Eeeeegggggssss

Making sense is boring anyway. I make things up then justify them within the constructs of my worlds, most of which didn't make sense to begin with.
So I make things make sense with nonsense.
Which is also basically Dufferland.

I, however, think that rules are the real problem. And also making sense. If novels didn't try to make sense, they would be more interesting. As it is, most of them only half make sense, which is worse. Either go all the way or none of the way. The middle ground is where most of the romance novels live, a land of nameless evil.

Let's shake hands and part friends at this point. I never cared for Alice in Wonderland. What? No, you cannot keep my hand! What would you do with a dead hand? It doesn't make any- Argh! Stop pulling! DROP THAT KNIFE!

Not if you're an expert. The 17th century English were experts at impaling heads. I could bribe some of them to give you lessons, if you would like. Some of them might even lend you their heads to practice on.

But an impaled hand may appear to be an invitation - like it's waving at you in a friendly way, urging you to enter. An impaled head means only one thing, that I know of.

Let's see....

1. A reminder that "idle hands are the devil's workshop."
2. To help people recall their Scripture memory: "Look to the hand, thou sluggard! Consider her ways, and be wise."
3. To remind you that handshaking spreads germs.
4. To suggest that you high five all your enemies, in the face.
5. To give the city gates a fragrant odor.
6. To start a trend in interior decorating.
7. To illustrate the difference between hands and the Han Dynasty.
8. To encourage reflection upon mortality.
9. To encourage reflection upon immortality.
10. To encourage reflection upon fish.

Impaling hands is the right of English gentlemen. Do not question it.

*reflects upon fish*

Actually, I was wondering what other meanings the impaling of heads could have.

But that's okay. You totally don't have to answer that if you don't want to!

Actually, I was wondering what other meanings the impaling of heads could have.
Impaling heads remings people to:
  • keep their head
  • avoid being headstrong
  • hold up the heads of babies carefully so they don't suffer neck damage
  • to read Washington Irving's story about the Headless Horseman
  • to head out of town when they see buzzards painting the courthouse green
  • to head off enemy players in Capture the Flag
  • to eat head cheese
  • to avoid being beheaded (this is the one most people seen obsessed with, I don't understand why)
At least you're looking for meaning. Toodles would approve.

Ogden and Richard wrote a book about that, called The Meaning of Meaning. It views the subject mainly from a linguistic perspective, though.

*impales book* Sorry, Glen. I had to. I'm Freckles the Compulsive Impaler.

I think she really wants to be a vampire hunter, but is concerned about job security.

Go on, Freckles. Live your dreams.

Do you realize how dangerous a thing that is to say?

I would actually interpret my previous actions as my passion for words clashing with my passion for the precioussss. What? No. I meant to say passion for violence. Don't know how that happened.

Don't worry, Frecious, I'm sure the desire comes naturally. But you really should focus on stabbing vampires; it's more educational.

In this context, "Live your dreams" sounds an awful lot like "Do as I say and kill vampires". Unfortunately, I already have a life goal: find the preciousssss.

NO! NOT AGAIN!

Poor Frecious, you really seem troubled. Maybe you should try to live more authentically, to be all that you can be.
