Homeschoolers in Highschool, Part Two

"Really?" Jen thought over this. "I like dodgeball. We used to play it in middleschool. But then I think the principal banned it after someone gave another kid a black eye...."

"Well it's the kid's own fault for not keeping his head in the game." Brendan shrugged. When it came to kid's getting hurt in games, he didn't feel badly towards them, like the adults. They had signed up for it, so they deserve to get everything that comes with it.

"I don't know, I knew him," Jen sighed. "Poor guy's afraid of any ball game now."

Alipang having left the cafeteria, the gangsta wanna-be "Leopard Man"--real name Edward Mannering--strutted in. Seeing Chilena, he approached her and grunted, "You dat Apple-gang's sister, ain't you? Tell him to watch his back...an' you watch yours, like _I'm_ watchin' it, you--" The rest was unprintable...but was cut short by the sudden appearance of the Principal, Mrs. Lewiston.

"Edward?"

As soon as he realized who had come in, Leopard Man switched to his best innocent-victim look, griping, "Mrs. Lewiston, they called me a _______ !" (He was, of course, mentioning the N-word.)

"That's a lie! They didn't!" shouted Sammy Ashford, who for this particular subject had the valuable credibility of being equally black as Leopard Man.

"Mrs. Lewiston" said Brendan standing up. "Please believe me, you know from our talk yesterday, about fighting, I have kept my word. Ed, is not being honest at all. He walked in and was threatening Chilena about her brother Alipang. It was completely unprovoked".

" Well I don't know for sure if they ever go out on a date, but if they do she be happy," she told him, with a smile

Jen respected Brendan for standing up for the rest of them. She looked at Mrs. Lewiston expectantly.

" Well I don't know for sure if they ever go out on a date, but if they do she be happy," she told him, with a smile

"Hopefully," Dan said

"No doubt you _imagined_ you heard that word, Edward," said Mrs. Lewiston sympathetically. "I'm sure you've heard it so many times in your life, it rings in your ears. But these young people didn't say it to you."

"Mrs. Lewiston, HE says that word HIMSELF to other black folks!" exclaimed Sammy, figuring he was in it now anyway. "He called ME that the first morning of school!"

Alipang suddenly was there again, in his uncanny way. "Excuse me, Mrs. Lewiston?" Getting her attention--and that of Leopard Man, who involuntarily flinched in fear--Alipang held up his cellphone. "If you'll give me a second, I'll call up the picture I took of this guy _robbing_ Sammy just yesterday morning."

" What about my brother?," she asked, getting closer to Dan " Wh-who are you any way?," she asked, looking at the princeal with a worry look.

ooc: Woot. Teamwork. ;)

Jen smiled back up at Brendan, but was still frightened. What if this guy was going to beat someone up after the principal left?

As if answering Jen's unasked question, Brendan walked to stand behind Ed, to make sure he didn't try anything.

Alipang silently thanked God for his picture-taking phone. Soon he was showing the Principal a very clear picture of Leopard Man actually taking money from Sammy. When she had seen enough, Alipang added, "Ma'am, do you remember the knife I turned in that morning? It was actually dropped by Mannering himself when I, um, startled him; if you look closely, you can see the same knife in his hand in the picture."

The woman looked sharply at Alipang. "Why didn't you tell me everything at the time?"

With a perfect straight face, Alipang said, "Because I didn't wish to perpetuate racial stereotypes."
