Red Roses Graphics

Thanks, amdd97! ^.^

Alright, so here's the tutorial I promised. We'll be making this:

1. For this wallie, it’s best to use images that have a plain white background or have really light backgrounds. I used this image of Ben: http://i2.listal.com/image/305865/936full-the-chronicles-of-narnia:-prince-caspian-photo.jpg

2. Open up a blank, new image on GIMP. Make sure it’s large, we’re making a wallie. ;) I usually use 1023x746 but feel free to use whatever you want.

3. Open up the image you chose, resize it so it fits the wallie but isn’t too small and then place it off to one side. Like this:

4. Duplicate Ben’s picture (or whomever you chose) and resize so it’s smaller than the original. Then take the duplicated layer and place it below the original layer and a little off to the side. Erase any of the white background on the original layer so some of the duplicated layer shows through. ONLY erase the white background.

5. Repeat step 4 as many times as you like. I only duplicated the layer 2 times. So far the wallie should look like this:

6. Now, mess with the opacity of the duplicated layer. Leave the original layer at 100% opacity. I set the middle layer to 85% and the layer on the far right to 55%. It now looks like this:

7. As you can see, the area where the second and third layers overlap is a little darker, so I used the Free Select Tool and got rid of part of the third layer that overlapped with the second. It now looks like this:

8. K, now, flatten the image.

9. Now, let’s try using a variation of that tutorial I posted a long time ago. Duplicate your image, and set it to screen, 70%.

10. Add a new layer, 89c7e9, and set it to burn, 40%.

11. Add another layer, f9c9e9, set to burn, 80%. (Btw, remember, everything I’m posting is a guide. This might not look good on your image. Experiment to see what looks best on yours!) So far, my wallie looks like this:

12. So I think Ben’s looking rather pale. Flatten your image and go into Colours>>Hue-Saturation. I set the saturation to 40. It looks like:

13. Meh, I still feel as though he’s kinda pale looking. So, Colours>>Components>>Channel Mixer.
Red: 128.9
Green: -13.3
Blue: -16.3

14. Now I added my favorite texture ever and set it multiply, 100%. Looks like:

15. Then I added this gorgeous texture I found the other night. I resized it, since it’s a little large, and set it to overlay. Now it looks like this:

16. I’m feeling pretty lazy tonight, so I’ll just wrap it up. I wrote “prince” in Vivaldi Italic Condensed and “Caspian” in Papyrus. Aaaand, you're done. ^.^

And that’s it. I’m not feeling all that creative tonight, but I’m sure you got the general gist of it. XD Btw, lemme know if anything doesn’t make sense/needs clarifying!

Btw, I'd love, love, LOVE to see your work. =)

Great tutorial...gives some more insight into coloring techniques.

What are your fav resource sites (brushes, textures, stock photos, fonts)? I'm always collecting fresh stuff from fellow designers. ;)

Hey, I love the tutorial!! I have made several wallies already, and starting to become pleased with the one Im working on right now. I just have one question. Can you post some more of your textures? Like, the bigger ones, that I could use for wallies, banners, and the like? I would appreciate it. :o

EDIT: Could you post more tutorials for Wallpapers please? :)

My most favorite site for textures if offline now. It had the most amazing textures ever. I got almost a 1000 textures from there! Here's the link, just in case the site's up and running one day. Though it says it should take about 24 hours, it's been about a year...

I've also gotten a lot of textures from the Textures thread on here. Here's the link.

I've also gotten a bunch of textures just by googling it.

Brushes! I'm always on the hunt for new brushes! Unfortunately, I can never find any good ones. You can find a bunch of them by searching them up on deviantART.

My computer already has a bunch of great fonts, so I rarely get new ones. But when I do need them, I'll just google it.

You can find a bunch of stock bases here at (ironically) Stock Bases.

Aaand, I think that's it.

Oh, wait, nope. I found an amazing site for textures the other day. Here.

I'm glad you liked it. I've seen your wallies. They look great! ;) I'll post some more wallie textures soon. And I'll try to post another tutorial. They take me a long time though and I'm pretty busy this week. I'll try though.

Um, I don't really use a lot of textures even though I have a huge collection of them. Most of them are from Color Filter and I also picked up a few from the "Textures" thread here. They're all saved on my Photobucket. I'll send you the link. ;)

So, some more stuff

Or if I might use the picture? Sig?

Wow, I forgot I'd ever made those. 0.o
Thanks. You can use it if you want. No one else is using it. Took me a while to find the picture again but here it is...

Good thing I always save the pictures I use. ;)

Thank you for the oodles of resources...very much appreciated! Any special sites for large stock photos? Or do you just google what you're looking for?
