What are your fears about VODT?

"I checked on imdb.com and they listed the same writers for Dawn Treader as for the previous 2 films, but I SWEAR that there are different writers for Dawn Treader. Ugh."

Aravis, imdb is just like wikipedia. It is dependent on others to make changes. The imdb people who create the main boards for each movie do not always have the right info or make changes in a timely manner. They still have Peter Dinklage in the credits as rumored to be Trumpkin when we know he won't be there. They also have Liam Neeson as "rumored" to be the voice of Aslan.

For up-to-the-date news about Narnia movies, see narniafans or narniaweb. They are vastly more reliable than imdb or wiki.

"But I really AM almost certain that they WILL contradict Aslan's true Biblical identity in the ending."

Copper, I'm still hoping Aslan says my name :D "I am known in your world as MrBob from The Dancing Lawn at narniafans.com. Please visit their website--um, that is in about 60 years. Sory, I forgot that you three don't come from the world of computers."

But seriously, what am I most concerned about? Well, everything. I always go into a movie like this that is based on a book that I enjoyed with a bit of trepidation that the filmmakers are going to somehow mess up some aspect of the story. In PC, that was the spirit of the story. The past two HP movies, it was removing too much of the story.

Now I won't mind if they increase the action at each island. The partial scene I saw where Eustace smacked the other guy (Gumpas? Pug?) with the oar seemed fine. It will be intersting to see how that whole plot takes place. I didn't see RD, so that is very good.

All we can do is hope for the best.

Bob

I hope they get a good Ramandu's Daughter. It's the announcement I've been waiting for!!

Maybe they will make Aslan say that in this world he is known as MrBob.

i guess all we can do is wait and see. i hope they don't turn Ed into what he was in LWW and peter was in PC.

There is still the possibility that Trumpkin will make an appearance at the end, IF they show the wedding of Caspian and RD. (I would imagine that if they do a small wedding scene, in order to kind of set up the next film, they would have a lot of characters from PC; including Cornelius and the centaur; I can't think of his name! )

BK, I hope they get a good RAmandu's Daughter as well; I think I'm mostly excited about that particular announcement. I feel like I was let down with the White Witch; Tilda is a good actress, and she played the part really well, but I felt like she lacked the unearthly beauty that Lewis described her as possessing (I felt like it should've been a gorgeous actress who would make any and every guy attracted to her, like Liv Tyler. I don't know of one guy who doens't think that she is at least pretty.) The reason I mentioned the WW is because I feel like RD contains that same kind of beauty without the underlying evil.

If anyone has seen the most recent pictures of the Dawn Treader (see the Narniafans.com news section), they made the ship with TWO masts already. The book clearly said that the ship had only one mast and one large purple sail. Now that is not so bad a change but if they did that, what other stupid changes would they do to the story? See my fears?

Actually, two masts on the ship do mess up the story, at least the part of the Sea Serpent when it's trying to coil up and smash the ship. It only smashes part of the stern. With two masts it will be difficult to do that, so I know they will probably leave the sea serpent out of the movie. Now you begin to understand my fears?

Two masts? Oh no!!! The story is destroyed entirely!!

Come on. When I read VDT I thought, "One mast? Please, Caspian expects a one-mast boat to get through unspeakable challenges and dangers in getting to the end of the world? Um, no?"

Very good change; I commend the designer.

As for Ed being who he was in the LWW movie... wasn't he also already like that in the book?

Actually, many ships, especailly ones like the Dawn Treader would have a second mast mostly to support the weight of the sail upon the first one. It also makes it appear less like a theme park ride. And that mast is small enough that the serpent could still wrap istelf around.

Okay, I honestly don't see how putting in two masts will make it difficult for the Sea Serpent to destroy part of the stern...I mean, isn't the stern in the back of the ship? The way the back of the ship is designed, it looks like it will be fairly easy for the Serpent to wrap itself around it....or whatever he tears off. And,I think that you're overreacting just a little. It's just a ship, and who has said that it's an actual MAST? Could it just in fact be a support pole, or something that the camera needs in order to get angles above the ship? It could be a rigging pole (where they will hoist the camera up on top to get a view of the ship/crew from above.) We really don't know what it is, just what it looks like.

Two masts, one mast, it doesn't matter that much to me. Much more important is the story.

Truman, sfl was saying he hopes they do not turn Ed into a brat like he was in LWW and how Peter was in PC. I agree. I really liked Edmund the most in this book. Both him and Lucy. I always felt they were at their most regal in this chronicle.

MrBob

Again Truman, you only look at the Narnia stories as entertainment. Of course I thought about the one mast boat in the high seas. It's kind of silly. However, if Lewis had intended pure entertainment (as some recent fantasy tales are now) he would probably have put in a man-o-war with an escort of destroyers and other naval vessels. After all, none other than the King who delivered Narnia was there. However, the Narnia stories are deeper than just pure entertainment so the one-mast ship actually makes more sense.

Have you seen the pictures?

It looks like everyone has forgotten that in the BBC Dawntreader the ship was depicted as a two master and no oars.
That was due to them taking an existing sailing vessel and redressing it to look like the Dawntreader and it didn`t affect the story that much as I recall.

I`ve always thought that the ship had something of a viking longship about her, those vessels had a single square sail, oars and were perfectly seaworthy.
The one thing that worried me though was Lewis putting SQUARE windows in a cabin close to or below the waterline. That would be a weak point in the hull and would leak like nobodys business!
No wonder Eustace was miserable.

As Copperfox said, two masts could be the worst thing that happens to the story (and if you recall, LWW was fairly close to the book, even with a few changes; it didn't change the essence of the story.) But personally, I think worrying over an extra mast is a little silly. ;) And yes, I have seen the pictures several times. And the way it looks to me, the Sea Serpent will have little trouble tearing off part of the stern. But then again, I'm no expert on such things.

Yah, the 2 masts doesn't matter. The ship looks wicked cool. With the special effects they can do, the serpent could spring up between the two masts or behind the last one. It will be great. I am not worried in the least about that.

Changes like that are fine with me, and letting each encounter be more exciting, too, that's fine with me. I just don't want the themes of the story polluted, or the characters distorted like Peter was in PC.

Yeah the boat looks AMAZING! like wow! stuff like that doesn't bother me. and like you said i didn't like how peter acted in the second movie.......it REALLY bugged me!

I am still in awe over how big the ship is. Reading the book, you get the sense that it's kind of small, but it's huge now. Not that I mind that, I think it's awesome...but the amount of money they must have put into that.
