Favorite Scene From The Lotr Movies

Although I have a hard time forgiving their choice of actors for the elves. Legolas was ok, but the others were a disaster. How could Arragorn love someone who was so spacy? It just didn't fit.

Boy do I agree with you here. Cate Blanchet I thought did her best - but the character that PJ wrote just didn't work for me - too dark and mysctic; she didn't seem to have any of Galdriel's warmth. I also imagined the lady of light being a bit more...well beautiful (miss Blanchet is pretty, and I admire her quite a bit - but she just didn't have that 'unearthly' quality I was expecting.) She was my favorite of the elves - however.

And you hit the nail on the head with Arwen. Liv just always looked like she was distracted by something shiny.

LOL! That is very humorous!

But I liked Arwen, I thought she was lovely. I liked Galadriel, too, although she was quite different from my imagination of her.

I agree with the pretty part...but what happend to Glorfindel?
Well, Arwen was such a doll, they decided to give his part to her. For us hopeless romantics, this worked better ...

I liked Glorfindel though :( ! What happened to Dernhelm in the movie? Merry just knew it was Eowyn...argh! They did a good job visually with these movies, but they changed so much. I want to see the director's cut.

I agree, that dynamic was lost, and that was too bad, because Dernhelm was almost a character in herself, with that death wish in her eyes ... Now, is the director's cut the same as the special extended edition DVD? Cuz I have all those, and it's great to watch and pick out which bits weren't in the cinema version. I have to say, although they are longer, they are much better with the additional scenes!

Once I've read LOTR, the movies pale in comparison. They should have stayed true to the books. If they 'tweaked' some scenes and made them faithful to the book (scenes like Sam leaving Frodo, Arwen anything, Theoden's indecision, most of the Helm's Deep battle, etc...) It would have been much better. But I still love the movies they were very well made.

I think the directer's cut and extended version are the same. I want to see all of those scenes, and didn't they write music for the scenes as well? aghh! I want them!

Arwen anything! yup, same here, but Arwen did well in RotK, alomost exactly like the book. Why did they make up that scene with Sam leaving? Don't forget Treebeard's indecision (i didn't like that :(). the battle at Helm's deep bugged me, and come on, the elves didn't fight at helm's deep. THe could have tweak a lot of the scenes to make them more lie the book, but that's okay. They are indeed good movies, just a little messy.

whew! I thought my sis and I were the only ones who voiced this frustration. :) But yeah they're great as stand alone movies (until you've read the books ;)) I just hope LWW isn't too far off from the books. *fingers crossed*

I agree, you have to consider the LOTR movies as a different thing from the books, but as movies, they are just superb. I think maybe LWW will be that way, too. I am wiling for it to vary from the book as LOTR did, as long as the movie is in the spirit of the book and a good movie.

Its hard for me to watch movies that have been contrived from books. I just hope the LWW is better than LotR (in the sense that it stays true to the book) I'm biting my fingernails.

oh man. don't even get me started on the lotr movies. if i'm not careful, i'll go off at just about all the scenes in the movies (while watching). i still love them though. they just frustrate me because of how good they could have been if they'd stayed true-er to the books.

but favourite scene, probably where boromir tries to take the ring and falls down and says 'frodo! I'm sorry' etc. also the bit on concerning hobbits is awesome too. i love where the one hobbit just keeps picking his ear and looking at his finger, and where the hobbit in 'love' pauses talking to his sweetheart to eat.
