"that's so cool!" Erin exclaimed," I'll be doing a demonstration on my snake, Sky. Here she is in this carrier, she's really friendly, and I think that the kids will love her!"

"whoops," Erin laughed at herself, "here I go talking about my snake and I haven't even introduced myself! my name is Erin Conrad! what's your name?"

Erin smiled, "nice to meet you, Suri! do you like other animals? I have a regular zoo at my house so you're free to come over and say hi to any of my dogs, cats, birds, reptiles... Anyways, I gotta go set up for the demonstration, I think it starts soon! See you around, Suri!"

An open-topped convertible drove past Suri with its radio playing. A voice was saying something about "broadcasting live all day from Lakeshore Park"--which Suri knew from other students was the name of the park where the city picnic was to be held.

Meanwhile, Alipang tracked Chilena to the thinking tree again. Seeing her there, he said simply, "It's okay if you really want to be alone here, sweets. Our visit here last evening was too short for my taste, but I can find other things to do if you want to be alone. I just need to know you're okay, because I love you."

Erin laughed, "well, maybe not a REAL zoo with all the wild animals, but I have more animals than most people consider sane!" Erin started walking towards the arranged chairs near where the event was going to be held. "Do you want to help me out a bit, Suri? you can help me carry stuff, and maybe you'll see something worthwhile to take a picture of!"

Erin smiled, "well, you could help by carrying this box of snake treats." Erin smiled mischievously, "I don't think you want to know what KIND of snake treats..."

Pastor Tom Stetzer of Redemption Free Church (white), his wife Isobel (black), and their church secretary Kwai (Chinese) were walking past, each leading two special-needs children by the hand. Kwai was saying to the youngsters, "The track is right over this way. I know all of you are going to run like the WIND..."

She looked up at him " No, you fine Al I'm just thinking Dan called and he told me he out of town right now," she told him.

Suri replied with a tembling voice "uuhhh... snake treates, uhhh... perhaps not" Suri tooked the box and took it where Erin said

Erin laughed," its ok Suri, I won't tell you what they are, unless, of course, the kids ask me what they are, then you'll have to hear my answer!"
Erin called out to Pastor Tom," Hiya, Pastor! I was just wondering when I would be doing my demonstration for the picnic!"

Alipang sat on the ground beside Chilena, noting that they had been on this exact spot yesterday evening. "Did he say where he was going? To spend time with his Dad, maybe?"

Alipang didn't touch her, she didn't seem to be at the wanting-comfort stage yet. "Maybe he didn't say, just because it WASN'T anything dramatic....AND he feels a sense of mutual trust already between himself and you."

Meanwhile, Master Pitik Imada was inspecting the stage where his Escrima students would hold their demonstration in the afteroon. Seeing Erin, he came to greet her. "Good morning, Miss Conrad! I understand you and your boa are going on right after us! And who's your NON-reptile friend?"

Alipang slid up hip-to-hip with Chilena, but did not yet hug her, just letting her keep her grip on his thumb.

"Photographer!" exclaimed Master Pitik. "That's right! That's what I was forgetting! I was so worried about my top student being hospitalized last week, I didn't confirm a photographer for the demonstration! There'll be a newspaper photographer around, of course, but I can't ask him to concentrate on our--Suri, if I pay you fifty dollars, will you photograph our martial-arts exhibition?"
