Ribbony smiled as he walked along the far edge of the desert. He had nearly crossed it. Oh yes, Ribbony knew another way, a way around the desert but he did not take it. Instead he followed the kits’ path across it.
‘Brave little souls. I’m glad Jak told me though, I’d be angry iffin I found out they went to Vengo, or Ventargo as its now called, and I hadn’t been able to come too! Ah the memories there. Tigerclaw must remember it too.’ The big gray tomcat hurried along, about two days behind the LFF Catlition and Claw.

I bet I'll get some interesting replies to this post.:p

Fire was forced to the ground. An arrow whizzed by her head, hitting it’s mark behind her. Fire struggled to stand, but Shady pushed her down again.
“Are you mad?!? They’ll kill us if one arrow moves an inch the wrong way!” she cried, not caring if anyone heard her.
“Dorthy won’t!” Fire leapt up and howled out the old battle cry of the Catlitions.
“THEE LFF CATLITIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!” her siblings joined her in standing and yelling. Creamy yelled, “Use the chains! Swing ‘em ‘round!” Jako let out a high-pitched squeak and ran forward with his brother, both dragging their chains and bowling over their enemies.

Claw knew it was not going well. The LFF Catlition was across all except FSS, and the ones who were there fought wildly. Then Claw had a very nasty idea; he would stop FSS from crossing, throw them into the abyss, yes the abyss would work.

“Shady, to me!” he cried, deciding it was time for the little cat to prove her worth. Shady ran up, “Yessir?”
“Come with me.” Hissed Claw.
Claw handed the end of a rope to Shady, he held the other.
“Now run!” Claw and Shady ran across the bridge, one on one log another on the other. Tansy saw what they were going to do a moment before FSS did.

“NO!” screamed the kitten, “FRODO, SHADOW, SMOKEY, LOOK OUT!!” but it was too late. The three kittens didn’t even have time to draw their swords before Claw and Shady were upon them. Frodo cried out and tumbled over, clinging to the edge of the bridge. Shadow and Smokey -who were a little ways behind their brother- saw what happened and laid down before the two with the rope reached them. Claw gave a yell of “Retreat! Retreat!” and ran back the other way with Shady, and kicked Frodo on the way back.

Mozart looked to the bridge and found herself caught between a rock and a hard spot. Claw was getting away with the kits, but Frodo her loyal little friend was clinging desperately to the edge of the bridge. Time seemed to stand still for a moment, then Mozart gave an earsplitting cry and ran towards the bridge. Shadow and Smokey were already there and trying to pull their brother up. But suddenly Frodo’s paws slipped and he let go for a split second…

He fell.

Mozart heard screams from the little girls and saw the others rush to look and try to grab Frodo, but she could not move. She just stood there, incapable of doing anything.
“Gone.” She whispered, “Gone. Gone. Gone. Gone.” She could not say or do anything else but repeat that word over and over again, until none of them could see Frodo falling anymore, if indeed he ever stopped falling.

“Gone.”

Chapter thirteen
Say “No” to despair!

Fire felt hot tears coming down her furry little face. She pushed them away angrily.
Tansy and Pumpkin wept unashamedly; her brothers Creamy and Jako hung their heads and like her pushed away stray tears.

Later when they stopped Fire sat alone under a lone tree. Shady went over to her.
“Go away.” Growled Fire angrily, “Go away you, you, traitor!”
“Look I’m sorry, O.K.?”
“Sorry won’t bring Frodo back. He was my brother Shady an’ now he’s dead an’ it’s all your fault!”
“Well what did you want me to do, huh? Disobey Claw?”
“Yeah!”
“Fire you know I couldn’t do that!”
Fire looked at her, little blue-green eyes tinged with red fire, “Yes you could have.” Fire stood up and walked away.

“Fine, I don’t need you!” cried Shady after her. But inside Shady knew that she did need her. Fire was her only friend and she may’ve just lost her, over her obedience to Claw.

Pumpkin walked over to Hope and tugged on her.
“What is it, Pump?”
“I want you to talk to Fire. She’s real mad at Shady for, for… for helpin’ to do away wit Frodo. Please talk to her, you’re her friend, please?”
Hope looked at the little fluffy orange kitten standing there looking at her. In the little kit’s eyes she saw the same sadness that her siblings and her had endured when their parents were killed.
“Ok Pumpkin, I’ll talk to her.”
“Thankee Hope.” Pumpkin smiled, and with that smile Hope knew she had gained another little furry friend.

Hope went over to where Fire’s lonely figure sat. She was crying. Hope didn’t blame her; she had cried many tears over her own losses.
She sat down by Fireheart.
“Hullo Fire.”
“Hallo Hope.” Came the blank uncaring reply, “My best friend killed my brother.”
“She didn’t really have much of a choice, Fire.”
“Yes she did!” yelled the angry kitten, “She coulda ignored Claw or pretended to not have heard or sumthing!”
“But she didn’t and you can’t change what she did. Let it go, Fire.”
“But she knew he was my brother! I yelled his name and my sisters! She knew I loved him!” Fire cried, tears running freely down her little face.

They sat in silence for awhile

DARN IT MEWSIE!!!!! You can't tell me "Read my story to the end" when it ends like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >.< MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then Fire spoke, “He was a good big brother, he alays looked afta us. I dunno who was his favorite ‘cause he loved us all, and I just, just… I don’t want him to be gone. I’d rather ‘ave gone wit him then have him leave me here.”
“But you’ll see him again, or at least when I lost my mama that’s what she tole me. She said that someday I’d see her again, up there.” Hope pointed her black paw to the sky, “Then she died.
“But I got better at dealing with sadness, Fire, I lost both my parents at once and it was a huge blow. But I learned to be grateful for other things; I was still alive and I still had my siblins. I had my sister and my brothers, my memories mama and father gave to me and so much more. I learned to love and have fun again, Fire, but it didn’t last long.
“You talked to me about the White Cat one day. I was sinking into despair then but you helped me out; and I am ever so grateful. Now I’m going to help you; just say ‘No!’ to despair Fire!”

“That’d be great, but I think it’s either imp-o-sable or just I plain can’t.”
“Oh Fire, dear little Fire; that’s why I’m here to help you.”

Hope smiled at the little orange kitten who laid her head against Hope’s shoulder appreciatively.

“Mozart!”
“What, Sang?”
“We’re almost outta water.”
“There’s a stream nearby, go get some!” growled Dorthy.
“I don’t feel like it! Why don’t you?!?”
“You were the one who said we’re almost outta water, go get some!”
“No!”
“Yes!”
“NO!”
“YES!”
“Stoppit!”

Toto pushed his way between the two, “Stop, both of you. Now that’s better. We’re all sad and don’t feel like doing anything, Sang but…”
“Oh so its all my fault, is it? Well I got news for you, you son of a…”
“Oh do stop!” cried Mozart, “Brave, Shaggs can you two go get the water, please?” she asked politely.
“Sure, Mo. C’mon Bravey.” Out of all the kittens Brave, Shaggy and Silver had been hit by Frodo’s death the lightest; for they barely even knew the young cat, but missed him nevertheless.

“If Frodo was here he wouldn’t want us tu be fighten’” Smokey said softly.
“He’d tell us to stop an’ be nice to each other.” Put in Shadow.

Dorthy and Sanga looked at each other.
“Sorry I snipped.”
“Sorry I yelled.”
“Its O.K. guys, kitten hug!” they all wrapped their arms round each other and hugged tightly to one another.

“I got a feeling its gonna be alright guys.” Said Caspian, “If only we don’t despair.”
Mozart smiled at him, “Yes, you’re right Caspian; I say ‘No!’ to despair!”
“No to despair!” they all chorused.

Chapter fifteen
What happened to Frodo

Frodo fell and fell for what seemed like forever. He passed out not halfway down the canyon.
But the bottom was not rock like most are. This one had a river at the bottom of it. It was a slow moving river with no rapids or waterfalls and it was by the White Cat’s doing that Frodo landed in it and not the little land around it. He laid in the river, caught on a rock and unconscious.

Now you must remember that Ribbony was following the kits. He came to the bridge about a day and a half after the others had.
While he was crossing something caught his eye at about halfway across. He stopped and saw that it was a set of claw marks; they were little claws that made them and they had been dragged across the wood until at the edge they slipped and let go. It was apparent to an experienced tracker like Ribbony what had happened.

‘One of the poor kits slipped into the abyss, I see.’ But Ribbony had noticed something that the LFF Catlition, and indeed Claw too had not realized; the faint sound of running water.
“I wonder…” Ribbony hurried across to the other side and to his amazement found a stairway down to the bottom of the ravine.

When he reached the end there was a little way he had to jump to get down, but nothing too hard. He never slipped or slid on his descent and made a very dignified figure going down.
He scanned the river, watching for any sign of life.

“Hallo! Its me, Ribbony, anyone there?”
A shaky voice answered him, “Here.”

Ribbony hurried towards the voice. There he found little Frodo, battered up against the shore, covered in mud and blood.
“Little Frodo!” cried the older gray cat running over to him, “Goodness what happened to you, kit? Nevermind, don’t try and talk. Lie still, don’t struggle, there’s a good tomkit, easy Frodo.” Ribbony had picked the kit up by his scruff and set him on the least rocky ground he could find.

"Good thing the river was there to break your fall, eh Frod?" Ribbony kept up a constant stream of chatter to the kitten to reasure him that he was still there.
Ribbony only stopped when he began licking. He cleaned the kit's fur with his rough tounge gently as if he was a mother cat washing her newborns. It took Ribbony about an hour to get Frodo cleaned up; but the kit looked more like himself that way. Ribbony and Frodo actually looked alot alike. In fact when he had first come to Reandalawo he had gotten a few inquires as to if Frodo and his siblings were Ribbony's kits.

Frodo opened his eyes. They still held a bluish tint to them though it was overpowered by the greenish brown of his little eyes.
"Haylo Rwibony, where's da Caytlatin?" then he shut his eyes again but Ribbony whispered back to him,
"Not far, little Frodo, not far."
