glad to help in any way that I can
"Hey"
"Hey" Loralei replied looking up. Austins face was complelely submerged by the bright sun but by his voice she knew it was him.
He sat down next to her under the huge tree.
The tree sat comfortably in the centre of the green park. To her right she could see the playground which had swings, slides and even a tree house. To her left Loralei saw the huge circular pond that was the home to not only fishes but also swans and ducks. It was so peaceful that whenever she wanted to get away from anyone and everything she'd just come down to the park, sit under the tree and drift off.
"I missed you at lunch"
"I wasn't really hungry, sorry"
"But you had time for a muffin"
"How did you know?" she asked
'was he spying on her?'
"You've got some on your face" he replied trying not to laugh.
"Oh" she blushed slightly and quickly got her mirror out. No wander she had been getting strange looks.
"I heard you missed class today......Brianna gave me this to give to you. It's her notes" he retrieved the folder from his bag and handed it to Loralei.
"Brianna? Really?" she asked surprised.
"Yes. It's not like I could have stolen them from her" he said saracastically
"Thanks..........I'm sorry about shouting at you. I didn't mean to......" she looked down at the notes "I just haven't slept in a really long time and the last thing I want to talk about is my birthday" she admitted.
"I understand" he replied sympathetically. "I'll drop it" he looked up at the sky 'for now anyway' he thought.
"Especially after what happened last year"
"What do you mean?" he asked raising an eyebrow.
"Oh it's nothing." she quickly replied. She hadn't meant to say that out loud.
"Well I better get going".
Austin stood up and helped her up. "But we're good?"
"Yeah. See you tomorrow". They parted ways.
She was still holding the folder in her hand. She glanced at it as she walked.
'Brianna.....why?' she thought when she bumped into a runner.
"Sorry"
"It's okay" he replied.
Loralei looked up immediately. That voice was all too familiar. She was dissappointed. The guy that she had run into had dark brown hair, brown eyes and a moustache.
"Sorry again". Her face saddened and she kept walking. Her necklase lit up.
He glanced back
'always apologising' he thought. He turned back around and carried on running.
She decided to walk the longer way home. It was still bright outside and dinner wouldn't be ready until late anyway. Loralei stopped when she got to the bank though. She stood infront of it just staring inside through the window. Another flashback but this one wasn't as nice as the others.
"Yes.......no way.......that can't be true" the woman behind Loralei had been talking on her cell for the past 20 minutes that she had been in the line.
"Mommy I'm hungry"
"Just a minute darling. Let mommy just get some money out"
"I'm hungry.........I'm hungry"
Loralei watched the little girl tag at her mothers dress continuously. She stopped, looked at Loralei and carried on pulling.
"Next please" the que moved forward slightly. She had been waiting in line for 30 minutes. Her cell rang.
"Hello"
"Hey Lor, it's me"
"Hey Tristan"
"Where are you? We were supposed to meet 20 minutes ago"
"Yeah, sorry but I'm at the bank and there is a major hold up at the que. I shouldn't be that much longer. I'm sure you can wait"
He laughed slightly "I'm getting hungry and the waitress is getting a little impatient. Why don't you just make yourself invincible and skip the que?" he joked.
"You know I can't do that. But I'll hurry over as soon as I'm done" she replied.
'You can do a lot more than you think' he thought "Okay. I'll see you in a bit"
She smiled "okay. Bye". Whenever she spoke to Tristan it made her all tingly inside. It had been 6 months since they had started dating. Loralei had been nervous about the whole thing. Tristan was her first official boyfriend but her parents had loved him so she knew she was with the right guy. She felt like she could be her true self around Tristan but sometimes it felt like he was hding something from her.
Just as it was her turn the doors slammed open. Four guys, all dressed in black, hurried in. They had masks on and were holding rifles.
"Everybody hit the ground, NOW!" one of the guys, probably the leader, shouted raising his weapon. Everyone fell to the ground including Loralei.
"Mommy whats.." the child was quickly gagged by her mother. "Sssh darling."
The woman had dropped her phone on the floor.
"As long as you do what we say and there is no funny business no one will get hurt" the man said.
The other guys headed over to the counter. "Empty out everything into this bag" they demanded. The bankers did as they were told. Loralei watched as all the cash was put into the bags. The woman saw that they were distratced and probably from fear she tried to make a run for it. The guy instinctly shot her.
Tristan sat in the restaurant when he heard what he thought was a gun shot. His first thought was Loralei. He got up quickly, grabbed his jacket and ran out.
"I thought he'd never leave" the waitress told a colleague. He ran for the bank but he had to be careful. There was a lot of traffic and if he did anything out of the ordinary people would notice.
They had three bag fulls of cash but the police had already been allerted. They surrounded the bank. The woman layed on the ground, in a pool of her own blood, still and not breathing.
"Right........you! Get up" he looked straight at the woman with the child. "Both of you! You'll be our first hostages"
"No.......please.....take me alone. Not my child" she pleaded crying hysterically. One of th other guys grabbed her by the hair "he said get up!" she squealed in pain.
"No please. Take me instead. Please don't hurt them" Loralei stood up "I'll be your hostage" she didn't know why she had just agreed to sign her own death warrant but she knew she couldn't sit back while this little girl could become motherless.
"Fine! You'll be next though" he insisted pointing at the lady with his gun.
Loralei raised her hands up. She hoped by some miraculous miracle that there was a hidden door or something for the police to enter through.
