to the Pond's departure and the entrance of Jenna-Louise's companion. Foreshadowing, you know.

It really looks as if they've run out of ideas for the Ponds. They don't know what to do with them. They really should've gone at the end of last season. I think that they're using them as "fillers" now for the episodes. If you think about it, the episodes could work well without them.

I have noticed that as well, but I suspected that it is because they're trying to show us that we don't need the Ponds in order to have a satisfactory storyline, and that's it's okay for them to go.

I don't know how everyone feels but I didn't really like the latest episode. It was like, too rushed, and in the end I'm not sure what the exact reason was for trying to kill humans other than the dude not liking us!

And the Ponds are back traveling with the Doctor for no reason cause they'll be gone for good at the end of next episode, I think.

Howdy! I finally watched the very first and second episodes of Dr Who (made in 2005 or something? Maybe there was an "original" series that I have never seen, but this is Season One according to my Amazon Kindle).

Anyway, I loved it! It has the Doctor and a pretty little blonde girl named Rose. She was attacked by mannikins in the basement of the shop where she works, is how she met the Doctor. Very charming!

Now I have how many seasons to get through to catch up with you? A lot! I will try to watch them in order as I get the time. I managed to work through 3 seasons of "Lark Rise to Candleford" on my Kindle, but they didn't make as many episodes per season of that as there seem to be for Dr Who.

Welcome to the madness. It won't take long to catch up. The new seasons are very different from season 1, it's scary.

Yes! There is previous seasons. But watch New Who first. Doctor Who started in 1963, and has gone through 8 Doctors.(The Doctor regenerates to new faces and personality. That's why the show is so long) Then they took a break, and started back in 2005 with the 9th Doctor. Now we are on the 11th Doctor, played by Matt Smith(the 10th Doctor is portrayed by David Tennant). All of the Doctor's regeneration have different physical features and personality. You'll find you have a favorite.

Another thing about Doctor Who is the companions. You are started with Rose Tyler. The next one is Martha Jones and then Donna Noble.Right now the companions is Amy Pond and Rory Williams I won't tell you how long they stay, it might spoil a season or two. You'll have a favorite companion as well as a Doctor. The companions are all different, and they have played a different role in the Doctor's life.

I hope that explains somethings. If you have any questions, please ask any of us. :D

Wow, thanks everyone! I had no idea. So far I like this Doctor, but he is the only one I have seen. BK I will definitely check the link you sent. And I appreciate all the pointers. I watched episode 3 last night, and I can see why it is addictive. Very smart and funny. So far -- I hope it won't get too scary too fast!

I started halfway through the fifth season (actually in the second part of a two-parter, I think :p), so I can attest to the fact that it doesn't take long to get up to speed! I'm by no means a Doctor Who expert, but it didn't take me long at all to know enough to understand most of it.

Cool. I think I want to watch all the ones with this particular doctor in order. At least, so far that is what I am doing. Very enjoyable.

It's not very scary, but wait till the Weeping Angels. Those are the only thing I'm scared of in Doctor Who.
By this Doctor, I assume you mean the 9th Doctor. I really like him, he's really cool.

I don't know which Doctor! The one in the first episodes of the 2005 series, Eccleston? He is a really good.

The series are counted from the revival of the show, and there is generally one series per year. There is not a certain number of series per doctor/actor.
Eccleston was only with the show one season; he's in Series One.
Tennet was on the show for several years; he's in Series Two, Three, Four, and the year of specials.
Smith joined in 2009/2010 and is the current Doctor; He's in Series Five, Six, and Seven, and will be around for Eight, the fiftieth anniversary year.

Fourth Series has Tenth Doctor and the companion Donna Noble. It's one of my favorite series. Donna is a brilliant companion. :3

The gas mask children are quite scary as well. I have just started from the beginning as well. Rose and 10 are my favourites. Although they all have their charms :).

What does 'The Fourth Series' mean exactly? I decided to start watching this and got a random series out of the library. Now I don't know which Doctor it is!

You need to check out THIS post. It's a detailed and chronological explanation and listing of all the modern Doctor Who series and their respective episodes.

Right, I was just going to link to that post. It was very helpful for me in figuring out why Series 1 had the 9th Doctor! And other stuff.
