Toodles offers the following thought from Confucius: "Without feelings of respect, what is there to distinguish men from beasts?" And, I might ask, if Toodles (a beast) can show respect to you, what is there to distinguish men from plants? Feel respect toward your roommate, and wisdom will descend upon your head.

Also note that Buffalo Bill was human, and Toodles is not. He is not offended by your replays of whatever-you-are-talking-about, and sports as such do not interest him. He prefers considering the moral implications of football obsession while you stare at the television.

Why can't you seem to appreciate having a great moral philosopher room with you? And why are you so confused about Toodles' species?

Toodles is a special case. He is, as you recall, a mad buffalo--not merely a buffalo. Be content--your everlasting companion is a cut above the average beast.

Have you considered the blessings of having a mad buffalo who is dedicated to serving as your conscience? If you spent more time listing your blessings, you would find yourself in a much better frame of mind.

Also, beware lest national prejudice affect your assessment of Toodles. The Swiss are a noble people; so shun xenophobia with all good will. Also, do you not recall that they make excellent cheese?
