Another tidbit....
Yes..I know..but it's my main story....
I sat on a log by the fire in the lower pasture, my hands cupped around a mug of hot chocolate. I looked towards Joe who was playing football with my brothers, and his friends. I smiled as Joe fell into the snow holding on to the football, with Lucas and Jonah on top of him. I took a sip of my cocoa, looking over the brim of my cup at the pile of boys. I heard Joe's familiar laugh as he shoved the other two boys off of him, they all three stood, brushed the snow off of themselves, and resumed playing. I watched them fight over the ball while I drank my beverage. I looked into the fire, warm and blazing infront of me.
"Is the fire that interesting?" I jumped at the noise.
"Oh, you scared me." I looked over at Joe, who had sat down beside of me.
"Sorry, love." Joe apologized with a laugh. He slipped his arm around my waist, and planted a small kiss on my lips. "Did you put caramel in your drink?" He asked.
"No, why?" I looked down at my hot chocolate, then back up at Joe.
"Because you still taste like it." Joe replied, before pressing his lips against mine again.
"I'm sorry." I set my cup down on the ground.
"No, don't apologize. I don't mind, at all." Joe told me, his smile showing the dimple in his right cheek.
"I didn't think so." I smiled back at him. "Is the game over?" I asked him looking towards where the football game had been going on.
"We decided to take a break, and warm up." Joe pulled me closer to him, his smile stretching farther up his face.
"Easy, Joe, we are only taking a break. We're not quitting the game." Lucas spoke teasingly to Joe. He sat on the other side of the fire with Jonah.
"Shut up. You wouldn't be saying anything if Josey were here." Joe retorded, making a face at his friend.
I giggled. "Joseph." I whispered his name, I waited for him to look down at me, before kissing him on the mouth.
"OK, that's good enough. Let's go lover boy." Lucas, who had walked over to where we sat, pulled at Joe's coat.
Joe squeezed my hand before standing and following his friends.
"Dude, cool it." Lucas shoved at Joe's shoulder as they walked to the field. "You have a few more months before you marry that beauty, don't go too far now."
"I'm not planning on it." Joe told him. "But sometimes it's hard." He added.
"I can tell." Lucas shook his head. "Now catch." He held up the football he had in his hand......
And another....JPoV (Joe's Point of View)
*Joe*
I sat in a chair by Kandie's bed. Kandie lie asleep on her bed with a temperature, blankets were piled on top of her. I was beginning to worry about her, she got sick often. Much too often. I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees, letting my head fall into my hands. I listened to my girlfriend breath, and cough every once in a while, in her sleep. Her being sick didn't make me feel any better about being gone away from her in the military. I loved being in the Army, and I didn't like being away from Kandie as much as I was, but it was a choice I had made that I couldn't, and didn't, want to get out of. The only way I could keep Kandie with me while I was on base was to marry her but I couldn't do that. I was only eighteen years-old, and she only seventeen.
"Joseph."
I looked up at the sound of my name. Kandie was still asleep on her bed, she turned her head back and forth. "Joseph." She whispered again. I leaned over towards her.
"Kandie." I touched her shoulder. "Katherine, baby." I shook the girl as she muttered my name for the third time. "Baby, wake up." Kandie's eyes blinked open, her breathing was uneven. "Are you all right? You were talking in your sleep, honey." I placed my hand on the top of her head.
"A dream, Joe." Kandie said, looking up with me. "You were gone, and...and not coming back." She had tears in her eyes.
"Aw, honey, it's OK, I'm right here don't worry." I sat down on the side of her bed. "Go back to sleep, love. I'll be right here, I won't leave...for a while." I leaned down and kissed her forehead.
"Promise me, Joseph." Kandie whispered.
She was so sick she couldn't speak above a whisper, it hurt my heart. "I promise you, I'll stay here." I told her smiling. "Sleep, you need to get better." I waited until she closed her eyes, before again taking my seat in the chair.
