Musicals!

Annie

[jumpstarting thread again ]

I just took my mother and daughter to see Annie, with Andrea McArdle, the actress who helped originate the role of Annie on Broadway in 1977. Except for this production she played evil Miss Hannigan!!

She's smiling in this photo (she posed for me while signing autographs in the lobby after the performance), but she was appropriately strident and mean in the show.

Question: Have any of you performed in Annie? If so what part(s)?

Wonderful! I've heard some of Annie, but don't exactly know what it's about.

Let's see...*squeals like a girl* 5 DAYS TILL I SEE LES MISERABLES!!!! :D
Sorry, I'm just too excited to calm down lately. Hehe.

Singing Dryad,
Les Miserables is really an amazing experience and has such a deep story. How great you get to see it!

Singing Dryad,
How was Les Mis?

I'm reviving this thread because I just got back from NYC and got to see my son's choir sing as part of a multichoir tribute to Memorial Day in Lincoln Center. While we were there he got to see two shows on Braodway, Memphis and Billy Elliot. I just saw Billy Elliot, and the dancing and staging were spectacular but the language was too strong for me and there were themes that I was not comfortable with. So I did not care for it that much, even though it won some Tonys. My son said Memphis was excellent though.

Have not seen the original stage show, outside of Columbia's gaudy 80s musical film. But I starred in Annie,Jr. in middle school. I played multiple roles including the dog catcher, the Radio Host (unfortunately our script cut the tri-harmony singers!) and a Police officer.

I've never much liked Annie...I saw the 80's movie. The one song I liked was Easy Street. You can't go wrong with Bernadette Peters, Tim Curry, and Carol Burnett!

Also, I recently watched Company in the movie theaters, starting Neil Patrick Harris, and it was amaaaaazing. <3

I recently saw Narnia! -- a musical based on the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It was a student production and played in a church, but it was still fun, especially since I knew some of the cast, including Aslan, Professor Kirke, Father Christmas, and one of the Owls.

I recently saw Seven Brides for Seven Brothers for the second time, and I think I fell in love with it. Such beautiful choreography and numbers! And it's funny. :D

Last Saturday my family and I saw My Fair Lady onstage, it has been years since I have seen that movie, and remembered how much I enjoy it. Especially the scene at the horse races.

Into the Woods

I've not seen the stage show , but that film has to be the strangest mash up of classic Hollywood design, and Post code material (that song about 'Spring' has me both horrified and rolling on the floor in laughter). definitely an over cooked turkey.

My list:
Wicked
My Fair Lady
The Wizard of Oz (1903)
The Wizard of Oz (based on the 1939 MGM film)
Funny Girl (that Ziegfeld gag is worth the price of admission).
Meet Me in Saint Louis
Annie ( though it takes talent not to make it cloying)
Most Disney Musicals (though Mary Poppins wears me thin, and I really can't stand some of the lower tier DACs).

I didn't say I disliked it, I've just been over exposed to it, which can make it rather grating. Got close to doing it to 'Oz' when I say it for the 13th time in 2 months. Good thing that didn't happen... BTW I own the original cast album LP for Mary Poppins AND I only payed 50 cents ^.^

I got to see Jesus Christ Superstar and Camelot in Stratford, Canada. It was awesome! Jesus Christ Superstar was going to Broadway after it closed in Stratford. Then I was in Working last year which I loved. We're doing Meet Me in St. Louis this year which should be fun.
