Nessa's photoshop secrets

*Bump topic*

I'll learn you how to make dark images brighter.

1. Open an image which is pretty dark.
2. duplicate this image because we always want to keep our original pic
3. Add a curves layer
4. Click in the middle of the curves layer and when you go up, your image will be light and when you go down your image will get dark. Choose which option will make you happy.
5. Press ctrl + I or command + I (for the mac :D)
6. Select a brush and make sure your foreground color is white
7. Paint on the dark areas and you will see your pic is going to get much more brighter!

An easy step to make your pic fading in the background. Note: You must make sure the background you are going to use is not filled with all kinds of different colors. A neutral color works the best.

1. Open the pic you want to use
2. Add this pic onto your background
3. Add a layer mask
4. Make sure the fore and background colors are standard
5. Click on gradient bucket
6. Select lineair gradient or radial gradient
7. Make sure you choose from black to white
8. Now draw straight from the bottom to the top. Vertical and not horizontal or diagonal.
9. Your pic must be faded into the background.

Remember....this is a quick help. It works best when both pic and background are a bit the same colored. It's absolutely not a perfect solution but it certainly is a big help.

Great tuts,Vanessa!!!!:D

Do you happen to have one that would fix a faded photo, please?
I like to make graphics from old movies and of old photographs, and I have one I love, but its very faded and worn with age.Any ideas?:)

You could use the clone or repair tool. To undo the fading effect you could add a sharpen mask. I will look it up for you because there are many ways to fix old photo's. I love old pics!

Thanks!I haven't figured out the clone tool yet,but I do know the sharpen mask.:)

I know how to add realistic fire to pics and text so I tried it out on my fav Eric Lindros. This is the result:

And I made a special effect wally with the same Lindros but now I added him on the titanic and made it like the cover of a book:

Thanks! Well, this is a very nice trick to do. I'm going to teach how to make a close-up of a face with a bit of radial blur.
1. Open a pic you like (in my case I used a pic of the face of Eric Lindros :D)
2. Duplicate it
3. Grab the crop tool
4. Make a selection with the crop tool around the eyes part.
5. Crop it
6. Now grab your elliptical selection tool
7. Make a selection around the eyes. You can select one eye and then hold shift and make a selection around the other eye. Now both eyes are selected.
8. Go to Select > Inverse
9. Select Filter > Blur > Radial Blur
10. Choose Zoom and Good (Best is a bit too much)
11. Repeat step 10 two or three more times
12. Go to Select > Modify > Feather and choose 6 px
13. You're done!

Edit: I only used the crop tool for the eyes part. If you don't want to o this effect on the eyes you can also use the selection tool as long as you inverse after the selection!!!!

You can do this also with other pics. You don't have to choose the eyes. You can select a part in a pic which you don't want to be effected by the blur tool. If you've selected a part you must make sure you use inverse otherwise the selection will be blurred. And it's necessary not to use Best otherwise the selection won't look naturally anymore.

^!Thanks for the tips!:D

Hmm..I wonder if "motion blur" would also work..because I see that in Gimp, but not "radial blur"....*scratches head*

Yes, motion blur will do the same trick. No problem. I have tried it out with both motion blur and radial blur but the only difference is motion blur makes another kinda effect.

Here is an example I did with only selecting the eyes with the round marque tool. I didn't crop anything but I only made a selection around the eyes and upper part of the nose. In this example I didn't use Eric but Joe Sakic of the Colorado Avalanche (In case you wonder...who is he???? :D)

Spooky effect.
You can make a funny spooky effect when you desaturate a pic whichs makes the pic black and white but when you leave the eyes untouched. A large pic or a pic where the eyes are very clear will be perfect!
This is very easy to do.

1. Open a pic
2. Duplicate the pic (it's highly needed for the eyes)
3. Desaturate the pic (Image > Adjustments > desaturate)
4. Select your eraser tool and choose a soft brush
5. Erase the eyes so the original color of the eyes will come through
6. You're done!

You can also select the eyes before you desaturate the pic. This will make the erase part unnecessary. But when you do this you must inverse the selection before you do the desaturation!

And of course I'm still a LOTR freak and I have worked on my beloved hobbits.
On the left you'll see the original pic.

And on the right is what I did with the same pic. I used many different techniques to make it more a fantasy pic. Dreamy hobbits :D
Click both pics to enlarge.
