After Return of the King

"Spare the ring bearer and take me." Astia said bodly.

"You may have me." Arla spoke up.

Bryan waited for Verendiel's answer.

Verendiel-

It did not take Verendiel long to answer, for she knew what she wanted,

"Nay, shall I take anyone in place of the Ring Bearer. For he is the one who brought my Lord Sauron to ruins. And it is he, I must take."

Verendiel smiled to herself. So far Lady Arla and Lord Bryan had been made her prisoners. She had two of the most powerful Elves now in her tight grasp. But the Queen always yearned for more. And she would have this Baggins.

Frodo-

Frodo gazed down at the ground, as if deep in thought. He had a choice to make now. Merry's life was in his hands. And he intended for it not to slip through his fingers easily. He would have to make this sacrifice. Letting his light blue eyes, stare straight into Verendiel's in surrender, Frodo replied,

"I will do as you ask."

Frodo turned back to look at Kasey, but found that meeting her gaze was too painful,

"I am sorry, Kasey. But I must do this.. for Merry. Do not despair.. we'll see each other again. I know we will."

Frodo was quiet a moment then his thoughts drifted to his best friend,

"Say good bye to Sam for me. Will you?"

Merry-

Merry could no longer keep quiet. He could not let Verendiel take three of his friends in place of him.

"Don't do this Frodo! You can't..."

His voice trailed off as Verendiel angerily told him to hush.

Takia stood motion less. Had her sisters future sightings been wrong. Takia finally blurted out. "Wait! Let them go. I'll take their place."

"Takia. How did.." Bryan started to say but she interrupted him.

"What do you really want? If you let all of them go Verendiel..I will be your servant for life. I will do whatever is asked of me. You know I am the daughter of the High King of the elves and that I am the most powerful being here. I can do anything. If you turn all of them loose I am yours to command." She went on.

"Takia, what are you.." Bryan tried to finish but Takia held up her hand to stop him.

Kasey's eyes were full of tears.

Verendiel-

Verendiel stared a moment at Takia. How could she have forgotten about this one? The daughter of the High King was in her presence and she had not seen it. Verendiel's mind had been growing weaker as she had used it continually these past few days to torture the hobbit. But it would soon re-gain it's strengh. No doubt that was true. Looking over the fair Elven Princess for a long while, Verendiel answered coldly,

"I will accept this trade. And you Takia will remain my prisoner of darkness through the endless ages."

Signaling to the Orc's with a gesture of her hand, Verendiel barked,

"Release the others!"

Frodo-

Frodo gazed at Takia and Verendiel, as he felt the fresh bonds quickly removed from his wrists. No trace of them ever being upon his hands could be shown. He was never meant to be Verendiel's prisoner, and neither were Lord Bryan and Lady Arla. Yet Frodo's heart mourned for the Elven girl. Her sacrifice would save them all. If only there was someway he could repay her. It seemed impossible now. As soon as the feeling of freedom was brought on as a reality to Frodo, he quickly turned to Kasey. Tears swam within his eyes. Some of joy and some of sadness. Rushing to her, he pulled her close in a long hug. He had been afraid, he would never feel her in his arms again. But his fears had now quickly been snuffed out, thanks to a brave Elf named Takia.

Verendiel-

Seeing the joy upon the Ring-Bearers face made her sick inside. She hated this look. The murderers of her Sauron should not live in hapiness but in despair. But why should she worry? She now had the High King's daughter and she was much more well off then she had been from the start.

The capture of Merry had truly proved sucsessful for her. That's when she remembered. Merry! He still lay at her feet, with a knife pressed to his throat. She could still complete one final act of her cruelty. Not death. But atleast something that he and all the others could remember her by. Slowly removing her sword from his neck, she turned the backhand of the sword against his head. Striking one final blow, just as he was standing to make his way over to his dear friends. He was immedatly knocked unconsious. If he did not recieve attention soon, he would surely die. But that was nothing Verendiel would ever have to worry about. She delivered him alive and that was her promise. There were no other terms placed upon that. She now said in a loud voice, followed by a swift smile,

"If you want your Merry. You shall have to carry him home."

Mar ran up to himtaking him on her shoulder.
"You think that was funny to kill the hobbit but you where worng,"She told her.

Valderà hiss at her.
" You do not speek to the queen that way now be gone!,"She told her.

Takia willingly walked toward Verendiel. She gave a slight bow to her.

Bryan was horified. "Takia." he called with tears in his eyes.

She turned to face him. "Good bye Bryan. Go now. I'll be fine." she said.

Arla saw Bryan's face and tried to comfort him.

Kasey grabbed Frodo's hand tears still rolling down her face.

"Be safe dear sister. This isn't over yet." Astia mumbled under her breath.

Astia once again saw what was to happen and silently walked back to the cave.

Pippin-

Quickly rushing over to Merry who lay upon Mar's shoulders, Pippin said to him,

"Merry! Merry? It's going to be alright. Your safe. We're going to save you. Please Merry.. hang on. Your daughter needs you. I need you."

Pippin looked back angerily at Verendiel, she already had got what she wanted. Why did she have to do this? Merry had already been through much pain. Hadn't she inflicted enough on the hobbit? His small body could only take so much. Pippin only hoped now, Merry could hold on long enough for Arla to help him.

Eastà was waiting for them playing with a pice of grass.
" Daddy!,"She yelled out,
She ran over to them with treas rolling down her tiny face.

Mar look down at her daughter.
" Your father is all right,"She told her with a weak smile on her face.

Merry-

Merry slowly felt himself rolling from someone shoulders onto the soft grass. Was this all a dream? Though he felt it, nothing seemed real. He still was in quite a daze and not nearly in his head yet. It would be awhile before he could finally open his eyes and realize he was finally free. He was still somewhat unconsious but no longer in pain. The wounds still showed terribly but he could not feel them. He had been healed on the outside but on the inside his mind was in agony. He had seen terrible things while living as a prisoner, and the scars would stay with him for the rest of his life. Never to leave. Life would look much different through his eyes now. He could faintly hear voices but could not make out who they were. He would need much rest to recover from this awful ordeal.

Frodo-
Still tightly grasping Kasey's hand, they both followed the others into the glorious light. Looking down at Merry, Frodo cried inside for his friend. There was no doubt he would of changed somewhat. His ignorance to the pain in the outside world that surrounded him would no longer ring true. Now him and Frodo would have even a bit more in common. Life would no longer just be a party in the Green Dragon. It was a bit more complicated than that.

Arla returned with water. "Here you go." she said.

Bryan sat on a stump looking down at the ground.

Frodo-

Frodo found this to truly be a bittersweet victory. One could not be joyous knowing one had to make a sacrifice for another. Frodo and Kasey sat down in the grass near Bryan, who seemed lost in his own thoughts. Studying the troubled elf a moment, Frodo asked him,

"Is there anything we can do to help Takia?"

Pippin-

Hurrying to kneel beside his dear friend Merry, Pippin said under his breath to him,

"Until you awake Merry, I promise I will not leave your side."

Pippin looked thoughtfully down at him, truly worried about the tortured hobbit.
