As if answering Jen's unasked question, Brendan walked to stand behind Ed, to make sure he didn't try anything.

Jen sighed in relief. At least now no one would be doing anything stupid. And Alipang just showed him the picture from his phone; evidence!

Alipang silently thanked God for his picture-taking phone. Soon he was showing the Principal a very clear picture of Leopard Man actually taking money from Sammy. When she had seen enough, Alipang added, "Ma'am, do you remember the knife I turned in that morning? It was actually dropped by Mannering himself when I, um, startled him; if you look closely, you can see the same knife in his hand in the picture."

The woman looked sharply at Alipang. "Why didn't you tell me everything at the time?"

With a perfect straight face, Alipang said, "Because I didn't wish to perpetuate racial stereotypes."

With Mrs. Lewiston's back turned to him, he smiled at Alipang.

>> Jen smiled back up at Brendan, but was still frightened. What if
>> this guy was going to beat someone up after the principal left?

Seeing Jennifer's worried look, Alipang quickly told Chilena in Tagalog, "Please tell her not to be afraid of this creep; I can squash him like a grape, and he knows I can."

Mrs. Lewiston shook her head gravely. "Oh, Edward, I am disappointed in you. I thought you had made more progress in your counselling, than to choose this unproductive means of self-realization."

Alipang, understanding exactly why Brendan had taken his present stance, gave him an inconspicuous thumbs-up sign.

Brendan nodded towards Alipang.

She nodded " He knows what he doing," she told her, putting Dan's arms around her " When he leaves I need to go to work," she told him.

"You are going to have to undergo more in-depth counselling, Edward," said the Principal. "Come to my office now, and we'll make the arrangements."

At this point, Sammy Ashford could not hold back one more interjection. With beautifully understated sarcasm, he said to Mrs. Lewiston, "Why, YES, Mrs. Lewiston, I did get my money back. And thank you so much for ASKING about that."

After hearing this last statement, Brendan made a pretentious face. He feared that Ashford might have it in for him. Maybe she'll dismiss the careless remark..hopefully.

He looked towards Jen, he saw that she was a bit shaky, but she was alright. Good, he thought.

Jen met his glance and forced a smile

Edward, alias Leopard man, began tamely following the Principal away. He tried to salvage some shred of machismo by glaring over his shoulder at Sammy--but his glare was met by meaningful glances from both Alipang and Brendan.

When the troublemaker and his enabler were gone, Alipang said to his sister, "This man needs to be taught the Ambush Hug!"--and he bearhugged Brendan.
