Magician's Nephew Speculation

But do you think there will be any mention of Uncle Andrew's fairy god-mother and dust from Atlantis? I don't think it's necessary.

Well Uncle Andrew has that whole long speech right after he gave Polly the ring that includes those. I think they should include at least the dust in some way otherwise people would be very confused as to where the rings came from.

I think they should keep Uncle Andrews explanation because it has some major story and character development. Like how Uncle Andrew is so selfish he wants others to go find things out in potentially dangerous places for him, how Digory ALMOST get caught up with the story even though he tries not to (which is somewhat similar to what happens a couple times later in the book), and like I already said, they have to have some kind of explanation for the rings and what they do.

The dust from Atlantis narrative is important because 1: it explains where the rings came from, 2: it explains Uncle Andrew's connection to magic, and 3: with the idea of Narnia, having a mention of Atlantis (a world or place that some people believe was at one time real), then not only does it provide another sort of fantastical element, it also foreshadows the Wood between the Worlds.

Oh, I never thought of it that way! Good point Aravis!

i think he meant more, will we know that he's the same professor. Which actually some of my friends and I had the idea that they might wind up doing it, like the professor telling the kids (Pevensies Eustace, ect.) about it.

I'm kind of upset that they're making MN before Sc and HHB, because I read them in the order that puts MN second to last, which makes sense to me, because not a lot of what actually happens in MN doesn't seem to come up after LWW or again until LB. and aren't they worried about the kid who plays Eustace getting too old by Sc and LB? (though apparently there's a seven year real world time gap in between Sc and LB?)

and despite my always being a skeptic when it comes to movies based on books, I'll probably still go see it within the first week or two.

I think there are some themes they could really play up - such as Jadis' description of the war with her sister and the use of the Deplorable Word. The scene in the garden with the apple at the end is another fantastic opportunity for some deeper storytelling.

Of course, these will all give Tilda a chance to shine - I can't think of anyone else who would be better for the role. It will also be pretty creepy to see her decked out as a beautiful queen, and not the scary creature that she ultimately becomes...

As dismayed as I was when I heard initially that SC was not going to be next, I've actually really warmed to the idea of having TMN as the fourth film. I think the story lends itself very easily to a movie adaption (VDT, by comparison, would have required a far bolder and more creative director than burnt-out Apted).

Also, it's got the best chance of truly revitalizing the franchise. The old BBC series did SC after VDT and then just lost all momentum. Perhaps there's a cautionary note, there. Maybe SC and LB will work a lot better as movies back-to-back, since they both involve Jill and Eustace.

Finally, although it can be regarded as the final part of the Caspian trilogy, SC happens so long afterwards and barely involves Caspian that it's a loose association at best.

Though I wanted SC next, I am looking forward to MN. I think it could make a really great film...I'm looking forward to the Wood Between the Worlds and Charn...I hope it does well enough to make more films. :)

Well, you can probably tell from my username that The Magician's Nephew is my favorite of the Chronicles. I'm rather wary of a film adaptation of it. Is it sure that Magician's Nephew is going to be made next? I hadn't heard that...
There is so much potential for this story but I thought that Voyage of the Dawn Treader was going to be spectacular as a movie but personally I was greatly disappointed. I think I'm going to start pessimistic this time and not expect much and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

I think a lot of it has to do with the director. I hope they get somebody other than Michael Apted.

The screenwriters are important, too. I think the ones they got for VDT were pretty random, just looking at their past work.

Finally, I think that Gresham and Walden Media know that VDT was not all that it could have been. Wait a year or two and we'll start hearing their real thoughts (I still smile when I hear how critical some of the producers have been of Prince Caspian, when at the time they were pretty excited about it).

No, TMN hasn't been "officially" confirmed yet, but the fact that Walden and Fox are in talks over it leads us to believe that it probably will be the next film.

And like Arvan said, I wonder how they'll film TSC with a 20 yr. old Eustace. Stupid executive heads.

Ok thanks for filling me in. 20 year old Eustace? How will he and Jill be at that awful school if he's 20?

I rather hope that was an exaggeration, but maybe they'd be in college?:p haha.....

I'd like to see the creation of Narnia and the adventures they have in it as a new world. I'd also like to see the destruction of Charn (wow, opposites, eh?:p) and the Wood between the Worlds. I'd like to see the Wood Between the Worlds the most out off all the locations though probably- and I have a very specific way I imagine it so they'd better do a good job at it.

Children grow at a rapid pace, and Will has already changed from the time of filming of VDT. If they are going to make TMN, we can bet that Will Poulter will be at least 20 before they get around to filming TSC, if at all. There was only a year that passed between the events of VDT and the events of TSC; therefore, they'll probably have to re-cast an already exceptional Eustace because of incompetence.

True, but let's follow that train of thought a bit. Even if they did TSC next, they would still probably need to recast Eustace for The Last Battle (even if it was the very next film they did, right?)

So I think recasting Eustace is inevitable - unless they use Will anyway. And why not? If they had to downplay the whole setting of Experiment House as a school for kids and come up with a high school or college or something like that, it wouldn't be the worst change they could introduce.

Besides, Eustace isn't supposed to really know Jill Pole all that well - and at the end of the VDT movie she's coming over to his house to play! So they've already set the stage for a slightly different introduction to TSC...

Am I the only one who thinks that the only film the kids should be older in is Last Battle?

Actually Aravis, it was only a few weeks (maybe about six or so). I would love for them to do SC before MN. It is just better, especially since they left that open at the end of VotDT with Jill at the door.

If they actually do MN, they are almost going to have to have Prof Kirke telling the story of MN to provide a transition. Maybe they can have him telling Lucy and Edmund.
