Science trivia

Grrr...

121 beats per minute...?

(just guessing here...)

Actually, you're not far off :D. The average 2 year old should have a heart rate falling within the range of *roughly* 80-130 beats/minute. A normal adult should have a pulse somewhere between 60-100 beats/minute.

Bonus points: What's the medical term for a heart rate that's faster than the normal range? Slower? (can you tell I have my EMT certification, by the way ;) ).

(I never would have guessed... :rolleyes)

Um... I have no idea.

Q: Explain a nuclear chain reaction.

The short answer is that a nuclear chain reaction happens when a nuclear reaction (a nuclei or nuclear particle collies with others to produce a new substance) causes more than one other nuclear reaction. An uncontrolled chain reaction within a large enough amount of fuel leads to one big bang ;).

By the way, tachycardia is a heart rate of above 100 beats/min.; bradycardia is a heart rate below 60 beats/min.

What's the common name for the animal that bears the scientific name Aptenodytes forsteri?

Pang-gwin! (aka penguin)

Q: What is the average heart rate of Olorin when he sees Inkling's crazy questions?

Olorin, come on down! You're the next contestant on the "Answer is Right"!!!!! :)

My questions, insane as they are, might even be responsible for sending you into SVT (superventricular tachycardia, a HR of over 150 beats/min). I'll just make sure my nearly-Paramedic hubby is standing by with his ambulance before I post any more in this thread ;) *glares at and sticks out tongue at said hubby, who still won't let me get a pet penguin*

What's the atomic mass of the element symbolized as Sn?

I'm not familiar with that particular acronymn...I'm guessing others arent either?

Q: how many yoctograms are in 1 gram? (HINT: a LOT...it's the smalled prefix in the metric system)

You are correct. However, you forgot to post a question. :p

What is a half-life? (Sorry, I know these aren't real challenging...but I can't think of much.)

The time it takes for half the atoms in a sample to decay

Where is the horsehead nebula located and what is its significance ?

The horsehead nebula is located in the constellation Orion, the hunter. I'm not sure of the significance, except that the ionized gasses create it's distinctive shape and emit a magnetic field.

My question is in the form of a photo. Since we're on the subject of Astronomy, identify the constellation in the photo below. What is the name of its brightest star? Here's a hint: The constellation is one of the oldest recognized and is prominant in the Northern Hemisphere around this time of the year. It has a right ascention of 11 hrs. and a declination of 15 degrees.
