Sonnets Here, In-House

With folks of teen and college age, a trick
Is being played on them by film and song:
If romance doesn't show up for you quick,
You must be doing everything all wrong.

For absolutely EVERY other youth
Has got a lover -- so the movies claim.
It must be you alone who is a goof,
Just you who is a loser; what a shame!

But no! The shame belongs upon the souls
Of those who plant this envy in your heart.
In real life, MANY miss romantic goals,
And MANY find it even hard to start.

You're not alone, so don't think you're a dweeb;
Give God some time, and don't let films deceive.

I see you there
Carressing the paints
With in awe and care

It's a fondness
mixed with sadness
That makes you think
of your dad

My wife and kids
treat you bad
Don't turn away from
the window or glass

Griet your a special person
And I will never treat you bad.

Narnia_Bookworm, you are welcome to post poems on my thread as often as you like. But if you plan on writing a large number of them, you might want to start your own thread for them, so your work is easier for people to find.

Just in case this went unnoticed by some....

Resuming the series --

"He made them male and female," Scripture states;
And when the male and female seek their dream,
Though many times a fleshly thrill awaits,
No less a prize consists in self-esteem.

The knowledge that somebody values you,
That someone thinks you stand out from the crowd,
Is priceless gold when you've been feeling blue.
So even where a touch is not allowed,

The vindication of your worth amounts
To something many souls are starving for;
It gives your eyes a gleam, your steps a bounce,
And this while still outside the bedroom door.

No matter when the time arrives to sweat,
It's bliss to know that someone won't forget.

I do not consider "the series" to be completed yet; but I have just received a special request from a valued friend, on behalf of two other members. Accordingly, a special sonnet is forthcoming. Note that, for the sake of meter, I treat the word "Barbarian" as being only three syllables. This is called poetic license ....

THE DANCING LAWN COUPLE

Barbarian King made me aware today
Of how our friend Octesian has proclaimed
The hope of lasting love he has obtained.
I hope I don't jinx them by what I say!

Octesian, you name friendship as the base
From which you've worked on love with Natalie.
I'm sure her Air Force brother would agree:
If there's no friendship, love will get noplace.

Now, Florida is wonderful to tour;
But _anyplace_ is good if, when you're there,
Your treatment of a loved one's just and fair;
A gracious loyalty makes love endure.

Raw, blind emotion _anyone_ can have,
But love with truth will be a healing salve.

What a great poetic proclamation, Copperfox. I'm happy for the couple, and I think that you did a nice job moving from a sort of playful tone in the early verses to a serious truth at the end:D

(Resuming "the series")

Unfinished, half-accomplished, unfulfilled;
Inadequate, ill-fashioned, incomplete;
The things we try to find, or try to build,
So often end up sour instead of sweet.

Young people think they understand this fact;
But they, by definition, don't know yet
How deeply life, through decades, will have stacked
The dreams and plans which ended with regret.

I'm told the problem with experience
Is that it gives the test before the course.
All we can do is pray we'll have good sense,
To minimize our causes for remorse.

It's better to have failed in righteous quests
Than to succeed in selfish wickedness.

A world that will accuse a man of "hate"
For saying love should operate God's way,
Has forfeited the right to arbitrate
The rules of love. Now, some claim to obey

The rules of science, but biology
-- A science! -- testifies to God's design
For mating, a design of "he and she,"
The very thing this world would undermine.

In these conditions, when a normal boy
Aspires to Christian marriage, and his flesh
Is disciplined for sake of truest joy,
He makes tradition come to life afresh.

God bless all boys my sonnet thus describes!
Rebel against the filth, and live clean lives!

I like it!!!

This is partially the struggle im going through (staying pure when my freinds aren't)

I so wish I could write a sonnet. I need to try!
