Yup, yup. I was actually thinking the exact same as you here. Start with TNG, then DS9, VOY, Enterprise, and TOS. I think TNG's stories make a great introduction to Trek, even though my first real introduction to Trek started with Voyager. I didn't watch TNG until after I had already seen Voyager and Enterprise all the way through.

Or, if you want to, I'd say you could start with Enterprise then go to TNG. However, Enterprise precedes TOS, so if you jump series you'll be missing about 100 years of Trek history. But I really loved Enterprise; it had some good stories and good characters.

A new Trekkie! Man, I'm still halfway to DS9. I already watched all of Voyager and Enterprise and an assortment of episodes from TNG. I haven't really watched any TOS at all, except when I was a kid, but I don't remember any of it.
 
I just got finished watching Into to Darkness for the first time. I've gotta watch it again because a lot happened that I scratched my head over...but I can't say my opinion of it has changed from when I didn't see it. It still leaves a sour taste in my mouth that WASN'T produced by the cough syrup I took while watching the movie.

Be assured, I was NOT medicating myself because of watching the movie. :p
 
I wish I was taking cough syrup when I watched that movie! Maybe I would have liked it better, lol. But I'm not here to comment on that except to say that I agree with Sir Godfrey on the fact that some of the violence by Khan was unnecessary.

Anyway, I started watching TOS on Netflix too. I started with the Pilot episode where Captain Pike get taken hostage by those silly Talosians. Boy. That was some cheesy episode. I don't really know how that series actually survived that original thing. If I had been in charge of approving the series after the pilot, I would have said no way.

What I think (and I know a lot of people will agree with me) saved the series was the new cast, starting with William Shatner and everyone else. As soon as I watched the first episode with this new cast, everything changed. Things got more interesting and smart, and the dialog and acting felt natural, fluid and engaging. It was very refreshing to all of a sudden see an African-American, and Asian, and an Eastern European as main characters. I don't think anyone had ever seen that before.

I'm still watching TOS, except I too a little break for now. I'll catch up some more soon.

Now I've see all of Voyager, Enterprise, DS9, and still an assortment of TNG and some TOS. Darn! I'm afraid I'll soon feel the the need of going to conventions with a blue shirt and pointy ears. Noooooo.

Haha. I've stopped worrying about that. I even bought a Star Trek shirt because I was feeling a little unbalanced in displaying my fandom love. I had a Star Wars shirt but not a Trek one. Now I do. :D

I will definitely agree with you on the cheesiness of the TOS pilot. It was an unaired pilot, which is probably why the series survived for 3 seasons. The pilot of the series was actually the 2nd episode with Kirk and Co. The Man Trap is the name of that one, I believe (still as cheesy, but it seems to get better as the series progresses). I have yet to make it through season 2. Once I got rolling on TNG, I really couldn't quit watching regularly. I would watch three or four hours at a time before stopping; same with Enterprise (I finished all 4 seasons in less than a month!). DS9 was a little slower, but I think it was because the series was structured somewhat differently so it took more getting used to.

I was going to post a more detailed review of Into Darkness, but I don't think any review could properly sum up my disgust over the film. I think we'd all be better off by not reading it. Especially if you came away with any tendency to actually like the film. You would most likely hate me very much for what I would have to say about the movie.
 
AK, we would never hate you for anything you said about a movie! Everyone has a right to their opinion. :)

I liked Into Darkness and thought it was a nice homage to Wrath of Kahn. I though Quinto did a great job, and I loved the campy way they reversed the Kirk Death scene from Wrath with almost the same words and actions in Into Darkness. And of course I loved Cumberbatch (sp?!) as Kahn ... It was a good flick to my mind.

Go ahead and post your review. We can take it!

And congrats on your ST shirt! Glad you are keeping balance in the Force by having a SW and ST one. :)
 
Ah, shirts, yes. As much as I like SW and ST, I cannot bring myself to buy a shirt, even though I have about 3 Doctor Who ones and want to get one more! Go figure.
 
I never wear t-shirts like that except as a beach cover-up or something ... I see a lot of very cool t-shirts, but they just don't look good on me. :)

I do have a very cool Spock Fridge magnet. And a Picard and the TNG crew mouse pad!

You may not, but a lot of others would/do. Just see some peoples' response to the way I feel about Dawn Treader. They don't know how to accept differing opinions [granted, I struggle with it too, but at least I try to get over it].

And I don't really remember, or maybe I was too disgusted with it, but I didn't notice as many lens flares. Were they as numerous as in the 1st film?

I don't really find it that amusing. I think it falls into a category similar to, "ways to effectively [try to] kill a thread." MrSmith should work on his jokes and actually post something that's humorous.

Now, feel free to call me a wet blanket. I have a sense of humor, and I appreciate things that are actually funny.

Anyway. I discovered today that Netflix has a lot of the Trek films on instant streaming. So far, they have:

The Motion Picture
Wrath of Khan
The Search for Spock
The Voyage Home
Generations
First Contact
Nemesis
[this leaves out only The Final Frontier, Undiscovered Country, and Insurrection.]

These are in addition to their already long-available 6 series of Trek. Not sure why they have just started adding the movies back; maybe they're about to put all 10 on instant availability? Not that I care for most of the films. Out of the 10, only 4-5 are actually decent to sit through and enjoy (Wrath of Khan, Voyage Home, First contact, Undiscovered Country, and to some extent, Nemesis).
 
hey that's good news! I wanted to watch Wrath of Kahn before I went to see Into Darkness. I like most of TOS movies OK. I never really got into the TNG movies. I think I saw all of them, but only once. The one where there's a Borg Queen and she tries to corrupt Data, I remember some of that ... the rest of them I didn't find too memorable.

I like Wrath of Kahn and Undiscovered Country best of all of them.
 
Oh First Contact I remember now that you say that -- We actualy see Z Chochrane preparing for his first warp flight. Presents quite a different picture than the Cochrane we see in that episode of ToS where he is living on a deserted planet with just The Companion! And yah, Picard is dealing with the Borg on his ship, and that young woman from earth calls him out about being obsessed with them like Capt Ahab and the white whale. I do remember quite a bit from that one after all; it's pretty good.
 
So, I decided to re-watch Generations. Just because I hadn't seen it since first watching it about 5 years ago. It wasn't quite as bad as I remember, though I still have issues with the last 20 minutes of it, and the entire mixed uniforms thing. Putting Kirk at a house chopping wood is totally against his entire character, for Kirk seemed happiest on the bridge of the Enterprise. And don't even get me started on how Kirk was buried. The man should have had a big memorial service with all the fanfare, etc.!

AK, is Generations the one where Kirk (dead one, apparently) helps Picard in destroying some kind of weapon that was going to cause some wave to expand and destroy stuff? I vaguely remember that movie.

Yep, that's the one. It wasn't a bad idea really; but Kirk's death and subsequent 'funeral' was sad. And I don't mean 'sad' in the emotional sense. And the fact that the budget was so limited that they had to mix TNG and Voyager era uniforms is another sad fact (also telling is the fact that Jonathan Frakes' Voyager era jacket is too short/small for him, and his sleeves don't reach to his wrists!)
 
I think it was crazy to do that movie with a dead Kirk. They should have used some other means to merge the two characters, such as time travel, some kind of energy disruption or even the most famous "subspace anomaly" by which they explain almost anything in those ships!:D
 
Technically he wasn't dead; he was sucked into the Nexus and kept alive for 78 years until Picard found him (but according to Guinan, Kirk thought he had just arrived). Everyone else thought Kirk had died, but he didn't actually die until the fight with Dr. Soran.
