Is there ANYONE else besides me who likes Snape? (In Harry Potter of course) I really do feel soooo sorry for him...and I think there must be some mistake about his killing Dumbledore in the last book... Seriously, I really do like him. So call me weird. :D

I really liked him in the books, and I still think there's ways for him to be good still. I liked how he wouldn't take guff from Harry when Harry was kind of being snotty, and his motives are so hard to guess he becomes and interesting character. And we know practically nothing about his life before this, or his younger history. I only hope we will learn more in book seven. How do you think he'll be absolved of bumping off Dumbledore?

Well I'm not sure...the Imperious Curse seems waaayyy to obvious. So does the Pollyjuice Potion. Or maybe he did, but he really repented. Or maybe Dumbledore really isn't dead? But I don't think the series will end with him a bad guy. And yes, he's really an interesting character. And he evokes sympathy.

Snape may be my favorite character. I still cannot believe he is bad. I think either Dumbledore made him do what he did, or else he will do something to redeem himself in the end. I like his charater in the books, and I think Rickman is a great Snape in the movie, too.

That's an intriguing possibility...that Dumbledore made him kill him. Hmmm. Why would he do that though? Still, he is one of my favorite characters.

Maybe D knew someone was going to kill him, or that the potion he drank was going to kill him anyway, so to prevent the little Malfoy from becoming a murderer, he arranged with Snape to do it.

Earlier in the book, the kids overhear Snape arguing with D, saying he's not going to do it anymore or doesn't want to do it, and D over-rules him pretty violently. Maybe Snape was trying to back out of killing him.

Also, at the end, JKR says it sounds like D is begging, something Harry never heard before, but D never says what he is begging for -- is he begging for his life, or begging Snape to kill him so that young Malfoy won't have to?

I'm just guessing, partly because I like Snape, and I want him to turn out to be a good guy, despite how things look right now.

Those are good thoughts. I don't think it's possible for Snape to end up evil, because JKR didn't make him bad enough. Not everyone utterly loathes him. I think that was on purpose, so that there is room for him to end up good.

I hope so. If he is really bad, I will be sad. :(

I don't know what to think about dear old Severus really..in the books 1-4,I always hated him for being so horrible to Harry and the others from Gryffindor. In book 5 I felt a little sorry for him (I was also way too busy with hating Umbridge to think very much about Snape),and in the 6th book,I once again hated him for killing Dumbledore.So...let's say I'm rather confused at this point.

Well, you can kind of see it from a different point of view. Mostly in books 1-5, Harry and friends kind of tossed any rules out the window to do what they judged to be the best thing at the time, which was not always right, and kind of even put thier friends in danger at times. A great example is Harry never telling about the snake voice in book two, or keeping stuff from Dumbledore about his dreams of Voldy in book five. That helped send Sirius to his death. So mostly, not all the time, but mostly Snape is just enforcing the rules, which is also what McGonagall does. However, Snape is guilty of favoritism, and he's not the nicest guy. I don't think we're supposed to get that he's a sweet old softie underneath it all. He's had a bad life, and he's not a nice guy. But is he an evil guy? That is the question....

I agree. If I had had as terrible a life as he had, I might be pretty nasty too! Makes you feel sorry for him, but at least he does try to do his job. He also has redeeming qualities...like the fact that he endangers himself and probably gets punished pretty badly by Voldemort in order to spy. Well, at least if he was REALLY spying on the bad guys and not the other way around...I don't really know, actually... :)

I don't like Snape...he's just too greasy. It's not just his hair (lol) but his demeanor. I know one of my friends really likes him, but he has not grown on me whatsoever. :p

I sorta liked him...obviously I wouldn't really like to meet someone with his personality, but he's an awesome, complex character to the books, and its just fascinating to read whenever it's a scene with him and Harry.

I totally agree with you! I wouldn't want to imagine a teacher like that (too late) But I really love the scenes with him and Harry like the one where they were in DADA class and Snape says "Yes, Sir." and harry goes "You don't have to call me sir, professor." (of course in a more literature kind of way) Haha! That really cracked me up! If I were snape, I would be REALLY pissed.
