Prince Caspian: Ben Barnes & why is he so old?

I'm honestly not sure if Turkey's rule ever extended as far east as Kazakhstan. But besides the fact that there actually was a tribe called "Kalor" in that part of the world, it seemed to me that people accustomed to a rugged nomadic way of life would survive better in the wilderness conditions of the very early Narnian world. They would have centuries to develop an urbane culture afterward.

MrBob: either the Telmarines intermarried with prior Narnian/Archenlandish humans, or those other humans were entirely killed off or driven far away; otherwise, they might have been around to rally to Caspian sooner.

Mr. Bob has hit the nail on the head. There's no point discussing the language really be cause poor Lewis who was but a literature scholar did not have the same knowledge as Tolkein who would have known that 1,000 years passing would result in the language of narnians being as different to us as Old English is. Clearly, there must be some 'ethereal translating effect' operating for the books to make any sense in this area.

Actually, many people started at that way Kazakhs, Turks and even Bulgarian's ancient ancestors :)
About whether Turkey ruled Kazakhstan, I am not sure and can not help.
Sorry for the O/T:(

Ben Barnes

well... technically, Capsian wasn't British.. he was descended from Caribbean pirates who entered Narnia through a portal.. I wouldn't expect him to have a british accent, and if he does, well, tha's fine. I wouldn't think that he would have a Spanish accent either, but I guess I'm being too picky. But it can go both ways, I guess.

I'm not inclined to believe it yet, because, as you'll remember, there were also some other unconfirmed rumors that only two boys had been asked to return to do callbacks.. if the first (callback) rumor was true, I wouldn't expect them to narrow down the Caspian so soon.. but then, it could happen, i suppose...

I don't know.. I'm just speculating out loud...

His accent kind of sounds French in the movie. Is it confirmed yet anywhere what his accent is? I would like to know.

It is not French, I would say it's a cross between Italian (because Miraz, Sopespian, and Glozelle are all Italian) and Spanish, possibly I little bit of French and Portuguese but not much.

And to say again, Caspian's pirate relatives lived in the Pacific, not the Carribean.

This is off-topic related to the current discussion, but I HAVE to bring it up.

SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERETCYOUGETTHEPOINT
I heard that Caspian and Susan share a kiss in the movie...does anyone know if this is actually true or just a rumor?? I am extremely worried, and frankly very   :mad:SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERETCYOUGETTHEPOINT

Yah, you can see it in one of the TV commercials; it looks like Su just grabs Caspian and gives him a brief kiss, a goodbye kiss, we are speculating.

It is not just a rumor; there is a poor quality clip of it floating around online, there is a link on the Jitters thread. Here it is. I find this decision by AA and anyone else involved to signify that they are caught up in popular culture and need to take some more time researching the time periods they are working with. Just like I was able to find information that ruled out the Telmarines coming from Spanish descent very easily, any one who knows anything about the 1940's would know that even the most modern girls would not have originated a kiss. Susan does it though.

In the video clip, they could be kissing, but it's very poor quality and to me it looks like they're starting to hug. I could be just fooling myself, though. A quick good-bye kiss would be fine by me, since kings and queens are always kissing people in the fantasy stories I've read.

Also, Caspian's accent sounds pretty exotic to me, like a blend of a couple accents.

EDIT: Oh, geez, I watched it again and it's definitely lip action. *sigh* But it's in front of a lot of people. It can't be that serious at all. It could also be a cheek kiss, since it's sometimes hard to tell. Guuhhh I don't know.

on the ABC.. thread there's like to an interview with william and anna and anna talks about how there is a kissing scene.

Revives:

Now we know why Caspian is so old. They wanted romance in the book. It was planned into the script long ago. Totally ruined the story!

The kiss was an awful part for me...I was chanting 'nonononono' when S and C were looking at each other, switched to 'yesyesyesyes' when she turned away, and then back to 'NONONONONO' when S turned back the second time. GAAHH! I just wanted to throttle both of them at that point...

That's not why he is so old. They wrote the script before they actually found Ben. And if I remember right they were looking for Guys from 16 onwards or so. So even a 16 year old would have had to kiss Susan.

Nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING that happened in that Film is Ben's fault. When do you people start to understand that? He is an actor, not a script writer. So he does what the script says, he can't change it.

No one is blaming Ben. We like Ben. He seems a like able sort of man. He was just too old to play this role.

If Ben was too old with 25 why does William with his the 20 years wasn't? Why does he fit when Ben doesn't? The look the same age, that's all that matters.
