Faramir got my vote, because he was amazing in the books. Less so in the movie though. He's willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good of his people and he resists the temptation of the Ring even though his brother can't. I was literally crying the first time I saw the movie and his horse drags him through the gates after getting sent on a suicide mission (by his dad, who I hate. ;) Avidly. heheh, my favorite part of the movie was watching Denethor burn... :D. lol, not really, but still!)
I also loved Aragorn and I liked what they did with him in the movie. (struggling with his destiny and making decisions that he doesn't necessarily want to make) He's always been my fav character (next to Faramir) because of his selflessness and ability to lead. His 'transformation' from a dark and mysterious Ranger to the King of Gondor really was amazing too.
And Legolas was, well, just totally hot. And cool. it's a skill to be able to do both at once, but he manages it. ;):D but I also luv the great friendship between him and Aragorn. And the... *cough, cough*... 'friendship' with Gimli too.

Pippin's always been my favorite. You can't deny he has some pretty constant optimism throughout all the films, despite the wildness of the journey. :D
Plus, he has this unshakable loyalty to Merry---like brothers---and that always made me root for him all the more.
Not many people like Pippin as their favorite, either, so I'm one of the few.:p

They all have strengths, but I must throw my lot in under 'hobbits' as you three of my favorites there - Bilbo, Sam and Merry. Merry is quite different in the book than in the movie, I always loved his character, Sam - well, we know about Sam!... and Bilbo was a one-of-a-kind exceptional fellow whom even the Elves respected. That says something.

I knew Bilbo belonged to your favorites Prim but I never knew Merry was one of them too! Books Merry is one of my favorites too. I like him more in the books than movies.

Sam is how everybody should be. Unselfish, loyal and pure hearted. I only love Sam even more. When my sister saw ROTK she asked about Sam. I told her in the books you already have to love him. There is no way people can dislike Sam ;)

I must admit a fondness for the older Baggins. :p

But yes! I am sorry for anyone whose only exposure to Meriadoc the Magnificent was through the movies - not that Dom didn't turn a fine performance, but the character was certainly less mature and and less well-developed than he should have been.
