Press Release: Carrie Underwood Co-Writes and Records End Title Song for Dawn Treader

Here’s the press release for the Carrie Underwood song that has been causing quite a lot of news lately. I had suspected that this song would be recorded by different artists in different markets, and I was correct. In what sounds to me like an industry first, the song is being recorded by international artists for other countries around the world! Joe McElderry has recorded the song for the UK, and Swedish boy-band E.M.D. has recorded it for Sweden.

Here’s the press release, after the break.

Multi-platinum selling recording artist, songwriter, and 5-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood has recorded the end title song, “There’s a Place for Us,” for the holiday motion picture event THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER in theaters December 10th.

Underwood agreed to co-write (with David Hodges and Hillary Lindsey) and record the song, produced by her famed, multi-platinum producer Mark Bright, after the filmmakers screened for them a rough cut of the picture.

Underwood commented: “I’m a big fan of the ‘Narnia’ books and films, so I was really excited about seeing this new movie and writing and performing a song for it. I was blown away by the film, and I think people are going to be really excited when they see it. It’s the perfect holiday film.

“THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER presents an imaginative world that’s also relatable because it’s easy to connect the characters and themes to our own lives,” Underwood continues. “The land of Narnia represents a place where the young heroes truly belong. That inspired me to get together with David and Hillary and write ‘There’s a Place for Us,’ which says that for everybody, there’s a place where you’re powerful and where you belong. The movie and song are about finding that place where you fit in.”

“There’s a Place for Us” will receive major broadcast and online debuts this month, and will be available for purchase exclusively at iTunes on November 16th.

International cover versions of Underwood’s song will be recorded overseas in a small number of select countries, broadening the impact of this worldwide release.

Return to the hope and wonder of C.S. Lewis’ beloved world – via the fantastic Narnian ship, the Dawn Treader, in THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER. In this holiday motion picture event, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace, are swallowed into a painting and on to the magnificent ship the Dawn Treader. They join King Caspian and a warrior mouse named Reepicheep for a mission on which rests the fate of Narnia itself. The courageous voyagers overcome their greatest temptations, as they travel to mysterious islands and a pool that turns anything it touches into gold; have fateful confrontations with magical creatures and sinister enemies; and reunite with their friend and protector, the “Great Lion” Aslan.

  1. I guess I’m the only one that’s disgusted with the fact that Carrie Underwood is singing at the end of a Narnia movie. Oren Lavie was awesome. Switchfoot was perfect. Regina Spektor was excellent. Imogen Heap was so beautiful. Pretty much all of the songs at the end of the Disney films were amazing. But Fox chooses some annoying country star? That annoys me. And the lyrics to her song are embarrassingly stupid. “We can be the kings and queens if we believe?” Please no. Well, to each their own I guess.

  2. I will listen to this song with an open heart and mind. Back when I heard Switchfoot was recording a song for Prince Caspian I was skpetical. My only experience with them had been with more of their “hard edge” stuff.

But then I heard the song for itself. I was impressed. It fit the series perfectly. It became a new favorite.

  3. I think it will be okay. Country’s not my favorite music, but Carrie is a cross over artist. I say give it a chance.

  4. I don’t know. I heard the song by the Sweden people. It was *really* lame and too much of a ‘believe in yourself’. Believe what about yourself? You can do anything. Only God (and for the Narnia characters Aslan) can do ANYTHING for you. Look at Eustace. He couldn’t shed his skins 🙂 It’s just corny sounding. But at least she was a fan of the books! 🙂 Please! Get Enya to do the next one! You’d have people in heaven then! She did LotR. I’d LOVE for her to do Narnia! 🙂

    • ya I hate ‘believe in yourself’ stuff! I totally agree 100% with you! ENYA WOULD BE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      35DAYS!!!!

  5. Yeah, I agree with everyone here. Hopefully I’m wrong about the song. I really don’t want the movie to end on a corny note. Also, “believing in yourself” is not true to the theme of the book series. Hopefully that’s not how the song comes across.
