Meanwhile, Mr. Kramer said to Brendan in English, "First, work on your physical fitness beginning yesterday. Second, develop good academic habits, because they apply to military training. Third, meet with a recruiter to find out the most current conditions. Fourth and most important, begin seeking God's will."

"Thanks. What would you say of your experiences? Was it worth it in the end?"

" I know you love me Al; I-I can't stand you getting hurt, this is too much for me," she told him, in their language.

"Then you know how * I * would feel if YOU got hurt, sweets," Alipang said to Chilena, unconsciously reverting to English. "When you ran up to Dan just after he got shoved, I was horribly afraid that Rocknose would hurt you before I got his attention diverted to me. If he had hurt you, I would have killed him. And all Kim could think of was to scold ME! But honey, I have to get back to work now. Try to enjoy being with Dan, he's a good guy. I love you, Chil-Chil."

Mr. Kramer told Brendan: "Yes. It's worth it. Because you get to have an idea what would have happened in the world if you hadn't been there where they sent you."

"Thanks Mr. Kramer." Brendan took that as a satisfactory answer, and eliminated almost any doubt of his pursuit of it as a possible profession.

Alipang went back to work, which included seeing what Brendan would like. At one point, Mr. Kramer spoke to Alipang--in Tagalog; he was proficient in four languages besides English. "Son, you're carrying now, aren't you?"

Alipang nodded, wondering if this was merely a reasonable inference on the anti-terrorist veteran's part, or if there was something Mr. Kramer could "read" about a person. They both knew that balisong knives were legal in the Commonwealth of Virginia. "But surely you know I'm not _looking_ to bloody it."

"Of course not. You just realize what I do: that evil is never satisfied. The punks might want to have more fun with you while you're slowed down. Why do you think _I'm_ here tonight? It isn't _only_ because the food's great. And I'm carrying, too--a proper .45 in a shoulder holster. That's just between us."

Respectfully, waiting the dialogue out, Brendan said to Alipang, "whats the spiciest thing on your menu?"

Two young African-Americans whom Sarah had seen around town before came into view: a fourteen-year-old boy named Tyrone and his eleven-year-old sister Lacey. Sarah had heard something about both of them taking classes together at what, as far as she knew, was Smoky Lake's only martial-arts school.

"Hey, Sarah, how you doin'?" Lacey called out. Her brother merely nodded; he wasn't unfriendly, but he didn't talk much; some said he had a speech impediment.

Meanwhile, at the Pansit Paradise, Alipang had Aunt Carmen come out and give Brendan a sample of a fiery Indian-style curry which wasn't on the regular menu, but which she sometimes made for her husband.

Meanwhile, at the Pansit Paradise, Alipang had Aunt Carmen come out and give Brendan a sample of a fiery Indian-style curry which wasn't on the regular menu, but which she sometimes made for her husband.

Completely lovin' this sample, Brendan replied smiling, "I'll take one of this, please, and thanks"

"Hi Lacey, hi, Tyrone" Sarah said smiling.

As an example of RP tactics, A-M, at this point you yourself can take over control of Tyrone and Lacey, and make them bring up some subject of _your_ choosing. Say, they ask you something about your hobbies; then as you answer them, you will be giving readers knowledge of your character--and at this point, you _don't_ need to know what _other_ characters are up to.

Aunt Carmen soon had a bowl of the curry on Brendan's table from the already-existing batch; Uncle Rafael didn't mind. "Want some ice cream to follow to relieve the scorch?" asked Alipang.

"Uh sure, thanks. Vanilla would be fine." Brendan then turned to enjoying his curry, very much. Taking a break inbetween bites to give his mouth and stomach a break from the heat. but he was loving it.

OOC: I will be away from this computer for much of tomorrow. Not only will I be going to church, but the church I go to will require some driving to: it's the home church of a TDL member whom I will meet in person for the first time ever!

Y'all can keep this running without me for that time. Alipang will be forced into the background for awhile due to his injuries. If there is a _huge_ emergency, he will still try to help; but though he is _not_ totally helpless, others like Brendan and Mr. Kramer will inevitably be able to respond quicker than he. NightcrawlerFan logged off without creating any emergency for her part.

This thread needs to get moving into Thursday--with which, there should be talk among characters about the soon-coming city Labor Day picnic at the lake. Thursday afternoon is when Dayhawk definitely stated that her character Kim would start work at the Filipino restaurant; if she says nothing otherwise, the default assumption is that she does go to work.

"I'm going to explore around a bit." Mandy said over the phone to her mum.

"Alright. Remeber to be home before midnight."

"Right. Bye, mum." She hung up the phone and picked up her backpack. Heading outside of her home she smiled at the city. She had lived there for near a month and hardly even knew the way to the store.

It was strange going from a full sized house in Centerbury, England to a flat in Smoky Lake, Virginia. It was a fair bit of money just to buy the things she used to get everyday such as the ever so wonderful jelly babies. She used to buy them near every day but none of the sweet shops sold them in Verginia.

As she walkede through town she noticed a place called Pansit Paradise. "Hello." She said softly, walking inside with curiosity. She swung her backpack off her shoulders and looked around. She was glad that the fahsion in America wasn't really different than Britain. Her own coordinated white clothes, pants and jacket, didn't stand out much. Her black boots and scarf made her look not quite as blindingly white.

A reasonably attractive thirty-something Filipino waitress named Maria greeted and seated the British girl. Nearby, a teenage boy waiter, also Filipino, was keeping several customers taken care of, though he looked as if something was making him uncomfortable.

"Are you familiar with Filipino food?" asked Maria.

" I don't know," she told him, looking down at her hands.

then the waiter came up to them " Can I get you two something to drink?," he asked, with a smile.
