As soon as there were even words uttered aloud about playing Kate's violin, an odd thing happened. Branches on the nearest trees actually flexed and moved, independently of wind. All these branches stretched themselves toward where Kate stood holding the fateful instrument. Somehow this phenomenon did not seem threatening; rather, it felt as if the trees were HOPING for something.

Kate took the violin in her hands, tuned it carefully, and then hesitated. She had never played in front of so many people before. Then, she took a deep breath, and started to play.

OOC: Dayhawk, if you plan to return here, your three characters should be able to hear the violin from a distance; and Meridian (she's the phasing one, right?) should be able to sense that its music even reverberates on the ethereal plane.

Having never heard of this instriment nor its sound, Verra found her playing beautiful. She was cascaded back to her world of Thema, with her brothers Nye and Finn as well as her cousin Wess. How she missed them.

The tune that Kate had picked to play at that moment was very light and happy, and it seemed almost as if the music itself were dancing through the air.

Some of the natives, in fact, began to dance to the violin's tune, as if the tune were--not forcing, but guiding--them to dance perfectly with it.

And the trees which had already reacted to the violin's very presence, now began to sway with the music....and their leaves turned a richer, healthier green.

A small patch of bright wildflowers sprang up around the little girl's feet and the brown, dead grass perked up and began turning green. Kate had closed her eyes when she had started to play, and so she had not noticed any of what was happening as a result of her playing.

Suddenly, Vissarion's head snapped up. "Look out!" he shouted. "Someone DOESN'T like the music!"

One of the hideous tentacled creatures which had stalked the castle of mystery now appeared in the open air near Kate, its tentacles reaching for her. But the closest tentacles to the intended victim were disabled by an expert swordstroke which avoided striking either Kate or the violin. Vissarion then heaved the bulk of his nearly
300-pound body against the monster, slowing its advance a bit even as he rammed his pickaxe into its jaws.

Darron was the first other person to react. He yanked Kate away from the monster as Vissarion was fighting it. Pyralia {she was created, so I assume her to be here} drew her own sword and helped Vissarion to dispatch the monster. But another monster appeared the very instant the first one died; and now transparent images of others could be seen hovering in the air--awaiting their turn.

"Lady Jade!" roared the swordsman as he and Pyralia took on the next demon-thing. "Come test your weapon!"

With near glee, Meridia took the weapon from Jade's hand and ran towards it. The Monster tried to hit her with all its might but she phased though his attempt. Jumping high enough to hit its head, Meridia shot the creature in the face. When it hit the ground a yellow mist spreaded around it. She motioned for the others to get away, not because this mist was poisoness to them, but because the other monsters were heading toward them, towards the mist.

"We want them to catch it," she told them.

And when inhaled it, not knowing what it had been, they began to feel sick. Many of them retreated and the two that stayed were not lucky in their deaths as their comrad.

Veragoe baled her hands together, forming ionized gas from the skin of her palms and when the two monsters were coming toward Kate she realeased the ball and let it blast the two monsters. The damage was too messy to reconize them as they once were.

"Do you expect that stuff to spread in the ethereal plane and kill the others?" asked Vissarion.

Jade came over, "Yeah, it should. It wiped out the Dreden colony, it should wipe them out too."

"The Dreden colony was a colony of lizard-humanoids from beyound our galaxy," Verra explained, "we, the Legion, had nothing to do with it, but it was a terrorist attack from someone of the Legion. Wiped every last Dreden to extinction."

"But dont worry," Meridia said, "It wont harm us. We aren't seseptible to it like they are."

so...everyone defeated the monsters
and returned back to their normal lives
and Jade got to hit Ivan one time before they left
muh ha ha ha
:Dd

The mystery castle turned out to have been built by an unemployed super-alien from the Star Trek universe, who had found the TV market as overcrowded with omnipotent space aliens as the online-roleplay market was glutted with invincible teenage girls. But the one nice phasing creature was able to bring in some tourist income for the natives by remodelling the now-safe castle as a funhouse.
