Returning to holding her extra close, which was no burdensome chore for him, Alipang said, "She must have said something else, in the amount of time you were on. Relax your mind and remember."

Alipang hurt himself squeezing her. "Mrs. Capshaw! Don't you remember? Mrs. Capshaw used to be a stage magician! Toured from Boston to Atlanta! If that caller's your birth mother, and she knew where to reach you, she might have had some local informant--and the magic-trick reference must mean it was Mrs. Capshaw!"
 
"If she didn't wish for some kind of contact, she didn't have to call you at all. And as for the _fact_ of her calling you: if Mrs. Capshaw does know your birth mother, then she could pass TO your birth mother anything she may have heard from _our_ folks about _you_ being curious. That would have given your birth mother the boldness to call you!"
 
Alipang hugged her back; then with one arm still around her, led her back inside. When they told their parents about the call, Mrs. Havens said, "That sounds hopeful; but you won't be able to ask Mrs. Capshaw about it this weekend. Her father-in-law up in Baltimore had a stroke early this morning, so she and her husband had to rush up there."
 
" Oh, no I hope he all right," she told her, taking a seat next to her mum " Mum I just want to let you and papa I don't care if I see her any more now I know she still cares about me," she told her, with a smile kissing them on the cheek " Now I know she knows I'm here and safe with you I think I can stop worrying so much," she told them.
 
Paradoxically, just when Chilena's enthusiasm for birth-parent-hunting began to wane, Alipang found the whole business sticking in his mind like a thorn. He didn't like unsolved mysteries. He sat staring into space, trying to guess how Mrs. Capshaw might have come to know Chilena's birth mother--as well as what circumstances that birth mother was really living in right now, with or without the birth father.
 
She laid her head on his shoulder closeing her eyes she felt like this was her real family all the long. She looked up at him with a smile " I love you much al," she told him, kissing him " Every much," she said under her breath this time.

This was enough to suspend Alipang's detective impulses. He _would_ look into this further eventually; but for now--he hauled Chilena back onto her reserved seat in his lap, and they kissed again.
 
" I was wondering hm what it well be like if you and wasn't related I mean well I know you or what?," she told him, looking down at her hands.

His forehead leaned into hers. "Are you sure you want to hear that, sweets? Isn't it enough to know that I love you in the way that's possible?"

 
EDIT: At the time I began writing this post, GV's post immediately above it included a phrase about "being together."

If by 'together' you mean 'together'...the fact is, if our exact relationship AS PERSONS, our understanding and trust, could somehow have existed just as it is without our having been raised as a brother and sister...then I would want to marry you and no one else. Not even Kim would have a chance with me."

Her eyes got wide " What really well just be glad you in love with Kim I don't know what I do with out Dan you know and you don't worry about Kim she just need some time to think about it," she told him, taking her brother's hand " Al you my brother and I pourd to be our sister other then I'm not your blood sister I'm still you sister and way," she told him, with a smile.
