I suppose you would know because you do it much more than I.

Maybe the thread should get locked until its participants can actually discuss the series/movies instead of what's wrong/right? I actually liked being able to discuss series episodes instead of being constantly contradicted in everything I say.

Yah I don't even know what this argument is about. I think most people agree that the first Star Trek movie was a real stink-aroo, and "The Undiscovered Country" was good, but I don't remember the score to either one. I think that most people don't focus on the score -- and it takes an exceptional score for anyone even to remember it and remark on it. Except, as I said, for people who have a real ear for that. I don't think most people do. But it is a matter of opinion, and I think we've all had our say about it, so let's move on, or let's start a different thread to discuss movie scores. Thanks!

Star Trek 6 is my favorite movie, and even I don't pay attention to the music very much. If a score, such as First Contact, stands out, I pay attention. Or if I hear the music separately, I tend to notice it more. Anyways...I took about a 2 week break from watching TNG, and got back to watching it yesterday; I'm still only in season 1.

The ending to "When the Bough Breaks" was so cute though. I loved seeing Picard's reaction to the kids.

That one has a pretty simple plot and fix -- oh your ozone layer is ruined but it will come back and then you can have kids again ... But sometimes the season one episodes weren't all that complex ... Still, any ones with kids are cute. Did you see the one yet where some of the crew somehow gets turned back into children? It's pretty funny, and sweet, too.

Nope, haven't made it quite that far yet. I think I've seen it though; the plot sounds familiar.

Happy First Contact Day!!! :D Unfortunately I don't own "First Contact", but I think I'll spend a couple of hours today watching some Star Trek to make up for it. ;)

Welcome Vulcan visitors. We are very happy to meet you. Of course, happiness is an emotion that you don't feel, so let us just say that it is good for humanity to be able to add our part to Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination.

(This is the beginning of my speech to welcome the Vulcans ...)

Happy First Contact Day!

Guess what I found out! The guest director of the musical our church is sponsoring/organizing (for a musical mission to Japan this summer) used to design flora for the sets of Star Trek! He still is a greensman by trade, by the way; his musical talents and leadership are an outlet for serving God.

Which Star Trek? The Original Series? Their plants were terrible mostly! Hopefully he was Next Generation or something more modern ... or was it movies? That's way cool.

I'm pretty sure it is Not the original series (he is younger than me i think) -- but I'll ask which one at our next rehearsal.

LOL! Must have been the movies or else one of the newer series. Good! The Original Series sets often had a lot to be desired ...

What, those faded golden honeycomb windows don't do it for you eh? Or those lovely orange/red sequined space blankets in sick bay (which incidentally were very uncomfortable according to cast members) Strangely enough, I think Spock's room was probably the coolest onboard. Go figure

Agreed! Spock had simple good taste.

Those blankets! I had not thought about that at all, but you're right! Very space age. :)

Okay, so I just checked out Memory Alpha (Star Trek wikipedia), and learned that not only is Leonard Nimoy reprising his role in the sequel, KHAN will be in the film as well!

If this doesn't prove that Abrams is NOT sticking with the original series canon, I don't know what will. Not to mention, I'm not sold on Khan being played by a white guy (Benedict Cumberbatch) when he was originally played and made famous by Ricardo Montalban (NOT a white guy!). Discuss.

No one will ever be Kahn but Ricardo Montalban! But he was supposed to be Indian, not Hispanic, anyway. Will Cumberbatch at least look Indian, maybe? I am very curious about this. Leonard Nimoy will appear as old relic Spock, survivor of the original timeline? But he will know already all about Kahn and would certainly help new Kirk in his dealings with him? This is going to be very strange. But kind of cool, I loved Kahn in both his permutations.

It was the 1960s. Native Americans were not treated as equals in Hollywood because of the extremely racist stereotypes (see Reel Injun, 2009 for the history of this). The photos I've seen of Cumberbatch: he isn't Indian or made to look Indian...and personally if he was, I'd be rather offended even as a white person; there are a number of talented Native American actors that would be far more deserving of the role. Khan's origins, though vague, are those of a Sikh (northern India), so he wasn't even a North American Indian (see "Space Seed" of TOS, or this article here: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Khan_Noonien_Singh). To me, casting a white person in a role that is exclusively ethnic, is a slap in the face to all the strides made towards equality in Hollywood. It's like the newest Lone Ranger, that stars Johnny Depp as Tonto (Depp claims to have Cherokee ancestry, but I highly doubt it). Give me a break!

Nimoy will appear as the old Spock, but no info as to what that will include. This is just not making me want to see the movie; if anything, it's making me want to avoid it as much as possible. I don't like Abrams' take on the Trek universe that I love, because he's ripping it apart.

Okay, so the blame isn't entirely with Abrams, however, he's the director and has the final say in things...and I think his style of filmmaking is extremely amateur (I can do the same kind of effects with a flashlight.)
