Brother’s Love
Brother’s Love
The huge menacing creature loomed before her. He was completely black, all save his eyes which held about them a reddish glow. Caspian’s eyes glowed red sometimes, but that was when he was angry or fighting to protect his siblings… or both.
But Mozart knew that Cogg’s eyes glowed red for another reason, he was evil. More evil than Tigerclaw or Shawnti had been or ever would be. Yet Mozart felt no fear as blue met red. The huge wolf and the tiny kitten stared at each other, and if you had been watching them you wouldn’t know whether they were going to fight or embrace each other.
“Are you the warrior they speak of? Who was said to penetrate my impenetrable fortress? Who broke my prisoners out of a dungeon that it is said none can escape?” the wolf spoke looking down at her.
“It wasn’t me, Cogg, it was the White Cat who broke my siblings out of your dungeons, who penetrated your fortress. And it is the White Cat who will allow me to kill you and let my friends win this battle.”
“Ha! You are a foolish kitten, the White Cat is nought but a fairy-tale, meant for babes to amuse them!” laughed Cogg.
“I know I’m a fool, Cogg, but I’m a good fool I think. Now Cogg, I have not come to brandy words with the likes of you!” she held up her sword, “Fight me if you dare.”
“It will be easy to beat you.” growled the wolf.
“Maybe, maybe not. But if I die, it is the will of the White Cat!” metal crashed upon metal then, but where Cogg had gotten his sword, Mozart didn’t know.
Mozart found it was all she could do to keep from being slashed to bits. But she had an advantage; since Mozart was so tiny (especially compared to Cogg) she hardly ever had to duck, or jump to avoid Cogg’s sword-blade.
Mozart was panting, she felt her strength draining and she felt as if she could take no more. Her sword dropped for a single moment, then suddenly she felt something hit her, it stung. She fell to the ground, dropping her sword as she did.
Sanga had watched the duel until he could see Cogg was gaining the upper paw. Then he had had enough went for Caspian. Yet he had not interfered himself because he sensed that this was something Mozart and her siblings had to finish themselves.
Caspian came running up right when Cogg’s sword hit against Mozart’s chest, slicing clean through her chainmail. He saw his sister fall to the ground.
Cogg raised his sword for the kill…
“NO!” Caspian made a running start and jumped upward, hitting Cogg’s sword paw and knocking the weapon away from him.
Caspian yanked off his sister’s torn chainmail and began to franticly lick her face. Then suddenly, a huge paw slammed into Caspian’s back, causing him to fall and crumple. Cogg grinned as he stood over the helpless figures.
“Now you both die!”
