We will assume there's been time for Alipang to get home and eat.

Summer looked at the clock. It was still early enough to call Alipang. Picking up her phone she dialed Alipang's number.

Eric answered the ring. "Havens residence, Dr. Havens speaking....Oh, Summer! You want to talk to Alipang? I'll get him." A moment later, Alipang was on the phone; his not feeling any need to talk out of his parents' hearing attested that his romantic longings had not been transferred away from Kim Tisdale.

Eric Havens led Chilena away from where Alipang was still on the phone with his friend Summer. "What is it, sweetheart? Worried about your boyfriend's health?"

The gist of Summer's phone call was that her Dad, while greatly loving to hear Grant sing, still liked Alipang too and hoped he still would visit also. Tomorrow promising to be swamped with activity, Alipang said he would come over tonight. In very short order, he was walking briskly to Summer's house; though his ribcage prohibited him from running, he still made it to his destination soon enough.

He suddenly hoped that Summer's mother wasn't attempting to set him up with her daughter. He could in fact have easily felt "that way" about Summer if he hadn't become fixated on Kim; but he WAS now fixated on Kim. This, however, did not mean that he intended to drop his friendship with Summer.

"What happens when two mind-readers meet on the street? One will say to the other, 'Hello, _you're_ fine, how am I?' " This was one of the latest series of jokes Alipang told to Summer's Dad, who seemed to understand them all. { N-Fan hasn't been posting, so I'll assume Summer is pleased. Fast-forward now to Alipang returning home after dark. }

There was a knock on Chilena's door. "Sis, you up?"

Once in the room with the door shut, Alipang sat on Chilena's study chair and said, "I need to get back to work! Not _only_ because it's the only way to be with Kim outside school and church, but also because I want to earn money! I was figuring I'd ask Uncle Rafael [not literal uncle--CF] to let me work setup in the kitchen: you know, preparing salads, wrapping napkins around silverware. That shouldn't hurt my rib. What do you think, sweets?"

She was sitting on the floor beside the chair he was on. "You want your chair back?" he asked casually, while the one of his hands which was nearer to her caressed her blonde hair as a natural reflex.

"Yes, she and her mother are both delighted that Mr. Heron is getting some attention. He loved Grant's singing too, when Grant was there."

"Here, now, Chil-Chil, something else I've been working on is my introductory speech for the Escrima demonstration tomorrow. How do you like this part--?

" 'For some people, the martial arts are equated in their minds with occultism and sorcery. Of these people, half are frightened or angry, while the other half are attracted for the wrong reasons. But the Escrimador doesn't claim to be a super-mystic who can fly like the 'Crouching Tiger' characters; Escrima is a practical fighting system, with no demonic strings attached. In Shakespeare's phrase, 'We are but warriors for the working day.' "

"That 'warriors' quote was from 'Henry the Fifth,' by the way. Spoken just before the Battle of Agincourt." Alipang said that to fill a moment of time, because--although he knew WHAT moods Chilena was accustomed to having--he never knew from one minute to the next WHICH mood was coming up.
