She pulled out her home work " Ok cool," she told him, grabbing one of his pens " I don't like Math," she told him with a sigh.

"But you like music, right? Musical scales are a sort of math. Both music and calculation depend on a sense of order and pattern. Of course, they also depend on you not being caught in an AMBUSH HUG!"--and he hugged Chilena to cheer her up, though not nearly as tight a hug as he would be giving her if he hadn't had a cracked rib.

"Yes, I do, sweets, right here." He took it out of his notebook to show her, careful not to let the paper with his clumsy poem emerge with it.

She looked at her book for awhile untill she finely wrote something to down " My daydreamer," she sang while she did her homework.

If Chilena had her brother in mind with the word "daydreamer," the verdict was guilty....

Alipangus Maximus, the most feared gladiator in Rome in the reign of Emperor Nero, had become a Christian at a dangerous time to be a Christian. But his prestige gave him a certain bargaining chip, even with the heartless Emperor. If he, armed with sword, net and trident, could slay a man-eating lion, the Emperor would release all Christian prisoners and become a Christian himself. But if Alipangus failed, the next victim to die after him would be the beautiful and virtuous Kimmicocopufina, daughter of an also-beautiful-and-virtuous Christian lady of Etruria. Now, under God, everything depended on quick reflexes and cold steel....

He killed the lion with one thrust, so that he could turn his attention to Chilena. Kimmicocopufina's lavish displays of gratitude could wait...

"No, you don't have to wait. I told you, I already had the urgent stuff done before you came in. Sing!"

" Yeah, like daydream again," she told him with a sigh" I sing half of it all right," she told him.

My daydreamer he the one I can count one to save me from something
Some times I don't get you, but that's all right.
You are still my crazy brother My hero and my day dreamer.
I wish I could understand your dreams, but some time I really don't

Alipang clapped his hands. "You'd better sing the second half real soon, sweets, so I can give you the second half of this;" then he drew her to him and kissed her.

Still holding her, Alipang told her solemnly: "Well, even before Mom and Dad would let me anywhere near girls otherwise, I had you showing me how sweet they _could_ be, so I knew there at least _might_ be one like you somewhere in the outside world. That made it worth my while daydreaming, made it not seem like an _entirely_ hopeless cause. In other words, Chil-Chil, I'm honored to be your hero, because that makes me the hero of MY original heroine."

"Don't sell Dan short," said Alipang, kissing her hair. "He isn't as tough as I am physically, but he has his own kind of strength; he's had to endure a lot."

Alipang fell silent. He and Chilena probably would not have many more such moments as this in their lifetime. They would move on; life would move on. So he held her tenderly while he could.

She giggled " What was that for?," she asked still following the rhythm of his heart with her fingers like she was betting on her drums.
