What are your fears about VODT?

Do you think the writers went into our silly ideas thread and figured out the swords issue from there? Maybe it has something to do with the Reepinator? :D

But my question is why would even Telmarine swords have any special properties?

"Could it be that the sword gathering in and of itself doesn't destroy the dark island, but rather Aslan sends them on a mission to conquer maybe personal obstacles?"

Aravis, people who watched PC were upset that Aslan ignored Narnia for a thousand years before coming back only after Lucy went after him. Aslan was a literal deus ex machina in PC, which didn't fly with some fans. How do you think people will view it if they just make the sword mission a non-issue to fixing Narnia again?

If they have Reepicheep come out as a Reepinator I'll definitely go to the midnight show!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D

Or it may be a suggestion to wait for the results of the rabies tests before you put down the dog. Trailers may give some suggestion of a movie's contents, but they cannot provide certainty about plot details. They can they discourage you from seeing a movie, but they cannot provide you with a strong platform from which to condemn the movie until you have actually viewed it. I will see the movie, and then decide whether the filmmakers have gone overboard. Michael Apted and Andrew Adamson are two different people, and I want to respect that difference until I see a well-proven reason to think otherwise.

This would actually make sense if the dog was too cute and was making puppy eyes at you. But if the dog is acting vicious and foaming at the mouth, you'll want to stay as far away from it as you can. And if you get bitten, you DON'T want to wait for the results of the test BEFORE getting the rabies shot or doing something with the dog!!!!!!

Sorry, but the trailer already has lots of plot details, and I am not interested in seeing the movie as it's presented there. To me, this trailer is like that vicious dog foaming at the mouth. I'm staying as far away as I can.

Frankly that doesn't make much sense.

I hope that Apted and the script writers have enough sense to make sure those are Narnian swords that are needed -- that somehow these 7 lords came into possession of special swords to Narnia, maybe treasures the Pevensies had kept at Cair Paravel?

Here's a new fear: That people in this forum are so put off by those of us who don't approve of the new movie that they begin creating threads where they intend to banish us from because our views.

Nevah!!!!

Mikey you are welcome in any old thread, any old time. I posted over in the pledge thread that even people who aren't taking the pledge can come over and tell us why they're not. I understand you in this issue, completely. :)

I think I could say the same thing when there's a thread intended for positive views and it becomes hijacked by negative views...I could mention some but I won't.

Oh, I just noticed on the new poster that was released that the dragon looks like a cartoonish figure. From the trailer, the dragon looked great, but I'm hoping that the poster image was just a bad picture...otherwise, I may laugh out loud at Eustace as a dragon.

becuase alot of people these days a effected so much by people opition of movies they change thier mind suddenly to relfect what the other people is thinking..

so rather than saying what they really feel eg. "i want to see VoDT on the midnight screening"

they will be like: "i dont want to see it at all becuase it sucks" (even though they have never seen it)

see?

people are presuted easily by peoples bias opitions....

That's true to a point, but also, a lot of times you have to realize that most of the critics will be extremely harsh on Narnia simply because it's a fantasy story. Rotten Tomatoes I think is one of the worst. They probably gave a good rating for Epic Movie, which really defiled Narnia.

It's like politics: people don't always take the time or the effort to look into the facts. They listen to popular opinion only and they let that decide how they think. I remember all the hoopla around the leaked script of At World's End; the writers of the movie came out and said, "oh, don't worry; the movie won't be anything like that", but I saw the movie not long after, and it was almost exactly the same as that leaked script. People listened to the writers' declaration, and ended up being disappointed (at least, those fans including myself who hate what they did to the characters of Will and Elizabeth). So, some people will read the reviews, or the blogs, and they'll go see the movie regardless. Others will say "well, that proves me right" and won't bother to see it for themselves. Still others will say "looks like a waste of time and money" and they won't want to see it, or even view it on dvd.

(Rotten Tomatoes gave Epic Movie a 2% rating, with 61 rotten and 1 fresh rating.)

But we aren't obligated to like movies or to give them a chance. Frankly, with the prices they're charging at theaters now (says the extremely broke college student) I think it's entirely reasonable to refuse to pay for a movie on the basis of plot, actors, directors, trailers, reviews, or people talking on a forum.

Exactly. They make the trailer for the sole purpose of giving the public a taste of what the movie will be about and its up to anyone to decide whether its worth watching or not. Even if a scene from the trailer isn't in the movie at all. We're given enough to know what its about. Everyone knows what I think about it and IMO, its a well based assessment for what the trailers gave us.

The only reason I'm not trusting the trailers/posters is because they are dileberatly misleading.

Showing the White Witch as the main villain and making it seem like Peter and Susan return to Narnia is such misleading and dirty advertizing. We know she'll only be on Dark Island and that Peter and Susan don't really return and have small cameos, yet the trailer want to trick the general audience.

Exactly! That's what I've been saying all along. And that is why I made the decision not to watch or support VODT.

Rotten Tomatoes aside, most everybody else seemed to give the movie a favorable rating....and it was accepted. Why weren't people more up in arms over a movie making fun of Narnia instead of complaining about changes like these??? I mean, if somebody can give me the answer to that one and it make some sense, then I'll take back everything I've ever said. But I wont' hold my breath on it happening.

I'm a little concerned about some of the spoilers that a new review posted...I don't think Ramandu will be in it at all, which is a shame; I was looking forward to seeing how they would translate his character.

Well actually, I didn't see epic movie. Did you? I saw the previews and they were bad indeed. Ok so your question essentially is this. "Why weren't poepl up in arms over Epic Movie instead of making a fuss over the changes in the narnia film.

To answer your question. In two points that is... First. Epic Movie never claimed to be based off the book. It didn't have Based on the Classic Novel by C.S.Lewis on the commercials. And to me thats a difference. The reason why no one had debates and arguments over epic movie was because everyone here probably were on the same page about it.

Second...Major difference is that this film IS associated with C.S.Lewis and his actual work. This movie VoTDT is a movie that I expected to be upheld by the book's plot and dignity. I expected something that stayed close to the book like LWW did. I liked the book. Hey, I loved the book and as far as I'm concerned it was well written AS IS. No plot changes needed:cool:.

Well there it is. My opinion and your answer. If anyone else wants to try to answer AK's question that'd be great. And I don't expect you to hold up your end of the deal. I think you never had any intentions of doing so. I'm guessing you don't consider this as 'making sense' therefore it doesn't qualify. I'd rather not argue AK and I wish you weren't so frustrated at the people who are disappointed with the trailers on this film. I feel like the Narnia fans are being divided like denominations on this matter. LOL I doubt the sides will change much when the movie is finally viewed by each side of this debate anyways.

I saw the first two-thirds or so of Epic Movie, actually. I didn't think it was very good, although that wasn't because it made fun of Narnia; it just wasn't a very good parody (which is a pity, because epic fantasy movies are just begging for a good parody!).

That said, why would we be up in arms about a parody to start with? People are free to make fun of Narnia, nicely or mean-spiritedly; they are free to misinterpret it or decide that the series is silly or preachy or juvenile or anything else. I don't think they have an obligation--like Largo says--to represent the book as the Narnia movies do. In fact, as a parody, it pretty much has an obligation not to be faithful. But the movies are pulling us in on the promise of bringing these books to life, and I think it would be entirely fair to evaluate them on their trailers and make a decision based on that trailer.
