Has The Magician’s Nephew been Greenlit?

Got an interesting e-mail this afternoon.  There’s a report saying that The Magician’s Nephew has just been given the greenlight.

It comes from a newspaper reporter in Colorado Springs.  I’ll e-mail some folks and try to figure out if it is official or not.  Here’s what the article says:

Regarding [The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader], despite rumors that the franchise was so toxic that Walt Disney Pictures happily passed the film to 20th Century Fox — and would be discontinued thereafter — a sequel has been greenlit. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen: Get your camping tents ready for the release of The Magician’s Nephew.

  3. Oh I hope so. Then we know what year to look at with anticipation and finally exclaim to my cousin that are continuing. She didn’t believe they should because of her opinion on VDT.

  5. my brother is a Narnia fan too but I havent mentioned anything at all to him about a Magicians Nephew film until Im sure its officially green lit.

  6. Pretty quick to put this up. Just sent it less than an hour ago. Do the staff members just sit at their computers all day, waiting for spy reports or something?:P
    To real thoughts on this now. Excited, but not hyped. Remember a few months back when there was a report of Fox/Walden talking about The Silver Chair? Not any more. It’s strange neither Fox or Walden has told us yet, and some article has. Oh well, just keep watching and waiting!

            Have i mentioned I haven’t met one person who goes on narniafans.com that I can actually see?? I think that is weird; that you know there are alot of fans out there ,but yet when you ask somone about narniafans.com, they don’t know what you are talking about…it is just weird.(Just a thought!I guess I just got carried away…..)

    • I have to confess, I’m on my computer a lot too (not specifically for Narnia, but I always have my email and my Google Reader, my primary source of Narnia info, open). =)

  8. I want to believe that they’re continuing, and I’ll be happy if another is made, but I seriously hope that doing MN instead of SC doesn’t backfire.

    Let Andrew Adamson (and Harry Gregson-Williams) return! PLEEEASE!

    • I don’t think that Andrew Adamson would be returning anymore.

      I would be super excited if he does, but there is very less chance for that to happen.

      Getting any new director would also be great!

      • i will CRY if at LEAST Harry Gregson doesn’t come in like a lion (no pun intended ;)) and save the franchise from unNarnian music. no offense people, but David Arnold just isn’t my style.

    • if harry doesnt come back, i think murray gold should do the music. he’s the guy who does the doctor who music, but of course i would suggest him, i’m a whovian!!! 😀

  12. Woah! I am too excited for this. Will spread the news once we have an official announcement for that. But i have questions regarding this.

    What should be the release date for the movie??

    And will it really do well in box office??

    I’m just asking this only because i think that people think narnia has lost its magic. They don’t find it more interesting.

All the same, I’m happy watching the Narnia trilogy over my Easter holiday break including the extra disks of 2 pack special editions which are all good (although VODT’s abit shorter, although i really like anything that adds to the backdrop of the Narnia chronicles & individual stories of films and VODT has great ones of those too).

  26. actally i like da idea of mn instead of sc becase ppl who saw lww will probly want to see this and if dey did sc 1st the dey would hve to do mn and hb before lb wich would leave a huge gap from sc to lb so there would be a bigger age differnce for will than there would if dey did mn,sc,hb,lb

  28. but da movie i worry about is hb because movies in the same genre as it dont do very well and its not as exciting as da other books,what i was tinking was dey do it after lb

    • That almost certainly wouldn’t work. And actually, HB is much more “exciting” than SC or MN.

  29. Will poulter will be not too old . If the movie (narnia 5: silver chair) fate in 2015 he will be then 22 years old as peter in narnia 2 . thus it will be good and there are the special effects who will make him) smaller. But well the nephew of the magician will be the best!

  30. Harry potter is finished and biblot the hobbit is the only saga in sight which can “kill” narnia .Il is enough not to make him go out during this period. I would like for maximum March, 2013.

  32. This is wonderful if it is true. It seems very un-official to me, like the reporter mistook something for a firm announcement. I’ll be looking forward to confirmation.

  33. I wish they would film both MN and SC at the same time, then release SC first then MN the next year. But better one than none.

    • That would be a good idea doing them back to back, but they are not connected enough to do it. POTC got DMC and AWE done back to back, but then the story was still continued till the next. LOTR was done back to back, but it was one big story that was in three separate parts. MN and SC don’t connect with a similar storyline. MN is about the beginning and SC is about saving Caspian’s son. However if they were to do a back to back it should be SC and LB. Release SC after MN and then do HAHB and then release LB a year after. Then we don’t have to worry about Will Poulter getting too old for LB.

      • I kinda think HAHB needs to be done last. There’s no other time to do it that won’t conflict with the other movies and the actors ages. I think MN should come after SC, maybe a year, then LB. Then after that do HAHB. They could even show the Beginning of HAHB at the “new narnia” where they meet the two kids from HAHB and they tell them their story. Only problem with that is people might get mad at not being able to watch their DVD’s in order 😛

        • I felt like LB should be last because it is the last one and it is like the grand finally. Besides HAHB characters will have to be in LB as well at the end. Oh well, we’re just going to have to find out.

  35. Maybe they should have a better director who can understand the current franchise problem. I know they will bring back Apted for MN. But i think it would be better if they bring someone else to direct.

    For Prince Caspian film, just after Peter/Miraz duel and when the catapults first start slinging rocks, click the chapter button and you get an almost seamless cut to Lucy finding Aslan. Then the rest of whole mood/ending just continues to flow with loads of momentum, and even when cutting back to battle it fits with where you leaved time wise & catapult shots, giving an entire ending flow as like other other two films and it’s just a BIG difference.

    I like all the Narnia films, but PC is all time magic film, & excited at what a cool diff. this made to end:)

    • VODT style goes well after a PC watch too, they both compliment each other, as great as PC is, wouldn’t want another one just after.

    • Wonderful idea!!!!! It just probably won’t happen. Most people these days just look at the cost of things.

    • I totally agree with that because VDT made very less box office numbers. I don’t think that they would be able to handle two movies at a time!!

  42. The magician ‘s nephew will walk great well. If he make no too big budget. They have to stay on a budget of 150.000.000 and he) will make 550.000.000 minimum!

    Of course, Wikipedia is never 100% reliable. But I rather have him direct the movie. Michael Apted SHOULD NOT be allowed to do another Narnia film. He and many of the script writers do not care nor love the books like we do. Andrew does. But I think that as long someone else does the movie, it will have to be better than VDT.

    • Yeah, Wikipedia is completely unreliable. As much as I want Adamson back, this is not in anyway confirmed. In fact, it’s not even a rumor.

  48. I just finished reading the Books 1-7, finished Book 7: The Last Battle today. I can’t wait to see Chronicles of Narnia on screen again! I truly adore the books, looking forward for the movie and how they will give justice to it! 🙂

  50. Well, puddlecheep, Apted will most certainly not direct as he has passed away…I for one think he dod a great job with VDT…
