I think it's pretty good! And it will probably be much better when we know what happens next.;) I'll pray that you can find your papers!

Mozart followed Mimi to one of the horse stalls. It had a crude roof made by laying parts of the rotting wood from the barn ontop of the two stall dividers. The front was open and the back was the barn wall. As Mozart peeked inside she saw the walls were covered with tar paper and tattered posters. A pile of hay covered in blankets sat in one corner and a small bench and table sat against the left wall. The ground was covered in a light layer of hay.

Mimi sat on the bench at the table now, holding a charcoal pencil and writing on a piece of skin-paper.

Mozart sat and watched her for awhile until Mimi suddenly sighed wistfully and then picked up the edge of what Mozart now saw was a leather-bound blue covered book. Shutting the book she turned and set it under the bed (if it can be called such) then started over towards where Mozart was sitting. She nearly ran into the little cat and jumped when she saw her.

"What are you doing here?!?" Mimi demanded, furious.
Mozart sat calmly and explained, "I wanted to know more about you, so I followed you."
"To spy on me?!?" said Mimi angrily, her dark blonde fur bristling.
"I try not to spy often," said Mozart, "But you seemed lonely, and there really isn't much to spy on here."

Mimi was about to reply when suddenly they heard a loud screeching noise from outside.

Mozart was nearly knocked over as Mimi raced past her and stared up out the corner of the stall. Just as quickly the small cat ducked back into her haven and said in a ragged and hunted voice, "They're here. I-I didn't think they'd find me here..." she swallowed hard then quickly started grabbing her frugal possesions- including the journal Mozart had seen her writing in earlier- and stuffing then into a small pack. She threw it onto her back and whipped around to look at Mozart who stood dumbfounded at the rapid turn of events.

"Where are you from?" she demanded.
"A.... A fortress not far from here called Reandalawo. It stands on the crest of a hill in Freedom Forest." said Mozart.
Mimi nodded, "Take me there... please." there was a desperation in her voice that Mozart could not refuse.

"Alright." she said and saw Mimi's shoulders slump with relief, "But first tell me who you're running from."
The wild and frantic glare in Mimi's eyes returned, "There's no time! They are here you dimwit! They'll kill us!"
Mozart raised her voice slightly, "Who are they?"
Mimi stared at her angrily, as if trying to condem the she-cat for not knowing this information already.
"Algulin, the king of the Black Eagles and his army of crows. They're after me! Now we have to get out of here before-" she was cut off by another screech from outside.

Well I bet you didn't expect that, now did you?:p

 No, I didn't expect it at all! Yikes!

Yeah, I love writing but I need action in my stories to be able to keep writing them and since this story wasn't enticing me I added something that did. Trust me this gets good, I already have a plan for what's going to happen in my mind and... well you'll see.:D

Mimi grabbed Mozart's paw and started dragging her along.
"I'll explain later, just get me to this fortress!"

Mozart decided to do as she was told and quickly took the lead, stopping by the doorway of the barn. Peering out she saw several black crows circling above and knew they would not escape unseen.
Unless there was a diversion...

What seemed like years ago now but really had only happened a few months before came back to Mozart and she remembered the terrifying and confusing jailbreak from Cogg's castle that had almost ended disaterously. It was crazy but maybe, just maybe it would work again...

Mozart slipped back inside and hurried over to Mimi, who was huddling in a corner shaking.
"I'm going to distract the crows while you run." Mozart explained quickly.
"H-how will I find your castle?" Asked Mimi, her voice wavering and unsteady.
"Give me a piece of paper." commanded Mozart. Mimi quickly obliged- taking a tattered scrap from her pack- and handed it to Mozart who scratched a few hurried marks on the map.
"I haven't the time for details, but follow this route," she pointed to a trail she had traced through the paper, "And you'll get there. The trees will hide you from the crows and I can hold them off for awhile I think."
"W-what will you do though?" Mimi asked.
Mozart smiled grimly, "I am what is known as a knightess. I have sworn an oath to protect those weaker than myself- even if it means death on my part, and I readily intend to keep that oath! Now, when you see the crows distracted by me run like crazy to the woods and follow my map. When you get to Reandalawo tell them that Mozart the Meerkitten sent you. If they don't believe you ask for Flower- she'll let anybody in she thinks is trustworthy and who knows my name. Now go and wait by the door."

Mimi did as she was told. Mozart then stood alone in the corner of the barn. The little she-cat took a deep breath then released it to try and ease the tension and franticness that Mimi had transfered to her in the last few frightening minutes.

'White Cat, from wherever you're watching me please give me wisdom, courage and bravery for this battle and help me to face whatever I must with your grace and courage- things only you can give. You know I'm weak and scared, so give me strength and bravery as you have done before when I faced foes. Amen.' Then she drew her sword and calmly stepped out into the snowy day.

The sun was setting, which would provide the purrfect setting for what Mozart was planning: the confusing night shadows mixed with the blinding eye-level sunlight would be dazzling and make it harder for Mimi to be seen as she escaped.

Mozart positioned the sun behind her so that it would be in her opponents eyes and looked about her.
Black spots dove down from the sky to land in front of her. Four crows hopped about on the glittering white ground, letting out throaty, croaking laughs as they saw her.

"And what's this? A miniature cat is it? Ha! What the clever cat won't think of next!" cackled one of them.
"Do you mock a warrior of the White Cat?" Mozart said softly.

The crows broke into more laughter.

"It talks! It talks!" chortled one.
Mozart's eyes had grown into a dangerous shade of dark blue and she raised the sword to a ready position.
"I warn you- leave now and do not return and you will not be harmed." she said, still without raising her voice.
"Hahahaha! We could take it, couldn't we, chums?" said the first bird. The others quickly agreed.
"Aye Magja we could!" affairmed another.
"She's just a liddle 'un she is! Talks like an army's behind her though!" laughed a third.

As the others went to laugh with it though the first bird- the one called Magja- found it rather hard to with Mozart's dagger stuck in his throat. His look of mocking joy turned to one of horror as he let out a gurgle instead of a chuckle, then fell on his back into the snow, staining it a crimson red.

The other three crows stared at the tiny figure in front of them. To them she was no bigger than one of their newly hatched chicks, maybe smaller, yet she had dispatched their leader seemingly without moving.
With croaks of terror now the black birds fled squawking into the sky, away from the small advesary.

Mozart smiled grimly.
The game had begun.

There was a way to attack and kill birds she knew, Ribbony had taught her and the other kittens that during their training. Ribbony had learned it from a eagle called Cloudfeather, many, many years ago.

Mozart knew that the birds could easily swoop down and catch her from behind, then fly high into the air with her- only to drop her to her death. She also knew that if she was to win this game she must strike before they could.
Swiftly Mozart took her bow off her back and strung it, then knocked an arrow to the string. Then silently she waited for the crows to return.

She did not have long to wait. They dove back down towards her, screeching fury at the little cat as they came.
Mozart calmly raised the bow, drew back the string and fired at the lead crow. It struck the creature in the chest with the full force of Mozart's bow and the bird's dive, causing it to drive deeply into her enemy's breast.

At that the other two birds lost their nerve and fled.

Chapter five
The Black Eagle's wrath

"You were beaten by WHAT?!?"

The two crows that had not been killed by Mozart had returned to their master- the Black Eagle, *Algulin.

They had been sent out to find and capture the cat Mimi and instead- much to their master's chagrin- they had returned empty-clawed and minus two of their company. And what creature had done this? fumed the eagle. None other but a tiny, insignifigant furball of a kitten.

'Stupid crows,' thought Algulin, 'Every villian knows that if you have something you want you must get it yourself! Or so said my grandfather, the mangy old cripple.'

"Enough of your croaking!" he screeched to the babbling crows, "Summon your comrades! Search the skies for any settlement you can find and take the army there to capture it- but wait for me. I have a task to do." then Algulin flapped his mighty wings and leapt off the ground with a whoosh of air.

Note: My original proviso of people posting back when I post updates still remains: if nobody posts back I will figure everyone has lost intrest in this story and write it without posting updates until someone shows intrest again. Because if no-one reads it then what's the point of posting updates to something?

I enjoy reading this, and hope you will keep posting.

Now there was a good reason that Mozart had told Mimi to go through Freedom Forest to get to Reandalawo. The forest was old, very, very old, and extremely dense- knotted with thick tangled branches and vines in the canopy to hide the creatures below from unsuspecting eyes. This was the reason that many villages were built under the protective branches of the huge trees. Even those in Meandrao had not bothered to clear the trees very far away from the fortress, which can be both a defense and a weakness.

Of course Reandalawo was different. It was larger and older than its sister fortress Meandrao and stood on the crest of a bare hill like a crown. Still Mozart had known that for the bulk of her journey Mimi would be well protected by the thick forest and only in danger for a short time as she ran out of it to Reandalawo.

Still Mimi resented her for it. It was not easy to traverse the forest ground either, for thornbushes, ivy and branches of various sizes blocked her path, forcing her to go around them or go through them.
In the end- though she was slowed down by the great forest- Mimi made it out to Reandalawo's hill in about an hour. She hurried to it and banged on the door.

"Who goes there?" demanded a guard.
"M-M-Mozart the Meerkitten sent me." She called shakily.
"Then where is she?" called back the guard.
"Somewhere in the forest behind me, I hope."
"How do we know you ain't lying?" retorted the guard.

Mimi was about to call out with a nasty comeback when she heard yelling and then a thunk from above. Then two cat's faces appeared over the wall- one old and one young.
The elder shoved the younger cat and said something to it, then the younger one scampered out of sight. The elder then called down and adressed her.

"My name is Myrrh! You know the name of the Meerkitten Mozart and come here out of breath and frightened, that may not be good enough for a guard but it is good enough for me! For there was once that I took a group of young cats to this very castle and we arrived in a like state to yours and then after we had entered, not ten minutes later there came the bang of a battering ram on the door!" as the old cat spoke one of the great doors of the fortress opened to admit Mimi. Eagerly she scampered in, feeling safer once the doors of the fortress had closed. She saw the the one who had let her in was the young cat she had seen from the wall.

"I'm Flower." the young cat introduced herself, "I'm Mozart's older sister, who are you?"

Is Flower the one you were writing a story about before?

Well I did try to write a story about Flower once but I don't think I ever posted it on TDL. If I did it didn't get far because I forgot about it.:p

My books (or book-length stories) have thus far been about:

Mozart
Fireheart and Jako
Ribbony

As the main Warrior kittens. I believe Flower is in the first two books. (briefly in the 2nd one and more so in the first)

Chagrin. You were close.

I'm glad Mimi made it!
