My sisters, youngest brother, and I all saw this last night.:D It was a really fun movie. The only problem was the villain didn't seem, I don't know, villainous enough? until right at the end. But it was definitely one of the better Disney cartoons. When I first saw the trailers I thought it was going to be all crude-humor-cynical-Shrek-ish, but it wasn't. And I liked the way it was animated. Overall, I'd give it about an 8 out of 10.
I'm glad to hear a report from someone who's seen the movie! :) I, too, was concerned that it would have Shrek-ish crude humor, just because the story seemed modernized. I was super relieved when I read the Plugged In review.

I don't know, since I haven't seen the movie, but is it a GOOD thing that the villain isn't as villainous as others? From my experience with Disney animated movies, the villains are over-the-top and totally ridiculous. I'll be glad if Mother Gothel breaks out of this stereotype.

Well...she acted a little flighty/giggly, but I suppose that was part of her pretending-to-be-nice persona.:p Once the story got more serious she got more threatening.

It is true that Disney villains tend to be ridiculously evil just for the sake of being evil. At least Mother Gothel's motives made sense---I mean, wanting eternal youth makes more sense than wanting to destroy the world just because it's there.

Wow, that really made me laugh. xD

Yeah, what flightiness I've seen in the previews does look like it could be annoying to watch, but still... that's better than the risible coldness and aloofness of Cinderella's mother. :p

I agree. Craving eternal youth can corrupt a person, even in real life, although it may not manifest itself in the same way. :p It's different than just being born evil, like most Disney villians.

Love your new avvie! :D

I was listening to part of the soundtrack on youtube, and I went crazy wanting to see the movie. xD I had to tell myself to stop listening to it, since I was only making the wait more difficult.

Yes, I am looking forward to it.

The trailers I downloaded on iTunes made me laugh so much.

I love the idea that she has a frypan the whole movie, cannot cook to save her life and mostly uses it to hit people.

The chameleon is also funny.

mild spoiler Personally I think Mother Gothel was especially chilling just because she was so deceptively "nice" -- seeing her manipulate Rapunzel simply disgusted me. She is a lot closer to villains in real life, appearing to care but it is all a front.

Cool. :D That's what it looked like to me from the trailers and movie clips I've seen. :) I think it's very realistic.

I got to see it on opening day!! It was really good!! I would like to see it again!!
Fantastic! Who was your favorite character? What is your opinion of Mother Gothel?

Last night, I found this song on youtube, and my sister and I loved it! :D

For those of you who (like me) haven't seen the movie, this clip with the first verse in it but has part of the actual movie scene!

After watching 100 Dalmatians with my little siblings last night, my opinion of Mother Gothel has officially gone up. Compared to Cruella's...er...extremely cartoonish villainy, Gothel seems a lot more realistic. She's not my favorite Disney villain, but she's one of the better ones.

I saw it this afternoon! I thought it was very good, I was expecting it to be very modernized, it wasn't really, and as usual the characters were a lot of fun

Fantastic! :D

And Sea Star, I totally agree... I like the villains that are human in their behavior. Like Edgar in The Aristocats. He's not one of my favorites by any means, but he was pretty realistic. More people have tried to get a fortune through dishonest means than tried to blow up the world. ;)

I really want to see it.... my sister is going with her friend on Saturday, and I sorta wanted to tag along. But I think I have a party to go to. Hmmmmmm.... maybe over Christmas break. If it's still out.

I liked Maximas!!! I liked how mother Gothel seemed to be not so evil till the middle when she gets out of the tower.

Maximus looks really funny from all the trailers. :D I've heard a lot of positive feedback on Mother Gothel, too. :)

I hope you get to see it, Lila!
