Peepiceek's Odd-One-Out Quiz

In 5B, all of these things came from our world and ended up staying in Narnia. Frank and Helen were the only ones that stayed on purpose (if that is the right way to say it). They were called for by Aslan to live there, while the other things and people just blundered in or were left there by accident! B is the odd one out.

You have correctly identified what these things have in common, but you've provided the wrong discrepancy, and hence, the wrong odd one out.

What about all of the others were brought into Narnia, but the Telmarines are the odd ones out because they got there on their own power? (sort of--they blundered in, but they walked on their own!)

5B
The odd one out = Telmarines because they were allowed to return to Earth, whereas the coats, torch, and King Frank and Queen Helen never left Narnia.

Is Jadis the odd one out because she did not have a drop of human blood in her while these other peoples did, either because they came from Earth, or because they were somehow descendants of King Frank and Queen Helen?

6B
A. The Lone Islanders
B. The Telmarines
C. The Calormenes
D. Jadis

I'll say the Lone Islanders. The other three made war with Narnia while the Lone Islandsers were given to Narnia after a battle.

MrBob

Close enough. The other three conquered Narnia at one point or another: Jadis prior to the Golden Age, the Telmarines a millenium later, and the Calormenes at the end of Narnia's age. The Lone Islanders, on the other hand, gave themselves freely to Narnia's dominion.

Taking a stab at these...
#33.
(a) lion
(b) satyr
(c) wolf
(d) squirrel

the odd one out is the satyr because it is mythological while the others are real animals.

#36.
(a) Mrs Lefay
(b) Mrs Macready
(c) Mrs Pevensie
(d) Mrs Plummer

Mrs Macready because she is the only one who is not the mother or grandmother of one of the characters in the books.

No, sorry - that would be far too obvious. It needs to relate to something in the Chronicles.

36.
(a) Mrs Lefay

(c) Mrs Pevensie
(d) Mrs Plummer

Mrs Macready because she is the only one who is not the mother or grandmother of one of the characters in the books.
Mrs Lefay isn't either. It's not about their relationships to anyone else. The only clue I can give without giving the answer away completely is to say that it has something to do with the names themselves.

All but the wolf were turned to stone, but Edmund mistook a wolf for a stone statue when he was trying to enter the White Witch's castle.

Right thinking, wrong wolf - and, consequently, wrong answer. (That had initially been the answer in my mind when I started writing #33, but then I checked in LWW ch 9 and realised that answer would be open to challenge, so I went with a variation on that theme instead.)

I still haven't figured your two out Peeps. I wish I could. In the meantime, here are two new ones:

7B
A. Rabadash
B. Mr. Tumnus
C. Lord Restimar
D. Eustace

8B
A. Narnia
B. Aslan's Country
C. Prince Rilian
D. White Stag

This must be C. The others were all changed back into their normal form, wherea Lord Restimar remained a gold statue.

8B
A. Narnia
B. Aslan's Country
C. Prince Rilian
D. White Stag
Not sure, but I'm thinking the link is things people are hunting for (in HHB, VDT, TSC and LWW respectively), but they know where Narnia is, while the others they don't know exactly, so A is the odd one out. Alternatively, Narnia is in the North, Aslan's Country in the East, Prince Rilian in the North, but the White Stag not in any set direction, so that D is the odd one out.

Anywhere close?

Peeps

Good job. For 8B the odd one out is D. While they are all sought by main characters, the White Stag is the only one they never get to.

As for yours, I have no idea what the names have in common?! They all have the letter "e" in them, but Mrs Pevensie has three "e's" so is that the odd one out? Just kidding of course, but I see no link. Err!

Correct!

Well, half-right. It is Mrs Pevensie, but it won't surprise you to learn that it is not for the reason you gave. I'll give you a couple more days to work out the right reason. Hint: find where they are mentioned in the books.

Should I reveal the stone statues one as well? Benisse was so close, but it just needs a careful reading of LWW ch 9 to get the answer.

Peeps

Ok, I'm going to reveal these, since no-one has managed to get them. I've put them in invisible text - highlight the gaps below in order to read the answers.

#33.
(a) lion
(b) satyr
(c) wolf
(d) squirrel

The answer is (d) squirrel. Edmund saw a stone lion, a stone satyr and a stone wolf in the Witch's courtyard, but the squirrels were turned to stone outside the Witch's house.

#36.
(a) Mrs Lefay
(b) Mrs Macready
(c) Mrs Pevensie
(d) Mrs Plummer

The answer is (c) Mrs Pevensie. Although all four women are mentioned in the books, Mrs Pevensie is never referred to by that name.

Here are two more new ones. I don't rate them among my best, I'm afraid, but I'm running out of material.

#37.
(a) Peter in HHB
(b) Susan in TLB
(c) Edmund in LWW
(d) Lucy in PC

#38.
(a) Digory
(b) Edmund
(c) Eustace
(d) Rilian

Well for #37, something along the line of "missing in action" stands out for each of them. Tell me I'm somewhere close, and I'll try to come up with a more specific answer.

And I suppose that for #38, you may be able to say that each character is the one tempted in some way or another, or led astray. Anywhere close?
