Okay, so the blame isn't entirely with Abrams, however, he's the director and has the final say in things...and I think his style of filmmaking is extremely amateur (I can do the same kind of effects with a flashlight.)
ROFL. I liked the effects and the story in the new movie.

Yah, east Indian was what I meant Kahn was, as he was a Sikh. I agree, they could probably find a really dazzling Bollywood actor to take the role, and I think that would be dreamy. :)

But I like the possibility that they can now revisit old characters and scenarios but in a drastically new way, since the original timeline was blown all to bits and exists only in old Spock's memory. It's the ultimate time-continuum debacle. It presents lots of very cool possibilities. Even if they just went back through the old shows they could come up with all kinds of interesting story lines. I hope they do a good job. I like the new characters.

Here is the latest article I've found on Memory-Alpha (via TrekMovie.com): http://trekmovie.com/2012/04/30/major-star-trek-sequel-spoilers-confirmed/

Cumberbatch is a good actor, but I still don't like him in this role. I have a very bad feeling about it. I mean, what gives Abrams the right to turn an [eastern] Indian character into a white man? No right, IMHO. But I'm interested in the whole inclusion of the Klingons; especially since their appearance in the 2009 film was cut.

I'm getting ready for the new Star Trek movie coming out in May. There's a new trailer that's exclusive to iTunes that shows a little more of the plot. Looks good.

I didn't see the trailer yet, I will have to go take a look. I'll be happy to see a new Star Trek! I haven't seen a film in cinema in a while ...

I've also been watching more DS9 lately. Only problem is that I am watching episodes of the last season (7?) I think. But that's ok. It's still pretty cool!

The villain of the Into The Darkness has a very bespelling voice. I surmise he is Khan, but I shall have to wait and see to confirm my assumption. :)

The villain looks even crazier than Nero from the previous movie. Probably because this one looks like he's being evil just because, as opposed to Nero who was just an angry dude.

Ugh. Nero was one of THE worst movie villains ever imagined. Don't get me wrong: I love Eric Bana, but Nero was one of his worst roles. Of course, nero is at the bottom of my complaint list against that film, but anyways.

In regards to SG's comment about Khan, I'm pretty sure that rumor has been dispelled by various cast members. One of the cast (I think it may have been the actor who plays Scotty, but I don't remember for sure) made a comment that he believed Cumberbatch would be a 'pretty good Gary Mitchell'. Now, we know the blonde is Carol Marcus, the woman that Kirk had a son with; though I must say it's interesting she has a hairstyle similar to that of Elizabeth Dehner from the TOS episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before". I will have to say that if Cumberbatch does indeed turn out to be Khan, I will be even more disappointed/upset in Abrams than I was before.

Knowing Abrams, it's always possible Simon Pegg made that comment on purpose to get people speculating. If anyone sees the film in theaters, please post here to let us know who Cumberbatch turns out to be! I don't plan on wasting another $8 to Abrams and his atrocious version of the Trek universe.

In relation to other things Trek: I made my way through TNG and was very sad when I reached the finale. I was surprised by how much I liked the show after seasons 1/2. Right now I'm early into season 6 of DS9, having skipped only one episode (THAT episode with Dax). I've also liked this show and I was very wrong to say that a show revolving around a 'stationary space station has to be dull'. After I'm done with DS9, I plan on watching TOS from the beginning so that I can say I've seen all 5 live action series.

So glad you came around to liking DS9. It had a lot of great characters and real creativity with the mysticism of Bajor and the way they felt about Sisko. I loved Kira and Odo so much. All the characters were good. The only thing, I missed the last couple of seasons and when I tried catching up, I didn't like the new Dax after Jadzia and I couldn't really keep up with what was going on. Probably my own fault though; it was a busy time in my life.

Anyway, I am still lacking Voyager and Enterprise. I have seen episodes of Voyager, but have not watched all the way through. Now that I am caught up to Dr Who, maybe that will be my next Netflix journey. I keep thinking I will do it, but then I don't. I am sure I would like it. I liked all the other series very much.

Netflix has all 6 Trek series. Thankfully they don't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. :D ;)

Just saw the episode where Worf and Jadzia get married. So adorable.

DS9 could do without all that "prophets" mysticism in my opinion.

It doesn't bother me, to be honest. I guess in a way, it's kind of nice to have that in the show (don't get me wrong: it's definitely a false religion) because it defines several of the characters and gives them each a purpose. I'd most certainly rather have that than elements that were exemplified in the most controversial Trek episode ever, "Rejoined" (season 4). I skipped over that episode altogether.

I agree with AK -- I liked that the Bajorans had a religion that was central to their lives. It was an element you didn't see much in Trek lore. Did you see the episode where they revived the caste system for Bajor? They had forgotten about it in their long war with the Cardassians, because then everyone was just fighting for survival with no caste constraints, but they decided to revive it in peace time -- and it messed everyone up! Kira was supposed to be from the artistan caste, and she was a terrible artist! Eventually they realized that while the system had worked in the past, it was never meant to inhibit people's following other paths, and they gave it up. I thought it was a nice way to show how your faith can remain your foundation without your being bound by every law in the book. I liked that side of DS9.

OK, what was "Rejoined"? I saw all the episodes but don't remember anything to controversial.

I did see the episode. I also just saw the episode where *squee* Kira and Odo FINALLY kissed and became an item! Probably won't last considering how the Trek writers love to mess with their fans, but my inner fangirl was doing cartwheels. :D

Link to "Rejoined" summary: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Rejoined_(episode) I get bombarded enough with this blatant tolerance of immoral lifestyles, so I didn't feel the need to force myself to sit through 45 minutes of something I am disgusted by.

I will have to say that my favorite episode so far was the episode in which the entire crew was out of their usual character makeup and set in the 1950s. Some pretty good acting by Avery Brooks (though he gets on my nerves most of the time), and some of these people are VERY good looking without their prosthetics on. Ha.

Yes, that was a good episode! I think most of the Trek series had fun with setting the characters back in earth's past ... ToS' "A Piece of the Action" is one of my favorites, and of course the one with Edith Keeler ... Guardian of Forever?

I agree, Avery Brooks is kind of annoying, but he had the perfect personality and style for that 50's episode. And that's so funny what you said about their looks without their prosthetics! My brother always loved Kira, whether she had her nose ridges or not ...

"City on the Edge of Forever"

So, I just finished season 6. It's terrible knowing a character will die and you have to brace yourself for it. Still, I bawled like a baby. and where was a funeral/memorial service? I NEED CLOSURE!!! :(

Something very exciting for me. I get to see Star Trek on Sunday! One of the perks of being in the military(my dad is a veteran) is that they have free movie theaters. And sometimes they have early releases. For free. I'm waiting eight hours to see it, but it's worth it!

Ok, you may continue. I just wanted to share that with you.
