Peepiceek's Odd-One-Out Quiz

You've made it way more complicated than I intended, but you've more-or-less got it in passing. The White Stag is the odd one out, since all the others refer to animals that have another name (Aslan, Shift and Farsight) whereas the White Stag doesn't have a name.

We still need answers to #33 and #34

#33.
(a) lion
(b) satyr
(c) wolf
(d) squirrel

#34.
(a) An invitation to strike a bell
(b) An invitation to enter a garden
(c) The Deep Magic
(d) The third sign
Here's a new one too:

#36.
(a) Mrs Lefay
(b) Mrs Macready
(c) Mrs Pevensie
(d) Mrs Plummer
(The answer is not that Mrs Macready is the only one to say anything in any of the books, although that is true. I have something else in mind.)

(b) An invitation to enter a garden

(d) The third sign

second attempt at this...changing my answer to C because its the only one which although part of it was written on the stone table, it wasn't a specific instruction so much as the others were. The invitation to strike the bell was very clear was they could read it. So also was the invitation sign to enter the garden. And once Jill saw the sign...they all realized what needed to be done.

I see your thinking, but that wouldn't really explain why I chose the Deep Magic rather than some other thing. What's significant is where and how they were written.

a) could be the odd one out as it was the only warning not given by Aslan or integral to what Aslan created. The bell warning was done by Jadis.

#36.
(a) Mrs Lefay
(b) Mrs Macready
(c) Mrs Pevensie
(d) Mrs Plummer

a) Ms. Lefay was a godmother while the others were mothers.

15A
1. Wardrobe
2. Ring
3. Gate
4. Painting

I would say 2. The other three were entrances into the Narnia realm, while the rings served as an entrance to the Wood Between the Worlds.

I think the wardrobe, gate and picture are things that people went through to get to Narnia, while the rings were used in order to transport them, but I still go for ring as the odd one out.

Mrs Macready was not, as far as we are told, a mother.

#34, I suppose your answer is correct, MrBob, but it isn't what I had in mind. It is not about who wrote them or what they said, but about how. Lionsmane had the beginnings of a right answer with this

but then went off in the wrong direction and missed the key detail.

Aah, I forgot about MacReady. I was thinking about someone else.

And tirian got it correct for mine. While Peep was also technically correct, tirian picked it for the right reason.

16A

1) Frank Jr
2) Peter
3) Cor
4) Rillian

Apart from the fact that I made up the name of Frank Jr (son of King Frank I)and that Peter was born in England, which is the odd one out? Also, where they reigned is not relevant.

Well, one possibility is that 1, 3 and 4 were born to kingship, while Peter was appointed to it.

I also note that Cor and Rilian went missing for a long time, though I can't see how Frank and Peter would fit into that. Is that relevant?

This one is a challenge: who's the odd person out of this list, and why?

  1. High King Peter
  2. Jadis the White Witch
  3. Miraz the Pretender
  4. Caspian X
  5. Erlian

Ooh, give the man a cigar! Except you got the wrong odd one out. There's no record of Miraz fighting giants, but Jadis did - and turned him to stone (Rumblebuffin).

Come to think of it, I should've tossed Rabadash in there for real confusion.

Your list?

tirian, you also got mine mostly. So explain to me why Edmund wasn't in that list.

PotW, Miraz did fight with one giant that we know of. Wimbleweather helped to fight against his army.

MrBob

I was thinking "fight personally", but by that argument we're not certain Peter ever took on a giant face-to-face (or Caspian, for that matter.)

I'll just have to craft my questions more carefully. Give me some time to think of a new one.

They are all the oldest children?

I am trying to compile some more of my own. I just want my riddles to reflect my understanding of the game: the odd one out is supposed to have a connection to the other three, not merely be lacking something found in the other three. Therefore I find it especially challenging, but worthwhile, and have only come up with the two I previously posted in this thread thus far.

(d) The third sign

I would say the odd one out must be (a) because it was written in Charn and, understood and followed in its entirety, destroyed Charn. The other three were written in Narnia and, when understood and followed in their entirety, safeguarded Narnia. Digory entered the garden and retrieved the apple, which was used to plant the Tree of Protection. Appeasing the deep magic through Aslan's death prevented Narnia from perishing in fire and water. Following the third sign led Jill, Eustace and Puddleglum underground to Rillian, where they were able to foil the Witch's plot against Narnia.
