Mod Q&A Thread II

THat's different. A member who is 12 or 13 doesn't always have the same maturity as a 30 year old adult. and that's not an insult or a slam; it's just a fact because kids don't have maturity when they're young. It comes with experience and time. But an adult shouldn't throw any kind of hissy-fit in public; it makes them look immature and petty, IMO.

It's amazing what young people say while still young....and how much they're willing to take it back when they're older.

Keep in mind that the mods are human, just like you are. Everyone has good days and bad days. People say things from time to time that they shouldn't in general. It happens. I'm not sure what was said that upset you at present. Feedback is good. Keep in mind that the mods deal with a lot as well as far as attitudes go. If you knew 1/3 of what we hear in PMs you might be shocked. On occasion we might have to apologize for stuff too. None of us are perfect. Not members and not mods. We're all works in progress.

By the way, adults loose it every now and again too. They try to hide it more than kids do, but every now and again they throw fits of one kind or another. It's part of being human. Maturity will only go so far with it. Adults attempt to not throw fits, but at times we get overwhelmed and frustrated too. When you're older there will be days you want to throw them too.

As far as the mods go, yes we have one another's backs, but we're all different people. If there's a specific mod you're upset with you might try talking to them one on one about whatever is bothering you. I'm not sure what attitude you're referring to, but by all means explain what you mean by that more. I know that in the last 2 years a lot of people have tried to push the forum in directions it was never intended to go. We've done a lot of revamping to make it stick to what Specter created it for. That's not been easy. We've tried to keep it family friendly. We try. We're not perfect. Hopefully things will get better. Your help is appreciated. Your imput is welcome.

I'm not saying that the mods are any worse than the members.

But what I am saying, is that especially in threads, things could be worded better. The post that I always have in mind frankly reeked of sarcasm and a negative attitude; and defensiveness. There was no reason for anyone to be up in arms over an aspect of their religion; if someone got a fact wrong, yell at them in a PM instead of airing it on the forum.

Since mine was the post made, and I've pretty much kept out of the discussion, i figure it's about time I stepped in and clarified a few things.

Look, Aravis, just because you didn't like what was said doesn't make it a bad thing to have done. It was not a casual, abusive post, and neither was it made impetuously. It was very deliberate and extremely accurate. The terms I used were not intended to insult or denigrate, but as precise technical descriptors of a situation, and I used them for a very particular purpose.

We mods have to consider many factors when dealing with members, particularly newer ones. We have to balance the good of particular members against the good of other forum participants. We have to draw upon years of experience, and when we make decisions, we use the best judgment we can to try to do the best possible for all parties. And as ITW points out, sometimes we err - but in this particular case, I don't think I did. I neither apologize nor rescind the statements I made, for they're just as technically accurate now as they were the day I made them.

The older you get, the more you'll learn (I hope) that "niceness" is not the greatest virtue. Charity and courtesy are - but sometimes charity and courtesy need to speak with a gruff voice. I knew what I was doing when I made those posts, and if I have to, I'll do it again.

I'd like to mention that the birthday calendar is off....I was checking it out yesterday and today, and yesterday it said I was going to turn 15 on my birthday, and today I realized that the 2009 hasn't been put up.

I know it's possible for someone to be given mod powers in a specific forum only (that is, the Squires), but is it possible for a member to be given mod powers in a specific thread only? I was thinking such a feature, if in existence, might be useful for the leaders of the Mafia games.

Here you go:

No, no! Force not your evil and mind-controlling confections upon me! For I am innocent, innocent, I say, as pure as the clear light of dawn, and no stain of guilt is upon me! Your mind-controlling morsels will not tempt me to allow myself to be drawn under the sway of your evil ways!
