I can't believe why any one of you would like the new Willy Wonka movie. Are you all insane?!!! Johnny Depp is in no comparision to the other man...What's his name, again?.....Anyway, how you could like that white-faced actor I can't imagine. He's extremly creepy, not to mention his "Willy Wonka" theme song. You know they came out with a toy of him that moves, speaks, etc., but it's $40.00!!! WHAT KID WOULD WANT THAT THING?!!! 
I could say the same thing about the first one. Firstly it is a musical. Secondly, it doesn't really follow the book all that much, Hence Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory versus Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Thirdly, Depp is sooo much better in this role than Gene Wilder. Willy Wonka is supposed to be a strange reclusive man who doesn't like people. Gene Wilder looked like he liked everyone to much. Depp didn't.
LOL! My kids love Johnny Depp! (I do, too.) They would die for a talking Depp figurine. They couldn't stop saying, "Heh - you're weird!" for about a week after the movie. Gene Wilder was a great Wonka, but Monkeh is right, this new movie is based on the book, not on the old movie. I think it worked well.
Well they way Gene Wylder greeted the kids was alot closer to the book. Willy Wonka was supposed to be a nice man and he was also crazy. A mixture of both Gene Wylder and JOhnny Depp would be totally awesome!Monkeh said:

I never thought Gene Wylder acted like he liked people. That's part of the reason I hated that movie. I didn' think the guy in to book was very nice either, but I read that years ago.

Sorry, Monkeh and Inkspot, I still have to disagree with you both. The new Willy Wonka movie just doesn't seem to match the lighter, funnier mood of the first. I can't believe why your kids liked the new movie so much, Inkspot. Yes, Johnny Depp is a fairly 'intresting' actor to watch, but he isn't the right person for Willy Wonka.
