Once again, then, Alipang held Chilena close to him for as long as she was in a mood to be held. While doing so, he said to her, "My birth sister Esperanza didn't live to share teenage years with me. But when she looks down on us from Heaven, I'm sure she approves of your work in the sister department."

He held Chilena very very close, resting his cheek against her hair. "Yes, she was--no, she IS. And either of you two is complimented by being compared to the other one. I love Esperanza forever, and I love you forever."

Alipang fell totally silent, still cuddling Chilena. If she cared to fall asleep in his embrace, he would not disturb her; if, instead, she got up and went to her own room for a nap, this had already been a sweet time of loving companionship for them both.

Thank You, God, for sending Chilena to take over for Esperanza--to train me further in how to be gentle and considerate to a female around my own age. Alipang returned to getting ahead on his homework. If his ribcage continued to heal quickly, then after Labor Day he would beg Dad to let him start working again at Pansit Paradise. He had yet to experience even ONE work shift working together with Kim.

Alipang was the first one at her bedside; but Mom, Dad, Melody and Harmony were not far behind. Alipang, who had had his share of Chilena's company, made way for Dad to crouch beside her. "Honey, what's the matter?" Dad asked in his soothingly deep voice.

Mom and Dad ushered Melody and Harmony out of the room, taking them outside to swing on the swingset, leaving Alipang and Chilena the only ones inside the house. Alipang was kneeling on the floor up against the edge of Chilena's bed, with her leaning into him from on top of the bed, their arms firmly around each other.

"I'm very, very much right here, Chil-Chil. What did you dream?"

Alipang didn't feel he should get ON her bed uninvited; but he tightened his embrace as she tightened hers, and punctuated what he said to her with light, gentle kisses between phrases.

"I know you've had cause to think about things like that....after the flip-flop extravaganza the Jakekens put you through....But remember that even if God were to take all of us away from you....He Himself would still be with you, like the Scripture from Proverbs, 'a friend Who stays CLOSER than a brother'....not that I plan to go anyplace....It'll still be years before either of us is ready to marry anyone....and even when we do have our own families....we'll still see each other."

Alipang sensed the pause. "Honey, Chil-Chil, after the soul-baring you and I went through yesterday, there can't be ANY subject remaining that you can't talk to me about." He rubbed his left cheek against her left cheek. "Please tell me what's hiding behind your front teeth."

She closed her eyes " I don't know this so confusing Al in my dream it was dark and one by one you all left me even my birth family," she told him, getting off her bed so she could be next to him " When we had that fight I thought you never wanted me to be your sister ever again," she told him.

Bracing his back against the side of her bed, Alipang hauled her into her permanent reserved seat on his lap. When they had their arms in place around each other again as usual, he said, "Sweets, I never wanted you NOT to be my sister. Let's not talk about that morning, okay? It was NEVER that I stopped loving you even for an instant. I never WILL stop loving you, I never COULD stop loving you."

She laid her head on his chest " I'm glad I was so dumb to do that," she told him, looking down at their hands she pick his finger up and pocked her she shoulder with it.
