Denise Gough Reunites with Beatrice Campbell on the Cast of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

In a warmly lit, intimate close-up from 'The Stolen Girl,' Denise Gough and Beatrice Campbell press their foreheads together in a tender moment between mother and daughter.

Irish actress Denise Gough is the latest confirmed cast to join Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew alongside Carey Mulligan as Digory’s mother. The production is now filming in London and will be scored by Mark Ronson who is the son-in-law of rumored cast member Meryl Streep. In the film Beatrice Campbell is playing Polly Plummer and this casting marks the second time Denise Gough and Beatrice Campbell have been cast together previously in the Freeform TV series (for MATURE audiences) The Stolen Girl which is now streaming on hulu. In their last appearance together Denise Gough played mother Elisa Blix whose daughter Lucia Blix (played by Beatrice Campbell) was stolen.

The news of the Narnia casting was confirmed from Denise Gough on the podcast We’re Not Kidding withMehdi & Friends at 44:21 into the episode titled EXCLUSIVE: Israel is ‘Gaslighting’ Us, Says ‘Andor’ Star After Trip to Occupied West Bank:

I’m doing a film with Greta Gerwig called Narnia. So that’s, I’m playing someone mean in that, but it’s fine, it’s to children, it’s okay.

It is unclear what role Denise Gough may be playing from the book since the villain Jadis will be played by Emma Mackey. Since Uncle Andrew is mean to the children it is possible that Aunt Letty could be depicted as a mean character. No other details about the film were revealed from the podcast.

Please be aware that the full podcast is not for everyone because it contains explicit language and mature themes about the current genocide in Gaza. Throughout this interview Denise Gough’s genuine passion comes across in her advocacy for human rights in Palestine. She connects her experience playing Star Wars ISB supervisor Dedra Meero from Andor directly to today’s real life struggles against fascist dictators. Is Denise Gough right to stand her ground against injustice or should the cast of Narnia keep quiet about politics?
